Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

They Had to Pull James Toney Off of Andrei Arlovski

(You don’t interview James Toney. You merely hold a mic near his face and wait for something confusing and almost terrible to happen.)

It’s been a little over a week since we’ve heard any rumblings from James Toney about his desire to fight in the UFC.  Maybe that means he’s changed his mind and will instead be bringing his formidable side check kick skills to K-1?  Not so fast.  Toney seems to be staying focused on his goals, and recently he told that he knows he can do well in MMA because he once sparred with Andrei Arlovski and, at least to hear Toney tell it, things didn’t go well for our Belarussian friend:

"I sparred with Arlovski before.  It was ugly.  They had to pull me off of him.  They didn’t want to let that go on too long."

This quote doesn’t tell us whether they sparred in boxing or MMA, but we’re going to go ahead and say that it probably wasn’t Toney’s head kicks that floored Arlovski, if you catch our drift.  Arlovski has been looking into a boxing career for some time now, but maybe a beating from Toney made him rethink that.  Of course, maybe it also made Toney start thinking about an MMA career.  ‘Cause hey, Arlovski used to be a UFC champ.  If Toney can beat him up, he can beat up anyone.  Isn’t that right, Brett Rogers?

goddamn, i love internet tough guys. no repercussions, nobody to answer to. so badass, so hardcore - i have nothing. dude, i'm about as white as a person can be and you're managing to offend me. i'm going to sit here in awe, waiting for some more of your wisdom to come puring through. enlighten the rest of us, if you will.

I agree with hulk smash

get toney in there with 1 of the top contenders right away, if dos santos defeats gonzaga i would like to see him put toney in his place

toney is crazy enough though to give this a good shot he will always have a punchers chance and if he wins... well victory for boxing eh?

Sad: Trying to rehabilitate someone on the INTERNET, in a site notorious for jokes from redneck jokesters.

Everyone needs to chill out and take it easy. You are not gonna change the world by nagging at someone because they made a racist comment on some site. Especially here.

BTW: I call both white folks and black folks apes. If you really want to call it racism, then it's equal opportunity racism.

I think UFC Fan works for Hoelzer Reich and is trying to drum up some business.

Also, I'm getting more and more into the idea of the UFC setting up a special league just to beat up old washed up althletes from other sports. I think it'll be called "STFU X-treme Geriatric Kombat."
Hulk Smash- January 13, 2010 at 5:03 pm
black, white, chinese, native american, east indian, from arkansas, whatever - doesn't excuse him from being an idiot. race is about as relevant to this discussion as shoe size, and it's cheap of him to introduce it here. it belittles us all by association, and i'm very happy that the revulsion to his comments was universal. the etiquette is straightforward.
ghostboner- January 13, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Uh, hey guys, what if UFC fan is black? Does that then make all of you racist for berating him? Is he still a worthless cousin fucking racist piece of shit then? I'm not clear on the etiquette there.
Hulk Smash- January 13, 2010 at 4:01 pm
dmonic - by the way, big nog is in his early 30s. dude was born in '76! he just LOOKS older than methuselah.

i stick with my earlier thing that this chump toney face off against a top tier HW fighter. the sooner he gets destroyed, the sooner the whole boxing vs. mma comparison can be done away with.

it's two different animals, kind of like a tiger and a lion. both similar, both big time, both able to kill you, but one will never be mistaken for the other.
Hulk Smash- January 13, 2010 at 3:54 pm
i'll clear this up right now: if we were all sitting in the same room, UFC fan would look like the aftermath of a BJ Penn vs Joe Stevenson fight by now, whether or not he had the balls to make that remark out loud.

that said, it almost looks inevitable that toney will get a shot. let's adjust our thinking to that, and move forward. he's gonna go down faster than a tijuana hooker on welfare check day, so let's celebrate that fact.

i wanna see a major heavyweight like carwin, mir, dos santos, lesnar, etc take him apart. none of this preliminary gatekeeper dogshit - put him in against a top tier mma guy, let him be turned into a prison bitch for a while, then dump him out the back of the ambulance in the middle of the strip in vegas with $50 taped to his forehead. this way, other big mouth boxers will have something to think about when they get the urge to start smack talking.
Mechanicjitsu- January 13, 2010 at 3:10 pm
You've got good stuff to say bro. I like boxing a lot. More so than many other sports. I respect Toney's ability in that area, I just think calling MMA's ground area "fag" stuff makes him ignorant in saying it. But you're right. If the guy wants to get in there, prepared or not, give him a chance. I just wanna see what happens when the "fag" stuff starts poppin off.
Dmonicideals- January 13, 2010 at 2:42 pm

Look at teh comment by UFC fan, then look at the other 15 commenst. How many are racist and ignorant? Just 1. If peopel look at the 1 and ignore the other 15, they didn't want to see anything but ignarance anyways, and had no real interest in giving MMA a chance.

Give the boxer his chance. Let him have a try at GG or even better, someone in his age range: Couture/Coleman/Big Nog. That way he still has a punchers chance, but if it gets to teh ground we will get to see how much "lay" the "fags" really do.

I don't get why some people are so ignorant. Just because it isn't a sport you participate in, that makes it gay? So I guess there must be huge rivalries between baseball, basketball, football, and soccer players? I mean, they are all different sports, requiring different skillsets, so I guess they must all be gay to each other. Hell, even figure skating isn't "gay". If you contest that statement, strap on a pair of ice skates and do a single mid-air 360. And give me a call when you get out of the hospital with your broken pelvis and three shattered vertebrae.

What is it with people having so little respect? Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean you have to disrespect it. I mean, I REALLLLLLLLLY fucking hate BJ Penn, but I show him the respect he deserves as a champion at the highest level of his chosen sport. Name calling and insults just prove you have no real stance but ignorant hate and cannot for a coherent argument.

UFC Fan is a skinhead
Mechanicjitsu- January 13, 2010 at 1:55 pm
Wow. I don't post much here at all but that racial comment by UFC fan is one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. Its shit like that that is giving credibility to MMA being comprised of "racist white guy skinhead types." Statements like that knock this sport back to the days of the guy with one boxing glove. Toney is just an idiot who happens to be black and/or a drug addict. There are more white idiots/crackheads in this country, anyway. Stick to fuckin your cousin and stay away from the keyboard there, UFC fan. Bens, block this guy please.
Terminator- January 13, 2010 at 1:03 pm
1st of all, @ UFC Fan:

We know the internet gave all kinds of little cowards courage, so shut the fuck up.

2nd of all, Dana make this idiot pay. Just put him in there with Big Country or anyone who can lay on him 'like a little fag' and whoop his ass. I will pay $50 to watch Toney tap out.
Kimbos Bread- January 13, 2010 at 12:20 pm
Anybody who calls out his mom and or his uncle into the ring for a fight (0:55) is SUPER Badass.

James is gonna get dropped in the HW division faster than a gorilla on crack. But it will make a lot of money.
ghostboner- January 13, 2010 at 11:30 am
Trashing Arlovski? James Toney you should have not done this thing. No one, I mean NO ONE, lays their hands on Andrei and gets away with it. The only person whose Karma could withstand it so far is Fedor, for obvious reasons. Your luck is headed straight for the pooper my friend. Big mistake.

he has a serious problem with thinking out loud
skeletor- January 13, 2010 at 10:28 am
@831 Father
Give it up you are failing miserably today, and everyday for that matter.

Sadly it's lose lose for MMA if Toney fights anywhere much less the UFC. If he wins it will be a victory for boxing, if he loses who cares he's a washed up boxer. The only one who has anything to gain from this is DW. If he let's Tony fight he won't have to worry about him showing up to his house.
831 Father- January 13, 2010 at 10:08 am
Obviously. It's easier to pull a big, fat dude then lift him off.
GetUpAndKill- January 13, 2010 at 9:57 am
Everyone knows the guy can swing and he's probably crazy enough to make a serious go at this stufff...but the candid interview with DW shows he's had no training whatsoever in MMA and that he's probably untrainable. Maybe give him a few weeks with Bas to start and see what happens.

On the other side of the coin this would be a great opportunity (and gamble) for DW to destroy boxing and the MMA vs. Real Punchers debate.

I dunno, either way, crazy works for MMA.
MMA42- January 13, 2010 at 9:47 am
...I can't think of a comment. I'll let James Toney take this one:

“They talking about ground game? That don’t mean nothing to me dog. Number one, I ain’t going to allow none of them boys to lay on top of me like a lil’ fag, you know what I’m saying? I ain’t going to the ground; that ain’t happening.”
Crap Factory- January 13, 2010 at 9:44 am
I hope DW is smart enough to keep this ass clown away from the UFC (I know, highly unlikely).
ksgbobo- January 13, 2010 at 9:38 am
first...damnit! If it didnt take 5 minutes to freaking post I would have been.
Body Triangle- January 13, 2010 at 9:36 am
I really, really want to see James Toney fight. You know, in the same way I wanted to see Kimbo fight...sure, it's a freakshow, but frankly- a freakshow every now and then, is that so bad?

By the way I've been working on checking side-kicks. no easy feat.
