@ XENOPHON only Cage Rage is on tv and it's on a subscription satellite channel..but UFC is broadcast on for Dutch fighters they have a long history of kickboxing... going back to Hoost,Semmy Schilt, Aerts all those guys ..I think Pearson will be a force at 145
Stoomboy- December 6, 2011 at 2:36 pm
Like him or not, Bisping sells PPV's
XENOPHON- December 6, 2011 at 9:20 am
No, I don't have much of an idea about the UK fight scene. Although I do have a favorite from the UK, its Ross Pearson.
Besides him, I watched some online video about a new gym in the UK, it looked allot like some of the better gyms here in the US. I don't remember the name of the video, it might have been released about the time that Hardy was in the spotlight.
I hear you about the lack of living potential due to the lack of available endorsements. The U.S. is a bit a commute with family at home (for those with family), but on the other hand, there are many good (some could say great) fighters out of the Netherlands.
Being that there is better rail service, even Karma is able to leverage and ride the rail to broaden his repertoire. So why not any Brits?
I'll throw out one last one for you to think about. Maybe its nothing, maybe its something. Its about the broadcasting.
In the U.S. there are at least 6 television stations that broad cast MMA events, nearly every night one can find at least one, if not two programs. Even more if one includes the Spanish stations.
How many channels broadcast MMA in the UK?
Dagnut- December 6, 2011 at 8:42 am
@ Xenophon >> first look at how many fighters have come through the ufc from the UK..I would say after US, Brazil and Canada more than any other country..
Secondly...the UFC, and most feeder promotions are mostly based in the break into professional fighting is an extremely difficult thing to do, so for a British fighter it is a much bigger risk to turn professional and make a the US you can make a decent living from a number of promotions..only really cage rage in the uk could support a opportunities for fighters are far saw in the US v UK TUF show the level of talent that is there...the problem is these guys come back home and have life's to live...they aren't training and sparing with the same calibre of fighter week in week out.
Thirdly have you any idea of the UK fight scene?
XENOPHON- December 6, 2011 at 8:05 am
OK UK....I heard you, and you just sent me packing with a course correction to the highlands - to ponder the honest feedback.
True, Brit's enjoy the good match, we get our heritage in fighting on this side of the pond from them directly.
Its no secret that of the fighting disciplines, MMA was exploited (along with Crass and GBH hail also) and took off in the US once it became televised - then spread rapidly.
Sure the sport existed in Brazil and other places, but the winner usually took home at best a "chicken for the pot", and localized recognition.
Since the UK had been adept at fighting since before Drake, Raleigh, and Nelson ruled the seas...
why is it that MMA in the UK had taken forever to ramp up...
instead relying on the Hardy's (who's had one of the best mohawk since Wattie Buchan) or the artificially and carefully orchestrated career as Bisping...
. far out is the first big wave of naturally gifted and highly skilled MMA fighters from the UK (..and Australia while we are at it?

Does Bisping manscape his eyebrows?
iSay- December 6, 2011 at 6:53 am
Do you lot honestly think that Bisping and Hardy are there to draw in UK fans? I can tell you, as a Brit, that I think Bisping is a daft cunt. I don't know anyone that doesn't make fun of his retarded attitude and his stupid voice.

Over here we don't care where someone's from, we just want to see a good fight - we won't blindly follow someone who's shit just because they're from the same country as us.
Dagnut- December 6, 2011 at 2:33 am
None of you has any clue about the MMA scene in the UK..Bisping is not as popular as you think...the fact that he commands so much is he has fought 15 times for the UFC and is a former TUF champ....back in the days when TUF champs got decent contracts...he has also done the ultimate fighter show for them twice..try and get some perspective...he got 300k for that fight with obvious sweeteners for doing the one wants to do that show
KINGMADE- December 6, 2011 at 1:55 am
Some of you guys are retarded, including the writer. I do not like Bisping but if it where not for him and Dan Hardy... the UK would have shit to do with the UFC. That is why he commands so much.
XENOPHON- December 5, 2011 at 11:13 pm
Some of you are finally catching on...
...Bisping is a home grown fighter, he has gotten soft fights, and because if his popularity - and his ability to sell tickets, PPV's, video games, and clothes.
Here in the states he is but a mere smuck, in Canada he is only "liked", but for the Europeans - he is their guiding light to stardom. Especially true, for all the euro Cage Potato members and the youthful wannabe fighters from Liverpool.
bitteralex- December 5, 2011 at 10:09 pm
Jesus... I just realized something... everyone and the grandma calls pit bisping and more often than not he accepts... however these fights never get him closer to a title shot cuz they're never top 10 opponents... I mean miller and Jorge... c'mon who didn't know bisping wasn't going to run over these guys... but here's my revelation... 150k win bonus... fuck fighting silva I'll fight these cans... I'm not saying bisping can beat silva or even deserves a title shot... and I'm a bisping fan... but who's gonna say no to that kind of money? do u know how much insurance costs for a Ferrari?!? if Dana wanted to keep feeding me mid level talent and could live with that... on my yacht...
Ninjanate- December 5, 2011 at 8:47 pm
Bisping is the poor man's Lesnar. He's to he UK as Lesnar was to the WWE fans.
Todd M- December 5, 2011 at 8:45 pm
@ Stoomboy, so what will you be getting your little brother Mikey for Christmas this year?
IronClad- December 5, 2011 at 3:58 pm
Why does Bisping make that much money? Think about boys...he's the gatekeeper to all fans in UK. With out Bisping, DW cannot fully conquer a fanbase across the pond. That to UFC is worth every penny.
TeilaTuliTooth- December 5, 2011 at 3:46 pm
@ Stoomboy - He is overrated when you consider that he is spoken of as a contender.
Bisping is a very lucky man. If you check the records of the people he's beaten in the last 4 years, Akyiama, both Millers, Rivera, Kang, Day and McCarthy, they are all losing records and or out of the UFC.
Meaning that your Pillow-Handed Count has been winning against down and out fighters. He's a middle-of-the-pack UFC guy with some decent technique and no power. A top fighter he is not.
Please put him in against a top guy next. Pleeeeease..
Clyde- December 5, 2011 at 3:35 pm
Revolting sex acts FTW.

And good to see Rampage seems to have given Ariel Helwani a break. Or he's just forgotten who Ariel is.
Stoomboy- December 5, 2011 at 3:18 pm
@NinjaVanish, i dont see how you would think he is overated, 25 wins with only 3 losses to Rashad Evans, Wanderlei Silva and Dan Henderson, he has beat some big names, Leben, Dan Miller, Akiyama, Jorge Rivera and he has only been knocked out once in his career, not bad for someone who is overated.
lenoz- December 5, 2011 at 2:29 pm
@Ani703 $25,000 indeed does not fit inside $16,000. Well spotted.
NinjaVanish- December 5, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Bisping, the most overpaid, overated fighter in recent memory with that paycheck
Sloppyspray- December 5, 2011 at 2:26 pm
@amsterdamheavy - I don't believe he's been capable of growing chest hair ever since Hendo knocked him out. Pretty sure it screwed something up in his brain.
NinjaVanish- December 5, 2011 at 2:26 pm
Poor Yves being paid TUF pay, ouch!
Ani703- December 5, 2011 at 2:06 pm
I take it this doesn't include the bonuses that dodson, bermudez and the other guys got for their bonuses from the TUF series (fight of the series, knockout of the series, etc.)
Viva Hate- December 5, 2011 at 1:53 pm
Bisping must have some serious dirt on DW to command that kind of money, I mean dead hookers from his days with the Smasher Group buried in his back yard or photos of DW in clan gear or something because that is the only possible Bisping could pull that much money.
mousemeat- December 5, 2011 at 1:48 pm
totally off topic, but have they mixed up the nogs on the main ufc website? I know they are identical, but...
amsterdamheavy- December 5, 2011 at 1:23 pm
He makes that much money because he draws the Limey fans in better than anyone else.
