Though UFC Lightweight Champ Frankie Edgar Walks Around at 160 Pounds, He Isn’t Considering a Drop to Featherweight Just Yet

Kevin Garvey from TheGarv.com caught up with Frankie Edgar over the weekend at Lou Neglia’s Ring of Combat and he touched on a number of topics with the UFC lightweight champ.

One of the most interesting tidbits came when “The Garv” asked the New Jersey native if he has ever thought of dropping down to featherweight considering he’s a relatively small 155-pounder. Edgar replied that he would probably have no problem making the 145-pound weight limit as he typically walks around at 160, but his focus is on clearing out the lightweight division right now.

It’s interesting to note that in spite of being smaller than many of his opponents — most notably Sean Sherk, BJ Penn and Gray Maynard – Edgar has been able to use his speed and wrestling to negate any size advantage they may have had.

During the interview “The Answer” also talked about his rubber match with Maynard, the prospect of fighting the WEC and Strikeforce’s best lightweights and how he feels about a potential rematch with sometimes training partner Jim Miller, or any teammate for that matter.

I think Edgar is in an awesome position, because he is the champ at 155, and has a hell of a chance of getting past Maynard based on the last four rounds of their fight. But if he loses, 145 is a bit shallow, and he could move down there and give Aldo a hell of a fight. Aldo is a bad dude, but I wouldn't underestimate Edgar.

Isn't dropping a weight class what you're supposed to try when you can't really hang at your present weight class. "hey there mr. CURRENT Light weight champ, don't you think maybe you should drop down to '45? I mean the competition is pretty tuff at '55, I'm just sayin'."

feather weight division is weak thats why faber got a title shot every other fight, it by no way compares to the dept of the 155 division. now that alot of 155ers are dropping down to 145 with of fear of a pay cut Aldos little party is gonna be cut short
