It seems like every MMA site and their brother has put out a ranking of hottest MMA wives and girlfriends. For this list, we’re more interested in the couples who would kick the most ass together in a street-fight — or in one of those freaky-ass tag-team MMA bouts. #6: BRANDON AND KERRY VERA

Combined MMA record: 13-6
Status: Married since 2006
Tough cred: Brandon’s career skid in the UFC has culminated in three consecutive losses (though that last one might be overturned). On the bright side, his adorable wife Kerry is currently 2-0 as a mixed martial artist following a successful kickboxing career, including a first-round shellacking of Kim Couture in her Strikeforce debut.

#5. JORGE GURGEL AND ZOILA FRAUSTO

Combined MMA record: 23-8
Status: Just married
Tough cred: Like the Veras, the male half of this couple has had a tough go of it lately, losing four of his last five fights; Jorge will have a chance to redeem himself against Tyler Combs on the preliminary card of Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson on March 5th. Meanwhile, Frausto has established herself as one of the greatest female fighters in the world, grabbing Bellator’s 115-pound title and putting an end to Megumi Fujii‘s 22-fight win streak. (She’ll also be returning to action on March 5th, against Karina Hallinan at Bellator 35.) Hopefully that isn’t a problem for Gurgel’s ego.

#4: BRYAN CARAWAY AND MIESHA TATE

Combined MMA record: 26-7
Status: Dating
Tough cred: Gina Carano may be the “face of women’s MMA,” but Miesha Tate is unquestionably the backside of women’s MMA. Riding a five-fight win streak (including an armbar submission over Zoila Frausto last year), Takedown Tate will challenge Marloes Coenen for the Strikeforce 135-pound women’s title in the co-main event of “Feijao vs. Henderson.” [Ed. note: Well, not anymore.] Caraway is a featherweight submission specialist who trains with his girlfriend at Team Alpha Male. He went 0-2 in the WEC last year, but rebounded last weekend with a first-round submission over Marlin Weikel.

#3: JOEY VILLASENOR AND HOLLY HOLM

Joey’s MMA record: 27-8
Holly’s boxing record: 29-1-3
Status: Dating
Tough cred: One of the top pound-for-pound female boxers in the world, Holly Holm will be making her MMA debut on March 4th against 3-1 fighter Christina Domke. Her longtime boyfriend is hard-hitting Team Jackson product “Smokin’” Joey Villasenor who has scored wins over tough opponents like Jorge Santiago, David Loiseau, Phil Baroni, and Evangelista Santos during his 12-year MMA career.

#2: GEGARD MOUSASI AND CINDY DANDOIS

Combined MMA record: 34-4-1
Status: Dating
Tough cred: “Sweet Sassy” is the former Dream middleweight champion and Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion, and current Dream light-heavyweight champ. He hasn’t exactly faced top-shelf competition since losing his Strikeforce belt to King Mo last year, but he plans to return to the promotion in the spring. His foxy Belgian girlfriend comes from a judo background, and somehow managed to defeat Marloes Coenen in her pro MMA debut in January 2009. She sports an overall record of 4-1, and occasionally does gigs as a ring girl.

#1: EVANGELISTA “CYBORG” AND CRISTIANE “CRIS CYBORG” SANTOS

Combined MMA record: 28-15
Status: Married
Tough cred: We shouldn’t have to explain. Cris Cyborg is the Mike Tyson of women’s MMA — a dominant and terrifying champion who overwhelms her opponents with raw power and aggression. Strikeforce simply can’t find 145-pound women who are on her level, which explains why she’s been on the sidelines since last June. And despite her husband’s journeyman record, Evangelista is one of the gamest motherfuckers in MMA history, a prototypical Chute Boxe brawler who’s never been afraid to stand and bang with anybody. Never boring, and always looking to knock your head off your shoulders — that’s the Cyborg way.
