Tweets of the Day: If You Don’t Believe Dana White Can Set Up Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva, You’re a ‘Dummy’

(Sorry guys, but this shitty Photoshop is as close as we’ll get to seeing these two face off. / Image via MMAMania)

Considering how many times Jon Jones and Anderson Silva have told us that they’ll never fight each other, most reasonable people would have given up hope on that particular fantasy-match by now. Of course, UFC president Dana White is not exactly known for being reasonable. Asked by a fan on Twitter yesterday if Jones vs. Silva would ever happen, Dana replied “it will.”

That simple phrase — seemingly based on nothing other than his own desire to promote the fight, and his long-standing belief that any fighter can be convinced to do anything if you put enough money in front of them — resulted in a predictable firestorm on twitter. There were the gullible UFC-marks who expressed their excitement for the match as if it was already booked, and the detractors who questioned if Dana could actually put it together.

Props to Reddit/MMA for capturing part of the ensuing tantrum…

Once again: If you doubt anything Dana says, you can pretty much eat a dick, even if you’re a paying customer. And how do you think Jones and Silva would feel if they heard White making promises about their careers that completely contradict their wishes? Can the UFC really force them to fight? It’s stuff like this that makes me sympathize with Bones’s “piece of meat” comment. Treating employees like they’re your property is a pretty reliable way to ensure that they won’t remain loyal to you.

piece of meat? No. Employees with a god damn job to do? Yes.

silva vs gsp is still a dumb matchup. Gsp is coming off a year long layoff with a whole division to contend with when he gets past Carlos. There's no time for a superfight, and besides silva is just so much bigger that it wouldn't even appear competitive. If silva wants gsp so badly he should drop to 170 and challenge him, not call him out from a higher weight.

jones v Anderson is the only superfight I looking for. Also, point of fact.. white is a chubby bag of dicks.

#1 Twitter dudes matter (17 is just too fucking low)

#2 Jones is ducking Silva like the plague. All Jones had to do was to say 'fuck that guy' but he's just too scared to actually do it.

#3 Silva is the GOAT MMA superstar.

Silva fight GSP, ya that is an awsome plan. Maybe we'll get to the bottom of the cadbury secret of whether a dominate champ vs a bigger dominate champ can over come the size differance and make everyones wet-dreams...wet. Well, here's the reality. GSP is a pound for pound great because he has fought all of his career at welterweight, rather than cut down to leightweight, which accourding to his trainers is a possiblility. The guy is 5"10. Ya he's got legs like a horse, but he is not even close to the size of Silva.

Now we got Silva. If anyone has watched any of his earlier stuff, than they would know that at one point he was listed at 5"11 169 pounds. After seeing Silva in pictures and comparing to GSP, do I think that they should fight? no!. Fuck weigh-ins. They are differant size men and if you can't see it, I got nothing for ya.

Who gives a fuck if the fighters are loyal, as long as they understand what their job is and can do it well and not be dumb enough to say no to Joe or Dana. Enough of the stupid pipedreams of a much bigger Anderson trying to fight a much smaller GSP, that is just a pussy attempt at making himself look big by beating a name. Anderson walks around at 205,and is almost the same height and size as johnny boy. I would love to see bones get his stupid ass knocked out, so enough deepthroating each other cause you are scared to lose your "Place".......fucking fight you two pussy cowards!

To believe that this fight will acually happen, is to believe the sure nonsense that came out of Mr. Whites mouth when he said that he was going to deliver Fedor. "Best of intentions" is what I believe more accuratley discribes what will transpire. No more than he can turn water into wine, than he can make to guys, that don't want to fight, dance like puppets on a string.

Cool to see the stare down pic I mean, gives me chills just thinking about that fight.
ArmFarmer- October 12, 2012 at 2:28 pm
straight cash homie deserves any insults lobbed his way, and the "shut up dummy" came off as more of a playful jab. I just hope this fight happens, it would be amazing. Biggest fight ever. I like how Anderson's arms are twice the size of Jon's. Sadly I'm sure it's just the product of a crappy photo shop. Still cool to see.

Yeah, they can always leave and go fight in Strikeforce.

Or work their way up through a Bellator tournament and fight four times in two months and then get put on the shelf for a year.

Or move to Singapore.

@12ozcurls dude if u think for one minute that dana is not in control of all matters ufc, ur probably one of these people that think cowboy cerrone likes riding horses. even jones admits it, why else would he appologize. why would brock lesnar retract his coors light statement and sit with a smile on his face next to a can of bud after the fight. come on bro really? further more ur, right personalities do matter.
cman- October 12, 2012 at 12:58 pm
Sorry, i still love that he tells people to fuck off. He built a billion dollar company, and STILL gets to do this. Seriously, do you know how many times a day i want to do this vs how many i actually get to?
About 200 wants to 3 actuals.... But still.

Even though the "this is a job and Dana is the boss" analogy is flawed, let's go with it. Boss says do "x"; employee refuses. Boss has two choices; fire the employee or accept it and find someone else to do "x". The threat of firing is meaningless to Anderson. He has enough money and he sees the finish line to his career coming up anyway. Since the fight is Anderson vs Jones Dana can't just find someone else to do it so if Anderson doesn't agree to it then that's the end of it. If Dana fires him the fight doesn't happen anyway.

It will be exciting to watch this power struggle play out. Will the athletes become bigger than the sport? How much longer will Dana be able to control and manipulate them?
El Guapo- October 12, 2012 at 11:25 am
Spider will retire if he's forced to fight Bones. Watch
Pen Fifteen- October 12, 2012 at 11:20 am
rite leg, you are a retard. Dana White isn't the boss of a widget factory where Jones and Silva work cleaning toilets, they ARE the product. That said, I don't think Jones helped value turning down that fight, but to suggest the UFC could exist without stars is ludicrous. Look what happened to the NBA after Michael Jordan retired and they had a "thug" (Iverson) and a rapist (Kobe) as their top 2 draws. People care about personalities at least as much as the brand. This is even more true in a one-on-one sport like MMA.

If a customer of mine calls me an arrogant piece of shit, I tell him to take his business elsewhere.

Pretty much anyone in any field would do this.

If you're a disrespectful asshole, you get treated as such.

But I guess it's more glamorous to write "ooooo Dana White is a big meaniehead!!1"
rite leg ospitahl- October 12, 2012 at 10:34 am
@12ozcurls: the guys said fuck you ur an arrogant piece of shit to dana, and your taking his side? sympathy works both ways. and with a shirtless headless profile picture and a name like straight cash homie, that guy deserves every bit of shit any body can give him everyday.
The12ozCurls- October 12, 2012 at 10:42 am
What about the first guy - Domye West - I understand retaliation but the first guy was just being honest. Straight Cash Homie was a douche - I agree, but DW can be so damn cavalier to random nobodies that it makes me sick at times. What does he even respond for?
RearNakedSpoon- October 12, 2012 at 11:17 am
Domye....dummy, I thought it was a kind of play on words.
The12ozCurls- October 12, 2012 at 11:52 am
Maybe - but he has used the "dummy" slam before.
Who gives a shit - LOL. You know how I comment and vice-versa so I think we both know where each other is coming from.
rite leg ospitahl- October 12, 2012 at 10:29 am
fighters need to remember its a job and dana is the boss. if your boss tells you to clean the bathroom at work, you do it. stop being pussies, nobody likes watching fights where they know the winner from the time its announced. i believe the steady decline of viewers is evidence to that. everybody praises these guys for "controling their destiny," but views are down. what good is being a unbeaten fighter in an organization that cant pay you top dollar. the ufc wont have the pockets they once did if fighters dont start stepping up to the plate to get this show back on the road.
The12ozCurls- October 12, 2012 at 10:23 am
"Shut up dummy" and "ass hat"
Great way to treat your constituants Mr. President.
RearNakedSpoon- October 12, 2012 at 10:13 am
Just put a new part into their contracts when it comes time to renew, which says they can never turn down a fair fight under normal circumstances. They shouldn't be scared if they are granted a full training camp and the point of them being under the UFC banner is to fight the best available.
They should all agree to fighting anyone presented to them or else retire.
