Tito Ortiz Changes Mind, Will Face Rashad Evans at UFC 133

(A pretty solid metaphor for their respective careers right now.)

With the UFC still in the lurch after Phil Davis’s injury wrecked yet another UFC main event, Tito Ortiz has done the unthinkable — he’s decided to become a team player. After initially refusing to step up as Rashad Evans‘s replacement opponent at UFC 133, Ortiz has now agreed to take the fight, which will come just five weeks after his shock upset of Ryan Bader at UFC 132. Oddly enough, Tito’s change-of-heart came after Lyoto Machida accepted the fight, then lost the opportunity during negotiations. We’ll let Dana White tell the story, via MMAJunkie:

Machida accepted the fight. We knew for a couple days this was going down, and Machida accepted the fight. Then when we called back and said, ‘OK, we’re going to make this fight,’ Machida’s people came back and said, ‘We’ll tell you what. You pay us what you pay Anderson Silva, and we’ll take the fight.’ This was after they had already agreed to take the fight.

I said, ‘Are you [expletive] kidding me? I’ll tell you what. You tell Machida he achieves what [expletive] Anderson Silva has achieved, then maybe he’ll make Anderson Silva money. Have a nice day.’…

Tito turned it down, and then Tito called back and said, ‘Did you get the fight yet?’ I said, ‘Nope.’ He goes, ‘Let me think about it. Let me talk to my team, and I’ll call you back tomorrow.’ This was Tuesday night…

Tito stepped up to the plate. It’s [expletive] weird here. It’s like I’m dealing with a new person. I like it. I like the new Tito. The storyline is what’s so interesting. Tito went from ‘You’re about to be cut,’ to now, if he beats Rashad Evans, he’s back in the mix. He’s back in the picture.”

The early betting lines have Evans as a 5-1 favorite over Ortiz, which seems a little inflated in light of what we just saw Ortiz accomplish earlier this month. Could the Huntington Beach Bad Boy shock the world again? And are you more interested in this rematch than the original Evans vs. Davis main event?

Tito - Dick
Rashad - Pussy
Machida - Asshole

See, there's three kinds of people: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want us to shit all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes, Chuck. And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!

Dana “Rosemary” White shows no respect in the way he deals with the fighters – they’re just goods of his to be sold and bartered. When has HE ever done anything equivalent to Anderson Fuckin Silva? Fuckin Napoleon complex if I ever saw one.
Speaking of which, Machida was a champ recently, knocked out a legend in Silva fashion recently, and is the real reason – along with all the other fighters – that we all watch and love this sport. So who the fuck is Dana again?
Its hard to believe anyone could be this fucking stupid. tell us true, your just trolling like a monster right? you pulled a fast one us all right..right? Its got to be. No one is this fucking far up Machidas ass.

Jesus Christ, i haven't seen a less consistent audience than this in all sports combined. Actually, fuck that! In all things ever debated, pondered upon combined. It didn't take much for you guys to go from Tito haters (like the kind who would hate the ground that this guy's shadow would fall upon) to his biggest fans. The truth is that Tito has only done a marginally smart thing by taking this fight. It was commonsense that he should. When else would he get a chance to be part of main event? Not to mention, if he wins this he goes right up there in the hunt. And whoever was dissing Machida back there, get your head out of Tito's ass, dude. Machida is 10 times the fighter Tito and Brock would ever be.

Maybe it was his 4th fight.. whatever you get the point.
ArmFarmer- July 14, 2011 at 9:49 am
I really wish people would use google or sherdog for confirmation before making their "what did he ever do!?" claims. If you say "what's he ever accomplished!?" and you are talking about a former champion of the most elite organization in the world, it really makes you sound like a tool. Especially when they were a dominant champ, or won the title in their 3rd fight EVER.
blackboxmma- July 14, 2011 at 8:34 am
Tito knows that he can lose this fight and still get another few fights. Its a smart move financially, its a few extra paychecks.

sucks that tito and rashad have to fight each other. but its a good fight for rashad and Tito just gained a shitload of respect from people
dranokills- July 14, 2011 at 6:55 am
Tito steps up. awesome.
The one thing that stands out in this that I like is that all the pressure is on Rashad the dancin machine. He thinks hes gonna get a shot at Jones, but by taking this fight he might be fucking himself ....again.
I hope Tito blows his dreams UP.
Fried Taco- July 14, 2011 at 6:52 am
Tito is making a smart move (kinda surprised), but I believe the next step is to have to withdraw from the fight due to an undisclosed injury suffered during training. That way he still looks good for stepping up, but then doesn't have to go through with the fight and possibly derail his comeback.

Now that Tito's body has detoxed Jenna's diseased pussy juice he may have new life.

Evans destroys Tito! Moving on!

Rex would be our best bet Viva, Rex versus..............?????
Viva Hate- July 14, 2011 at 5:57 am
Good move by Tito, Dana all of sudden likes him least for now. His career is no longer on the line in this fight and he is in possible title contention talk if he wins. Again, again, again I say Tito will be a champion again. Also, a suggestion if CP wants to get back on Dana's good side I suggest either Ben or Mike or Rex step up and take a fight next time a main event if in jeopardy, it works. WAR TITO!

I have tickets for this fight, and shit just got a whole lot more interesting.

P.S. - I will be singing the National Anthem.

i WOULD PAY TO SEE mACHDA FGHT rashard again! I will not pay to see Tito vs Rashard.
Joedirt- July 14, 2011 at 3:45 am
I dislike Rashad more than I dislike Tito... and the odds are way off... styles make fights and last time those two met was a draw AND Tito had a point taken away for holding the fence... in my books that means Tito was winning the fight.
RSparrow- July 14, 2011 at 1:24 am
You know what, fuck this shit. Never thought I'd say it but LETS GO TITO!!!!! Come on, if you're gonna do this shit, balls to the MOTHER FUCKING WALL!!! Fuck it, take this fight and do everything you can to win, all or nothing, I'm gonna back you. Anyone else in? Make fun of me if you want but let's make this shit fun. 5 to 1, I'll throw 50, lets party
fatbellyfrank- July 14, 2011 at 1:08 am

edhedicus- July 14, 2011 at 12:57 am
Exactly, Tito was a dominating champion, Brock was a champion in less than 5 fights, beating all top contenders or ex champs, and both sell a SHITLOAD more PPV than anyone else. Check your history, NOOB!
HateKozJustCuz- July 14, 2011 at 12:32 am
"no matter who wins, the asshole loses"
haha well said my friend, very well said
I was iffy on even buying this PPV with Davis/Evans, but with Ortiz/Evans I'm totally in. And a 5-1 odds I'd take Tito all day- where did anyone see that line at?
ccman- July 14, 2011 at 12:04 am
Machida beat evans. He beat tito. I can't hate on him for wanting to get paid. I can hate having soares make the call though.
