Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Turns Out Carlos Condit Didn’t Have a Choice in This Whole Diaz/GSP Debacle

(Video courtesy of BlipTV/InsideMMA)

If you thought something smelled fishy when Carlos Condit simply stepped aside from his title shot with Georges St. Pierre for Nick Diaz, then perhaps it’s time you used that nose to fight crime. On a very special Halloween episode of Inside MMA, it was revealed by “The Natural Born Killer’s” agent and President of First Round Management, Malki Kawa, that Condit was not given an option to back out of his welterweight championship bout, saying:

“Contrary to what has been stated, Carlos did not step aside and allow this to happen, and would not just hand over an opportunity for him to achieve his greatest career goal, one that he has earned through his strong performances in the octagon. No option was given to him.”

And once again, Dana White has left us standing in the road with our underpants pulled over our head, breathing in the dust trail of his BMW as he and all our friends laugh their way to Spring Break in Cancun. Though most of you probably knew this was the case, as the UFC has become known for its “bullshittery,” its contradicts DW’s own statements at the UFC 137 post fight press conference that Carlos had agreed to become the welterweight Rashad Evans for the time being.

And I gotta say, besides being a dick move, taking away Condit’s shot and handing it to Nick Diaz, WHO ALREADY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY AND SQUANDERED IT, only adheres to the growing belief that the UFC would rather promote WWE style grudge matches than legitimate contender fights.

Does Diaz deserve a title shot after his dismanlting of Penn? Sure, but simply pushing aside a legit contender in Condit, who originally took the fight to save the UFC’s ass as a result of Diaz’s actions, doesn’t exactly put forth the sentiment that putting your head down and working hard will get you far in the sport’s highest promotion. Instead, it sends the message that forming coherent sentences during post fight interviews not involving f-bombs and simply allowing Joe Silva to do his job will get you jack squat. If you want a title shot, try bad mouthing the champ, the promotion that is paying you, and throw in some bitching about your current living situation and inability to buy a home for fair measure. Makes sense, right?

Now, before you lash out with cries of “It was Diaz’s title shot to begin with,” ask yourself this: Is this really the direction you want to see the UFC heading in? Maybe the words of Triple H are having a more resounding impact that we could have ever imagined.

@ Robpd22, Dude I think we are pretty much on the same page, I agree that Carlos got screwed but at the end of the day the UFC is a business and they are striking while the iron is hot. My point was that every sport, including baseball, promotes rivalries and that the WWE are not the pioneers of this strategy. You were polite enough with your rebuttal but I will point out that that Turkey is not a third world country and I posted that vid because who doesn't like a good football brawl?

*no chance at any of them*

No this isn't common among any other damn sport in the world. The Cardinals and Rangers would have been pulled in a heartbeat if the MLB thought it was possible, it wasn't a match-up the majority of average fans wanted to see. That is why this pull didn't make a lot of sense.

Condit was a good match for GSP. Diaz is a good match for GSP. Both of these fights should happen during 2012 and would have if nothing changed. The only way that doesn't happen is if Condit takes a lesser fight to kill time and somehow loses.

When this all started GSP was supposed to fight Diaz, and then the winner of Condit/Penn. IMO Condit has looked REALLY good lately and Penn looked like his normal out of shape self at 170 vs Diaz. IMO Condit would have won as convincingly as Diaz or more so had he faced Penn last week. He then would have got the winner of GSP/Diaz (GSP....again, IMO) for the title.

Now through no fault of his own, he missed BJ Penn, then GSP, and now has to chance at any of them for several months. God forbid he draws Fitch and gets wrestled to death. Im actually a former wrestler and like to see them do well in UFC, but if Condit loses a title shot he 100% deserves for losing to take downs I'm really going to feel sorry for him.

P.S. Posting a video of a 3rd world country shooting fireworks at each other has nothing to do with MMA and promoters.

@ Sho Nuff, co sign. Look Carlos did get screwed here but this in not the first time a no 1 contendor has lost his spot, Rashad, Fitch. The UFC is a company and this is the best business choice at the moment, six months ago only real MMA fans knew who Diaz was now he is is the twitter top ten conversations, whatever the hell that means. The UFC are banking on this grudge but this is common in boxing and also any other damn sport in the world, shit have you eber seen a Turkish football game?

Some of you guys are just fucking dumb. I can tell by some of the comments that some of you still watch WWE. If you are on of these people, please save your opinions until the grown ups are done talking.

Calling someone out with strong words after a fight /= wwe style. Condit has been paid off, and it truely wasn't his fight to begin with, so I don't see the problem here. Missing press conferences should be a 5% purse reduction or something, taking away their fight for not answering stupid questions that no one cares about is ridiculous

Dana puts together what people want to see, for example Silva vs chael, in boxing a promoter gives his fighter easy bouts, Dana could easily have his 2 top fighters lose with these next bouts. Don king would have Carlos Vs George and Silva vs Bisping

Seems like world war 3 in here with these comments
And carlos condit being the rashad evans had me laughing my ass off
Dynamo- November 1, 2011 at 2:50 pm
^ Diaz that is.
Dynamo- November 1, 2011 at 2:49 pm
The only reason he lost the shot was not wanting to deal with the WWE style BS anyways.
JohnnyBlaze- November 1, 2011 at 2:14 pm
@peacexxl Ya, most of the ppl who post comments on here do exactly that. no point in trying to correct idiots
peacexxl- November 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm
@Ironclad: I'd say you're an idiot but maybe in your world, 1 out of 4 isn't bad. "GSP has better boxing, cardio, wrestling, and they are even at BJJ"? Do you even know who the hell Nick Diaz is. That is an insane statement and counts as scientific proof that people in coments sections of MMA sites type with one hand while pulling random statements out of their asses with the other. I mean ... wow, just WOW!

Dana white lied to us during the ufc 137 post presser.

he said condit agreed to give his shot away freely.

what a fucking cock sucker, this is why i refuse to buy his ppvs ;)
intercept440- November 1, 2011 at 1:26 pm
i like talkin shit and throwing it just as much as the rest of you monkey's... but lets look at it like this shall we.
i dont work for the ufc, niether do you. i dont run the ufc. and niether do you. that would be the baldfather
all arguments are invalid.
gsp will fight diaz... and we will all watch it and be happy for the ensuing carnage.
i dont give a fuck if condit got moved or not, i get to watch people get punched in the face for entertainment value... how sweet is that.
MelonHead- November 1, 2011 at 1:02 pm
Liverpunch, just noticed your post saying pretty much the same thing about GSP demanding the fight.

I guess I'm not alone, just tired of seeing posts on different forums of people being like - 'OBVIOUSLY DANA'S GOING TO GIVE THE CHAMP THE FIGHT IF HE DEMANDED IT!!!'

the same is true for Condits manager being upset with GSP; he's either a meathead incapable of critical thought or he's trying to elicit a response from GSP to find out what really happened. Either way, right or wrong, GSP vs Diaz is the fight I want to see.
MelonHead- November 1, 2011 at 12:55 pm
Am I the only one that skeptical that GSP demanded the Diaz fight. Seems that everyone, including Condits manager is spewing it as fact despite Dana White misrepresenting the facts about Condit.
My opinion is that Dana White fabricated the whole story to get what he and the UFC wanted and GSP is a team player that won't voluntarily contradict his boss in public.

plus Dana White's mom is an attention-seeking whore

Condit got a title shot through no fault of his own, and he lost the title shot through no fault of his own. C'est la vie.

Don't kid yourself. The UFC, like any mainstream sports entity, is a money-making enterprise. They put fights together that make money. Dana has said that they put fights together that the fans want and why wouldn't he? It's the fans that pay the money. Are ya with me?

I have a flow chart too if you're interested. In short, Dana White would have to be pretty fucking stupid to not make this fight and make it happen as quick as possible.

Was it fair to Condit? Nope. Am I lot more likely to pay for the fight now? Another article penned by Danga couldn't keep me away. Before you say Dana's obvious manipulation of events is bullshit (and I'm not saying it's not) watch how fast you buy that PPV. You will and so will I. Fuck, even Condit will.

I'm a little leery about GSP demanding this seems about as likely as Condit stepping aside...
RSparrow- November 1, 2011 at 11:52 am
Dana: Carlos, you there buddy?
Conduit: Yes sir, what's going on?
Dana: Listen, I gotta move your fight with GSP.
Conduit: Umm.. ok what's...
Dana: Listen, you'll get paid. Bank.
Conduit: Ummmm... yes sir.

fitch is the most undervalued fighter in mma. his style is boring as shit but he gets the w. they would have had fitch fight shieldzzz but everyone was worried the audience would slip into a coma.
Me likey- November 1, 2011 at 11:42 am
he beat a 170 pd bj penn who has won 1 of his last 6 fights at 170. he has won 1 of his last 5 fights total. both of those wins were against matt hughes who has really gone down hill.
condit is 21-1 in his last 13 defeating kim, ellenburger, hardy, and macdonald with his sole loss coming to martin kampmann via split dec.
