There Will Be Fisticuffs: Houston Alexander Booked to Face Gilbert Yvel in March

(Change our Facebook status to scared shitless.)

Coming off a DQ (illegal strikes) loss to his 16 year old son (too soon?), it has been announced that notorious brawler Houston Alexander has already been booked for another fight, and will be taking on referee aficionado Gilbert Yvel under a regional Nebraska promotion named Resurrection Fighting Alliance on March 30th. The fight will be contested at 205 lbs.

Aside from that unsanctioned bout with his kin, Alexander also recently suffered a second round Falling Tree KO at the elbows of former hockey enforcer Steve Bosse, which snapped a four fight win streak that included wins over UFC veterans Razak Al-Hassan and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

(Admire it, Potato Nation. Admire it like a beautiful April morning.)

Alexander will be taking on fellow UFC washout Gilbert Yvel, who made the drop to light heavyweight in his last bout and scored a first round submission via strikes win over Damian Dantibo. The victory was his first since dropping three straight to Junior Dos Santos, Ben Rothwell, and John Madsen in his short lived UFC run. We managed to find a video of the fight and added it below. Warning: turn down your speakers.

*Checks ear piece* I am being told that the above video is not from Gilbert Yvel’s most recent fight, but is in fact a video of a 2004 fight in which he KO’d a referee. My apologies. HERE is Yvel’s light heavyweight debut.

In retrospect, those two videos were actually quite similar.

Perhaps we’re in the minority here, but we are really looking forward to this one, if only because it is the kind of fight that has a 90% chance of ending via uber violent KO. Who you got for this one, Potato Nation?

I have Ivel in this one. Also, I don't appreciate being mocked in the second comment of this article.

Houston shouldn't have lied to Yvel about sexting on Facebook. Now he's going to have to box him.

QUOTE: "A scheduled PRIDE 33 match in 2007 with Sergei Kharitonov had to be cancelled, when the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) refused to grant Yvel a license to fight in their state, due to his history of poor conduct."
Didn't know the NSAC was in charge of fighters who get rowdy outside of Nevada. Does that mean if a fighter gets a DUI in Canada or Mexico, NSAC will deny their license?

Remember when the world couldn't wait for the epic slugfest that was to be Kimbo Slice vs Houston Alexander? I missed that fight but I bet it was a barnburner!

No, it's not too soon for a 16 year old son boxing joke...Perfectly timed, in fact.
