TUF 12 Preview: ‘The Perfect Good Guy vs. The Perfect Bad Boy’

The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck could turn out to be very entertaining, but in general, we’re not expecting any surprises. The coaches already have their roles sorted out, and won’t be straying from them: Georges St. Pierre is the nice-guy champion who doesn’t let his opponents get under his skin, and Josh Koscheck is the trash-talking contender who gave up on being liked a long time ago. At this point, there’s no reason to think St. Pierre won’t dominate Koscheck in December like he did during their first meeting in 2007. But maybe Kos can take a page out of the Chael Sonnen playbook and force you to care about the rematch through the sheer power of his assholishness.

So anyway, here’s the first five minutes of next week’s TUF 12 premiere, courtesy of Spike. Koscheck vows to whip GSP’s fake ass. Dana White is so excited that he’s sweated through his Bruce Lee t-shirt. (Too early for gray, buddy.) It’ll be another "wild card" season — the setup that allowed finalist Kris McCray to fight five times in six weeks last season. Dana pumps up the cast with his usual arsenal of F-bombs. We meet the first two preliminary round fighters. And that’s pretty much it. No word on if any doors are destroyed this season, or if any raw fish is beaten off into. Okay, fine, maybe there will be a few surprises…

@ MoTropolis - I think my generator broke. It just keeps alternating between 'Pitbull' and 'Spider', and occasionally throws out some random Portugeuse words I don't understand.

@ Almost North - No, I had no worries about Hardy whatsoever. I never thought he was even a minor threat. But I really do think Kos poses some possible threats. Hopefully I am way wrong on this.

I agree with Canadian Chronic, agreeing with Dranokills, GSP is in a league of his own atop the WW division. Kosh Jokecheck is going to resort to his first love in the ring come fight time, faking illegal blows and complaining about everything from GSP's cologne choice, to the ring girls openly cheering for St.Pierre.
Who knows maybe Josh's mom might make a ring appearance swinging a high heel shoe at GSP after he loses?
Look for Josh to employ Biting, Fish Hooking, Eye Gouging, Rabbit Punches, Groin Attacks, Throat Strikes, Small Joint Manipulation, Holding the Cage, Spitting, Trash Talking, etc....when he starts losing this fight. I believe nothing is off limits to this puke.
I am looking forward to TUF more this time than many times before as the 155'rs always are full of fight and you know they will make weight no problem. As far as Mr. Capoeira's "Game of Death" outfit?..... makes me wonder if he is the new Jamie Yeger of this season, but we will see. Gimmicks are rarely entertaining for more than 2 minutes with me.

I was surprised more ppl didnt jump on that nick name generator, just for shits and giggles, and share their names here.

Every single time I am forced to look at Dana White, I can't help but think he looks like Uncle Fester from the Adam's Family movies. Every time I am forced to listen to him speak...I want to punch him in the face.

And just for fun.. MMA name generator gave me

The Professor
Santa Claus

" he's sweated through his Bruce Lee t-shirt. (Too early for gray, buddy.) "
That is Bruce Lee's head.... take another look

Were you also worried about Dan Hardy?

If so I would check for the signs of UFC hype syndrome.

UHS (UFCHS) symptoms can include:

Believing Frank Mir is a top ten heavyweight.

Owning a t shirt with a more than 4 skulls on it.

A tendency to take the word of profane bald men with a history of lying.

I think GSP is gonna win, but for some reason I don't have the confidence you guys do. I wish I did. Maybe I'm getting myself worked up for no reason, but I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
DazedNConfused- September 8, 2010 at 7:04 pm
While I wouldn't be dumb to bet on Koscheck winning this fight, I will guarantee he'll be the #2 for a while. He's always going to lose to St. Pierre, but he'll beat everyone else.

I actually don't mind the guy and his shit talking ways. If it was 2 people like Georges then where would the excitement come from?

If anyone at 170lb will beat GSP it will be Koscheck. Everyone else in the division is either a decisive striker, or wrestler. GSP would kill someone whose one dimensional. Kos has greatly improved striking, but when he knows someone will probably knock him out he will throw you on your ass and show you some GnP.

As for this TuF, i'll watch the first episode for sure as it comes after the Fight Night. We'll see after that. I always get excited for these, and then they end up all fuckin' shitty.
Canadian Chronic- September 8, 2010 at 5:49 pm
I'm with Drano on this one,

Kos is gonna talk alot o shit, cuz he wont be able to do much in the cage.

MoTropolis- September 8, 2010 at 5:04 pm
Anyone else notice how many gimmicky mofo's there are popping up on TUF? You got a red mohawk, dan hardy lookalike, another dude with green or blue hair, I cant remember, dudes with designs cut into their fade, afro's and bruce lee suits...shits repetitive...I cant wait to see how many of this guys can actually fight. Its like modern cell phone technology. I have a phone great at doing EVERYTHING, except its primary use, making phone calls.
dranokills- September 8, 2010 at 4:58 pm
you can sugarcoat this fight anyway you want.
oh it's gonna be totally different.
they are different fighters now.
Kos learned from his lose.
Kos is better at wrestling.
Listen anything Kupcake learned or improved on GSP has long since mastered, and in every aspect of every discipline of every art of MMA, GSP has a better grasp of and is head and shoulders above kos and always will.
GSP not only has fraggles number he is just so many steps ahead of him that kos wont be able to do anything.
It will be whatever GSP allows it to be cause josh won't have a say in what pace it comes at him. It's done before it's over.
All we can hope for is fraggle-chek can come up with something really witty, and clever, and biting to say to gsp.
Then prepare for more fake shit than a house full of silicone implants.
"ohhhh my eye! Ohh my knee.....OH MY ASS!"
Almost North- September 8, 2010 at 4:26 pm

What Koscheck does in the cage is fake injuries from glancing blows. So yeah hes a douche.
Roe Jogan- September 8, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Prediction: When it comes to picking teams. Everyone that ends up on Kos' team is going to be bummed out big time. What up and comer fighter in their right mind would want to be on Kos' team over team GSP?
Fried Taco- September 8, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Shit, they have the black dude with the fro from that one Bruce Lee movie!
wifey- September 8, 2010 at 3:00 pm
I think "douche" encompasses all that "heel" does, with some added nuance.

I wonder if this will be flagged as spam as well.
agentsmith- September 8, 2010 at 2:55 pm
Who's the douche at 4:05 in the Bruce Lee "Game of Death" outfit?
SumDumGuy- September 8, 2010 at 2:48 pm
GSP looks big.
MoTropolis- September 8, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Well, it turns out there is a MMA nickname generator online. It gave me 5 nicknames after typing in my first and last name, and here they are in order...

Go Browns
Doggy Nose
Tea Pot
Jabba the Hut

Now the obvious choice here is Tea Pot, although I was hoping for "Spydoor". Come to think of it, I may just combine the first and third suggestion and run with "Go Pot".
MoTropolis- September 8, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Jeez, not another spider there a MMA name generator online somewhere that fighters plug their name into and just commit to the first nickname it spits out regardless how generic it is?
RwilsonR- September 8, 2010 at 2:26 pm
@ fACE7biter - lol at "Jon Fitch being Jon Fitch." That is enough to piss anyone off.

And for some reason I never saw Chael Sonnen playing the heel. In my book, Anderson was the heel. Brock Lesnar has been a heel. Kos has definitely played the heel. But Sonnen just talked a lot of funny shit. I always thought the role of the 'heel' was to shit on the fans and not care what they think. Chael always sounded pretty respectful of the fans, and said he wanted to kick Anderson's ass for being such an asshole to the fans.

I'm getting sick of writing 'heel.' That is a stupid fucking term, anyway. Can't we come up with something better?
RwilsonR- September 8, 2010 at 2:21 pm
I agree with ArmFarmer that there is quite a bit of reason to believe that this fight could play out differently. I don't know that anyone expected GSP to outwrestle Kos in the first match-up, and Kos will be prepared for that now. I think GSP is an amazing wrestler, but if Kos if focused on the wrestling, he is every bit as good or better than GSP at this. Kos is already trying to use his mastery of bluffing to try to talk GSP into standing up, but it is pretty obvious Kos feels that he can outwrestle GSP. If he sticks to that, he may be right. I think GSP will win, but Kos focused on wrestling may be the only threat to GSP in the division. GSP definitely has better stand-up, but can he use it if Kos is focused on putting his ass on the mat? And Kos' inability to take Alves down doesn't really matter to me, because Kos was concussed in the first minute of that fight, and never regained his feet for the remaining 14 minutes.

I still think GSP wins more times than not, but Kos has more of a chace than people are giving him credit for.
fACE7biter- September 8, 2010 at 2:12 pm
I find it funny how many references there are on this site and among fans to what assholes Chael and Koscheck are. When the fans turn into such easily offended twats? All these guys do is talk a little shit, who gives a fuck? It only matters what they do in the cage, nothing else. If you're looking for someone to call an asshole, how about Anderson Silva for not giving a fuck how many people wasted their money to see him dance around? How about Rousimar Palhares for not letting go of submission holds? Or Jon Fitch for being Jon Fitch? The fact that Sonnen talked as much shit as he did toward an jizzbucket like Silva makes him okay in my book.
ArmFarmer- September 8, 2010 at 1:55 pm
Moving on to actually discussing the article.. which is why this section is here believe it or not..

I actually DO think there is reason to believe this fight may go differently. If kos can keep his damn feet on the ground this time he should do much better. I'm pretty sure that almost every time he got taken down by gsp it was because he threw a kick.. and there was the flubbed takedown that gsp reversed him on.

I'm not sure if gsp ever actually just straight took him down, whereas Kos managed to get one nice td on him. GSP did, in one way or another, control kos for the majority of the fight I'm not arguing that, but I could see this one going differently. Gsp will probably be too strong for him, but I saw some things that kos could have done differently the first time. I think he underestimated gsp's wrestilng the first time.

Wow.... A TUF I'm slightly excited about.
