Thiago Alves Out of UFC 107 With Knee Injury

(It's particularly disappointing because Thiago's face had just returned to normal.)
When it rains, it goddamned pours. The latest big-name UFC fighter to be scratched from an end-of-year card is Thiago Alves, who just went down with a knee injury — most likely a torn posterior cruciate ligament, if you want to get specific. Alves was scheduled to rematch Jon Fitch at UFC 107, and was coming in as a replacement for Ricardo Almeida, who suffered his own knee injury last week. No word yet on how long this will keep Alves sidelined, or if Fitch will be getting a replacement-replacement opponent for the December 12th show in Memphis. Matt Hughes, if there was ever a time to shut AKA's collective mouth, it's now. As it stands, UFC 107's lineup looks like this:
Main Card
B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez (for lightweight championship)
Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo (HW)
Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida (LW)
Paul Buentello vs. Todd Duffee (HW)
Preliminary Card
Alan Belcher vs. Wilson Gouveia (MW)
Matt Wiman vs. Shane Nelson (LW)
Johny Hendricks vs. Ricardo Funch (WW)
Rousimar Palhares vs. Lucio Linhares (MW)
DaMarques Johnson vs. Edgar Garcia (WW)
Kevin Burns vs. T.J. Grant (WW)

The UFC signed Lucio Linhares? figured being an M-1 guy he'd go to Strikeforce. Palhares is a tough first opponent.
fACE7biter Says:
Eh, it was a good enough card without that fight anyway. This is Alves second major injury, not good for such a young fighter. They should add Hughes Vs. Fitch to a later show with a weaker card.

Not much else worth watching IMO.
Jugger Says:
Every time I see this card, the only names that stick out to me are the ones that aren't there: Quinton Jackson vs. Rashad Evans.
MMAMoneyLine Says:
I'm not much of a "name guy" when it comes to watching MMA...I just want to see quality fights. I wasn't too upset to hear about Evans/Jackson being off. This fight cancellation blows though.
I'm looking forward to some serious stand up in the Duffee/Buentello and Belcher/Gouveia fights.
The Florian/Guida scrap will be interesting as well.
I'm also looking forward to seeing if Mir is for real or if he got lucky against an injured and sick Minotauro.

Just throw on a tiger vs. a bear and be done with it.
MIRJITSU Says:
According to bloodyelbow this fight is on and Thiago Alves is fighting.
Shifty Says:
Fitch must be traveling to camps and taking a page out of Tony Harding's book... He fails to realize that it won't help him unless the hired goon attacks the fighter's knee closer to the actual fight.
Catalyst8487 Says:
@Shifty
If he takes out all the other competitors, the UFC has no choice but to put Hughes in the match. AKA will get their way dammit!
Shifty Says:
I think we've uncovered something!
Shifty Says:
There is only one solution to the knee injury plague that is attacking Fitch's opponents... book his next fight against Kyle Maynard!
MyFightWiffaCheeto Says:
Ummmm AmericanTopTeam on the UG just posted a lil while ago that Alves IS FIGHTING.
So it's still as they say, on?
steampunk22 Says:
I still think this card is decent, I'm always curious to see if Mir shows up in shape and in good form, and I want to see if BJ can maintain his dominance after his last strong performance. Not a bad card. Good mix of technical and power fights.

Tiger vs Bear
Mike: You know Joe Fuzzy is coming into this fight with a significant size advantage. You have to think his size will play in a major factor in the early rounds. He's also cause quite a stir by calling his opponent a pussy.
Joe: Yes and he'll be looking for a quick KO. I've talked with Montecore's trainer and he says the size will not be a problem. He says to prepare for this fight Montecore has been training with elephants. So even with the size advantage Fuzzy is still considered a huge underdog.
Mike: That's right Joe, Montecore is also coming off a first round TKO over Roy "Desire" Horn which as we all remember put him in the hospital for several weeks. So we know that this "pussy" has claws.
Joe:.....
Round 1:
Fuzzy comes in swinging wildly and lands a few hard paws on Monte's face, but he circles around out of danger. Fuzzy tries a big overpaw right and Monte moves in gets a nice hold on Fuzzy's neck. Fuzzy goes limp. This fight is over Montecore def. Fuzzy via KO, 1:48 of round 1.
Well that wraps this one up folks. Hope it was good for you. Sorry for wasting your time....Morphine is a hell of a drug. Potato out

LMFAO!!!!

stoked to watch duffee!
831 Son Says:
The Kevin Burns fight should be pretty good. Its probably the best undercard fight besides the Gouveia and Belcher one. I hope Clay's faggot ass loses too. His lay and pray is embarassing to the sport. I also think Diego will beat up BJ, and Mir will get smashed, Duffee will win by KO.
Batlin Says:
I live in Coconut Creek, FL and I run into Thiago Alves all the time around town. Seen him at Walgreens, Cici Pizza, getting gas etc.. Anyway last night I was walking through the parking lot of LA Fitness on my way to workout. He was talking with some guy in the parking lot and showing him scans of an MRI, I walked by only a few feet from them and thought they looked like an elbow, I guess they were his Knee. That really sucks for Thiago, he's a really good guy. I hope he can recover and continue to fight.
Bill C. Says:
Can't wait to see Duffee. And I'm definitely happy to see Palhares back.
WAR SANCHEZ! YES! YES! YES!
