There’s a Pretty Good Chance You’ll Have to Google the Names From the Second Bracket of ProElite’s HWGP

ProElite today named the participants of the second bracket of its planned heavyweight grand prix and there’s a pretty good chance you won’t recognize the names on the list.

Contrary to popular belief and ads that inferred as much, the tournament will not include former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia. According to the press release sent out by Stratus Media Group, the tournament will be structured similarly to Strikeforce’s Challenger Series in that the “up-and-coming’ winner will earn a shot at an upper-main card slot on a future event.

The promotion announced that Jake Heun (1-1) will take on Ed Carpenter (5-1) and Richard “The Black Eagle” Odoms (5-0) will square off with Rodney Housley (4-1) on the November 5, 2011  Proelite 2: Big Guns event we revealed earlier this month that will be televised live on HD NET from in Moline, Il at at 8:00 pm CST.

The main event for the show sees Arlovski (16-9) take on Travis Fulton (247-48-10 1 NC) while the co-main event has Sylvia (29-7) locking horns with Andreas Kraniotakes (12-4).

DoctorWood – bang on. I love the endearing sense of mystery and sheer “WTF!!” that we all experienced when we first encountered his record and asked “wait, that’s a typo yeah?!”.

I’d like to see him beat Arlovski, get another ‘name’, beat them, and then get called up on short notice to replace someone on a UFC card. He deserves another fight for the organisation on nothing more than graft and perseverance.

Not only is Travis a warrior,he owns the greatest slam in MMA history!! I am sure everyone has seen it at one time or another but check it out anyway!! It is definitely worth watching a few times!!! The fight is on youtube. Travis Fulton vs Jeremy Bullock.

I don’t think Lenoz was bagging on Fulton. It is an amazing record. Holy shit, the guy had more DRAWS than many fighters have total fights! (10, in case you are wondering)

I have done the same thing, Lenoz. That page is incredible. Just keeps going on and on! I hope he fights for 20 more years and keeps on winning! 247 wins and only 6 by decision. Holy shit.

I think it is a good idea to leave the big names out of the tournament, someone else on here pointed out how silly it would be to have Arlovski KO’d in the 1st bracket.

I know Fulton, see him fight and I’ve fought in his Promotion before. He is a great guy who is highly skilled. People dis on his record, but if you wanted to fight every weekend for 10 years not all your guys are going to be top notch. But this is mma, where one lucky punch can drop anyone. Everytime you step into the cage there is a risk. Fulton has heaby hands, and we’ve seen what happens when Arlovski gets touched, again and again. Fulton has been TKO’s a handful of times in like 300 mma fights.
