If you don’t want to sit through 40 minutes of mostly oblivious reporters asking the same old questions that have been asked a hundred times and hearing fighters regurgitate their equally tired responses ad nauseam at yesterday’s UFC 117 pre-fight press conference, check out the above video by Heavy.com that gives you the highlights of the presser in just over seven minutes.
Not surprisingly, the bulk of the clip features Chael Sonnen spinning yarns about how great of a person and fighter he is and how much of a heel Anderson Silva is.
Ironic, isn’t it?
The highlight of the highlight had to be Thiago Alves‘ genuine amusement with Sonnen’s comments, despite Chael referring to "Pitbull’s" native Portugese language as being barely tougher to master than pig Latin.

The reason it's a problem, and the reason we are bitching about it is because as viewers of this site, in general, we are fans of MMA. As fans, it is understandable that we don't like to be shit on by the athletes in the sport we are fans of. So we complain when someone does just that. The reason it is such a problem now is because his last fight was the worst example of this. Make sense?
Saying that Anderson "doesn't fight for the fans" and we just need to "deal with it" is true. So we are dealing with it. We are dealing with it by complaining that he is an asshole who doesn't give a shit about the fans. So deal with it.
p.s. Shields is boring
That being said, this has to be the first press conference I've actually laughed out loud. That Chael motherfucker, is damn funny. I highly doubt he's going to win, but I wouldn't mind seeing him as a 185 gatekeeper or something. "Would that be the one you ran unopposed?", "That would be correct", LOL.
The staredown at the end was classic too, definitely has me pumped up for this UFC event tomorrow night:D Silva by domination.

I'm surprised I'm so sick of the Chael stuff, usually I don't care about what fighters do outside of the ring, I only want to see good fights. I think it's the sound of his voice and the blatant ridiculousness and hypocrisy of his schtick that grinds my gears. I like a good joke as much as everybody else, but sometimes I feel like it's painfully obvious that Chael seems to be the only one unaware that the jokes on him.
You do know that Chael is not in the same division as Alves and Fitch right?
I hope Chael wins just to hear him talk about how Vitor left the UFC years ago just to avoid fighting him. Maybe he can even throw in his theories on how Vitor faked his sister's kidnapping so that he could dodge a fight with Chael.
I want all future press conferences to have Chael Sonnen in them.
He's like a Tito Ortiz that's able to pronounce words. He's a liar and an attention whore (what more do you expect of a politician) and he can fight.
This guy is entertaining the shit out of me. I, for one, hope he beats the living shit out of Silva (and then gets blasted by Belfort in a few months time).
