UFC 100 Recap: Now That We’ve All Had A Chance to Calm Down…

(Props: Fox Fight Game)

Brock Lesnar showed up to the UFC 100 post-fight presser with a Bud Light in hand to apologize for acting like a total Brock Lesnar after his victory over Frank Mir.  He tried to explain it away by pointing out that a) he was pretty jacked up emotionally, b) Mir had talked a lot of shit, and c) he’ll drink any beer.  Yeah, as apologies/sponsor endorsements go, this one will probably not be used as a model going forward.  Still, he gave it a shot, which counts for a very small something.

Other notes coming out of the UFC 100 aftermath…

- The UFC really did open up the checkbook and hand out unprecedented $100,000 bonus awards, much to their credit.  Tom “Just Bleed” Lawlor took home the cash for Submission of the Night.  Knockout of the Night went to Dan Henderson for the two nasty right hands he landed on Michael Bisping, only one of which was really necessary.  Fight of the Night went to Yoshihiro Akiyama and Alan Belcher for their very close three-round battle.

- While fans seemed too preoccupied with booing Lesnar to really get a 'Fedor' chant going, Dana White did concede that he’d like to do Fedor/Lesnar, and actually managed to sound optimistic about it:

"This whole Fedor thing has been going on and on and on.  I keep saying this and that about him and he keeps waiting. Eventually, Fedor's going to be here. I want Fedor. I want him to come to the UFC and everything else.  …This guy just became the heavyweight champion.  We'll end up getting that deal done. And then we'll do Brock vs. Fedor, and it'll be a huge fight."

- The sold out event brought in a $5.1 million live gate, which is second only to the $5.4 million brought in by Liddell/Ortiz II.

Comments

The apology is refreshing I was really disappointed the UFC let him do that last night. However, I'm still tired of Lesnar being champion even though it hasn't been 24 hours.

Lesnar is a bitch.

Maybe now that Brock's burned bridges w/ Bud Light, maybe the UFC will reconsider Fedor's demand of putting a Stolichnaya Vodka banner in the center of the Octogon. Er, I mean, ring... that's another stipulation...

I live in NY but I'd cheer the Russian over Lesnar any day.

It was the faggot fans who made him act like that you idiots. Shut the fuck up and come to terms with it. Definately wanna see Fedor though.

You poke a bear with a stick long enough, the bear gets up and tears you a new one. Brock took the first loss very personal and Mir needling him constantly through the media was the equivalent of poking the bear. Lesnar erupted after the fight because he still had a lot of pent up hostiility. Was it professional? No. Understandable? Yes. I bet he remembers his 5 losses in college better than his over 100 wins. Scary thing is, his MMA skill level has no where to go but up. Get used to seeing him in the Octagon with his hand raised.

Fuck cock chestnar, that is all.

a) he was pretty jacked up emotionally

Emotionally. Righttt. I really wish they could somehow get Fedor to fight him just once so he could see how much of a 'fighter' he really is. He reminds of just a 285 lb schoolyard bully.

brockobitch doesn't stand a chance against fedor.

what a fuckstick

Yeah, the apology was sincere, but he is still a piece of crap. He still sucks in my book. Just laying on top of people and hitting them like a little kid. My opinion may change when he fights Velazquez or Carwin.

I really don't know how Fedor/Lesnar would go. That being said, for some reason, I think that Fedor is more dangerous than Mir on the ground and off his back. Fedor just seems more explosive and athletic than Mir. He's also way more dangerous on the feet. I'd say Fedor would beat Mir 8 out of 10 fights.

However, Lesnar's smothering of Mir on the ground would be tough for anyone to deal with, Fedor included. If Fedor were to let himeself get in the position Mir ended up in, it would probably be a similar outcome.

I do think that Fedor is alot quicker than Mir and would would be more dangerous to Lesnar.

Props to Lesnar for the win, but I swear I throught I was watching some Pro Wrestling crap with that playing to the crowd in his post-fight. No need for MMA to go down that road.

Fedor would beat Mir 10/10 times.

@ nicer,

You're probably right. I'll go 9 out of 10, just to factor in that always present puncher's chance.

But then you gotta factor in that Fedor is half terminator, he can take a beating like no other and still come right back to make you cry uncle.

PEOPLE ARE NOW SAYING THAT LESNAR ONLY LAID, AND SMOTHERED MIR. SO THATS ALL YOU THINK HE IS GOOD FOR HUH. THATS NOT SAYING MUCH AT ALL ABOUT EVERYONES HERO BEFORE THE FIGHT MIR OR ANYONE ELSE THAT LESNAR BEATS. IF YOU FUCKS WANT TO CUT LESNAR UP THE BACK, AND TALK DOWN ON HIM THEN YOU HAD BETTER THINK ABOUT THE FIGHTERS THAT HE SMASHES. YOU KNOW, THE ONES ALOT OF YOU SUCK ON BEFORE LESNAR BEATS THEM. SO WHAT ARE YOU DUMB ASSES SAYING ABOUT THEM AND THERE SKILL NOW. ALL THAT SKILL, AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AIN'T WORTH MUCH OF A FUCK WHEN IT COMES TO FACING A FAKE ASS WWE WRESTLER IS IT. LOL I JUST LOVE THE FACT THAT OL'FAKE ASS WRESTLER LESNAR IS SMASHING ALL THE SO CALLED BEST FIGHTERS IN THE WORLD WITH HIS SMOTHERING OF THE HAMMERFIST AND ONLY ALITTLE OVER 2 YEARS IN MMA. LOL IN YOUR FUCKING FACE MOTHER FUCKERS. LESNAR LESNAR LESNAR LESNAR LESNAR.......MY NAME IS HAL, AND I HAVE SPOKEN.

Fucking moron.

I hope you know how ridiculous your comments are.

"I really wish they could somehow get Fedor to fight him just once so he could see how much of a 'fighter' he really is. "

Did you forget that he is the undisputed UFC champion? I mean, seriously. I love Fedor as much as anyone, but I think it's time to tap the breaks a little bit and give some credit.

Lesnar's last four opponents were Mir, Couture, Herring, and Mir. (All since 2008)

Fedor's? Arlovski, Sylvia, Choi, and Lindland. (Going back to 2006)

Maybe it's time to show some respect.

History in the making! First Coleman gives us Ground 'n Pound... and now Lesnar has given us Flop 'n Flail! An amazing victory of mass over technique...

Lesnar is great at wrestling, thats it. once he faces an opponent of similiar size and strength,(no 40 pound fuckin weight advantage) he'll be exposed for exactly what he is, a playground bully with the emotional/intellectual age of 3, with great wrestling.

Lesnar will get some respect, once he earns it

I would rather see Lesner fight Alexs Emelianenko in a barb wire match. If there ever was a dick who deserved Hepatitis it's Brock the cock.

Fedor is the man, but people saying Brock would have no chance? Please...The emperor is an MMA god, but even he will be defeated. Would the smart money still be on Fedor..of course. He has the perfect mix of Anti-Brock tools. But, Brock is also the one of the only types to see any success for any amount of time with Fedor--aggressive wrestlers. Problem is, they get position and then succumb to an armbar. Right Coleman? Right?

The mere fact that there is so much discussion and posting about Brocks antics means they succeeded at attention whoring. And yes, they probably were made in the heat of the moment.

Anybody know who that chick is 3 seconds into the video? She's pretty cute.

JUICE YOU FUCKING MORON. WHO NEEDS ALL THAT SKILL AND TALENT TO WHEN FIGHTS WHEN YOU HAVE AFEW GOOD'OL FASHION HAMMER FIST. SEEMS EVERYONE WITH ALL THOS YEARS OF TRAINING, AND GATHERING UP ALL THAT SKILL AIN'T WORTH MUCH AT ALL WHEN IT COMES TO A FAKE ASS WRESTLER. MIR WAS SUPPOSED TO SMASH LESNAR WITH ALL OF HIS SKILL, AND TALENT WAS'NT HE. THAT SHIT DID'NT WORK OUT AT ALL FOR HIM. IT WOULD BE NO DIFFERENT WHEN IT CAME TO FEDOR VS LESNAR. IF LESNAR EVER GETS THE CHANCE HE WILL BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF FEDOR JUST LIKE HE IS DOING TO EVERYONE ELSE. THEN WHAT WILL YOU DUMB SON OF A BITCHES HAVE TO SAY. I'M SURE YOU'LL COME UP WITH SOMETHING STUPID THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. YOU BUNCH OF DUMB BASTARDS.

You mean lay on him and punch him just like GSP does? Everyone bitches about a lay and pray but when one of there favs do it the call it some amazing skill. Dont get me wrong im not saying its not a skill in fact if u can hold any pro ufc fighter down to finish a fight u have respect in my book. I just hate u bitches who say he has no skill because all he does is ground and pound but when someone u like does it u would blow him.

To 831 Son:

You love using the word 'faggot' a whole lot. Seems like there's a lot of 'faggots' in your world that you feel obligated to set, ahem, straight, by your keystrokes. Do you feel the need to assure us that you are 100% hetero? Nobody here wants to fuck you in your ass. Don't worry so much.

Respectfully,
Dubbayoo

I think my favorite line so far is "All he does is lay on you and hit you like a girl/child"

I don't know what fucking nuclear power plant you live by, but I've never seen a child hit like that.

The man knows what his advantages are, and uses them. It is up to his opponent, who ever that is, to make him change his game plan. Frank was unable to do so.

I'd be interested to know what heavyweight could get out of that predicament he put Mir in. Up against the cage with 280lbs laying on you, there's not much you can do.

@nicer

It's funny how you say that you wish the UFC could get Fedor to show Lesnar what a real fighter he is because in reality he's the only one Lesnar hasn't beaten.

People give Lesnar a bunch of crap for only having 4 or 5 professional fights and already given now, two title shots, but in the wake of all that crap Lesnar has decidedly beaten some pretty good opponents. He takes a decision with Herring after beating the shit out of him for 3 rounds.

Pounds Mir's face in for 55 seconds before he get's knee barred. Understandable, it's only his 2 second fight and Mir is a seasoned vet.

Manhandles Couture, beating him with Couture's own strength in wrestling.

And now he fights Mir in the worst possible situation, with Mir on his back, where Mir is supposed to be the strongest. The best submission heavyweight fighter of all time, or so the Fight Stats say. He controls his wrists and arms and puts himself in a position to fire off huge uncontested right hands all round. If Lesnar was really soo crappy, he would've never been able to do that to Mir. It really just looks bad on Mir. As a jiu-jitsu black belt, he got out-grappled by a nobody. Not even a white belt.

I'm not a Lesnar fan, but I know when a guys deserves some credit for all hard work he's put in.

With all the hype arond Lesnar, you can compare him to Kimbo as far as rookies go that have had tons of media attention, and we all know how that Kimbo thing went, beating Tank (whoohoo), winning a fight he lost twice against Thompson, and getting knocked out my Seth.

@ canadian chronic
Couture was great at wrestling and that was about it. He fought with a ton of heart, that's true. But so far, Brock hasn't been pushed enough to have to use his heart and will power to move forward. Says more about his opponents lack of skills, than it does about Brocks.

And Brock having a 40 pound weight advantages is once again his opponents fault, not Brocks. The dude cuts to get to 265. He's a big guy, plain and simple. His opponents coming in weighing less than him, give him that advantage. Plain and simple

Lesnar doesn't have technique? Why don't you ask Mir if he has technique. I know what he'll tell you. He perfectly used his size and strength advantage along with some novel wrestling.

I was a hold out about the whole Lesnar phenomenon, but I have to look at the fight (apart from all the raging bullshit held over from the WWE and 'roid use) and tip my hat to the fighter.

Respect.

OK, let's say that it was a combination of emotion, fan response, and Mir's trash-talking that caused Brock to flip off the audience and go after Frank post-fight. Let's even say that's a good excuse. (It ain't. Sane people don't behave that way.) What's the excuse for when Lesnar wanted to storm out of the pre-fight press conference because the chair didn't satisfy him? When he said he wanted to punch Mazzagatti's moustache off? When he lashed out at Bud Light? When he snapped at security who were afraid he might attack Mir after the fight?

Let's face it: Brock can apologize all he wants (and it's pretty clear that the apology -- and the bottle of beer -- came after a conversation with Dana), but we have seen the true Lesnar. Hell, we saw him emerge in his gloating performance against Herring. Lesnar completely lacks the class of a true martial artist. He's a mean-spirited, psychopathic prima donna who enjoys using his freak size to bully people, gets a kick out of hurting things, and believes that intimacy is getting on top of his woman.

Yeah, he's a dominant fighter, and I don't see anybody taking his belt -- sorry, not even Fedor. The next season of TUF might as well be called "Guys Who Will Never Threaten Lesnar." That being said, he's a disgrace, and I'll never give the UFC a dime for any PPV that has Brock on it.

Hal your such an idiot "MIR WAS SUPPOSED TO SMASH LESNAR WITH ALL OF HIS SKILL, AND TALENT WAS'NT HE."

I don't think anyone was really saying Mir was going to smash Lesnar except Mir. The fucking odds were Lesnar -240 Mir +190 in a nutshell that just means your an inept retard.

831 had another genius quote "It was the faggot fans who made him act like that you idiots."

Yeah it was totally the fans that made the guy flip them off, thats why Dana was totally fine with Brock's actions...oh no wait. And it totally wasn't Brock's bitch ass little attitude that made him tell the UFC's biggest sponsor to fuck themselves, totally the fault of the fans...again thats why Dana didn't tear Brock a new asshole...oh no wait. 831 you should probaly go back to jerking off to old wrestling videos and shut the hell up.

Lesnar is definitely a beast, but also a fucking idiot. He acted like he was the villian at wrestlemania, there isn't too many things I'll go out and say are totally bad for MMA but i'd say acting like a pro wrestler and shitting on your companies biggest sponsor would be a couple of them. Give Lesnar his credit but there is no way in hell he takes out Fedor, he shouldn't even be in the conversation yet. War Cain. War Carwin.

The fans were booing Lesnar from the getgo. If they had shown some fucking respect or cheered, then Lesnar wouldn't have flipped everyone off and gone crazy. Shut up already you clowns. Would you fools be happy when the whole crowd is booing you for no reason??? NO. And Mir talked mad shit he deserved every bit of that. Fucking crybabies.

Luck Frock Besnar.
I had to get that out, but I don't want to get beat up. He doesn't read these posts does he? Fuck! He's behind me!

Brock executed a perfect game plan. He tied up Mir's legs on the ground with 1/2 guard & just controled Mir's wrists until punches presented themselves. It was a mater of time.

Props to Brock for superior positioning.

& Frank... staying in 1/2 guard against a wrestler? THAT is something they teach you not to do in the first week.

Shut the fuck up Portland MMA. Were you even watching it fag?? Because clearly it was because the fans that booed him like little bitches, you being one of them in your house tearing up like a girl. Haha, I enjoy all the incompetent losers that just hate Brock so much.

@ ReDx

Thats the girl Rampage impreganted. . .

all i have to say about the people that think cain valesquez would beat lesnar, you have got to be kidding me. Cains wrestling whooped up on kongo, but there is no way cain is going to out wrestle lesnar. no matter how you look at it. They both have the same game, shoot in, take down, ground and pound. except brock lesnar is a huge man and Cain is still a child, he would get thrown around that ring like a bitch, no doubt about it.

and for everyone else throwing a fit about lesnar speaking his mind, have any of yall ever been in a position like that? beating someones ass after they beat you, and talked shit about it? It is a pretty incredible feeling to whoop someones ass that was talking shit.

Carwin will get him guys... Carwin will get him.

If the fans were booing from the getgo it was because Lesnar acts like a complete inbred white trash piece of shit. Why should they respect that? If Lesnar acted as professional and respectful as GSP he never would have been booed.

As said by others, Carwin probably has the best chance being so similar to Brock: A big dude, a wrestler and has heavy hands (Maybe). However, he is devoid of personality which may be a factor in the fight and possibly in life.

Come on, the Brock stuff at the end was douchey, but still entertaining and fun. And it got everyone talking. For those complaining at how he's a black eye for MMA to the general public, it's not like a classy Brock Lesnar legitimatizes the sport anymore than the loudmouth Brock.

Lol@ Deadpanda. Nice "first week" comment. I know Lesnar will get a kick out of it.

Lesner completely destroyed Frank Mir, His face looked like ground beef...Again. He's quickly becoming the Tito Ortiz of this current UFC era in terms of "hated" fighters. People will love to hate this guy and he looks like he loves to make them hate him. I found his antics funny. Unprofessional? If you wanna look at it that way, I guess you can with good reason, but it's gets kinda tiring seeing all this pre-match back and forth only to see them hug and play nice immediately after. This is something that has been boiling for months and real emotion is not something you can turn off just because herb dean tells you to get off of him.

@ Bruham:

"I've never seen a child hit like that."

One day, video of Fedor as a child will surface. OH YEAH! WAR FEDOR MOTHERFUCKERS!!! Not that I'm actually a Fedor nuthugger, but maybe I should be now. I can only assume that Fedor was watching that fight from his lair in Siberia. Dana probably footed the PPV bill as a courtesy. But after Barnett, I think Dana's right... Fedor will be coming to the UFC. I'm fine w/ him coming to the UFC on one-off non-title bout against Lesnar (perhaps a ladder match?) and then never fighting in the UFC again... or even retire. and Lesnar will have to deal w/ never avenging that loss. Instead, he'll find out where Russia is located (after discovering that USSR doesn't appear on any maps anymore), and try to avenge the loss on Fedor's doorstep.. that is if he can get past the Sambo fighting alligators lurking in his moat... Damn this coffee is strong.

... but Mir deserves respect. Mir is a top heavyweight, who (THIS TIME AROUND) was dominated. I think Mir's skills are ever-evolving... I bet that Mir entered the Octagon as the best version of himself that he's ever been, but simply didn't have the answers to deal what yesterdays evolution of Brock gave him.

The way I look at it, having a 300 pound ape on laying on you is the wrestling equivalent of a body triangle. Brock's loss to Mir showed him what tools he lacked in his arsenal. Mir's loss to Brock likely will do the same for him

BROCK IS NOT UNBEATABLE! And there are obviously worthy challengers in the UFC for him and Mir is still one of them. But as Mir regroups, there's a 265 pound gorilla in the room that responds to the name Shane Carwin. He is w/o a doubt, cut from the same cloth as Brock.. Brock's side of the cloth just happens to be dipped in douche powder. It's VERRRRRY unlikely that Brock could get Shane trapped underneath him like he did Mir. We all know that when two good wrestlers fight, the wrestling gets canceled out and they stand and trade. Stuck in that realm, Carwin has the range, and the power, and enough surface area in his fist to show that Brock can be put to sleep. That's a fact. Does it mean that it'll happen? Only one way to find out, Joe Silva. If you ask me, in the line of heavyweight champs, Brock will have won and lost the title to a guy with a receding hairline.

War Rogaine!

@portland MMA

where do you live in portland. i am also reside in PDX and roll at third eye ju jitsu.

@Dubbayoo

I think you are a mistaken. It has been documented that Fedor was not "born", he simply arrived on this planet with two missions "destroy humans, especially on new year's eve, and eat ice cream."

I don't think anyone is unbeatable, and I was impressed with how good Mir looked at the weigh-in, the dude was ripped for the first time I came remember.

Honestly, I don't want another weight class created. I find the HW class fun because of that possible weight disparity. That's just me, I see no need to water down two divisions with the creation of a SHW.

Also, did anyone catch that Bisping post-fight interview? Direct quote: "Ahhsllwlll...I'm this many old...alsjhfhf"

I feel like if you are going to diss Bud Light, at least pick a decent beer to say you are gonna drink...Coors Light is terrible. Maybe he should have gone Canadian Molson.

I knew as soon as I heard him diss the sponsor that Dana was gonna throw a fit.

and for everyone else throwing a fit about lesnar speaking his mind, have any of yall ever been in a position like that? beating someones ass after they beat you, and talked shit about it? It is a pretty incredible feeling to whoop someones ass that was talking shit.

EXACTLY.

Sometimes I wonder if people even watched the same fight I did. MMA and Fighting in general is about WINNING. Brock held Mir on the ground and controlled the guy the entire time. Mir couldn't move his head or his arm because Brock kept it pinned down. Thus, he landed some BRUTAL shots to the face of Mir. I mean come on, would just laying on the dude make Mir's face look like that? Time to get real people and admit that a "fake" wrestler beat up two great UFC champions. Sad, but true. I think it's great he won, because I would love to see how Brock does against the other contenders, and if he does defeat them, do a rubber match with Frank.

@kula I live in South East. Impact BJJ at PSU. You going to the UFC Portland show?

@831 man you have got some issues with gay people, if your anything like the repulican party its because your scared of your own tendencies.

Well I went 3 out of 4 with my calls.. so not bad... Went against Brock based off of emotion, even though I think we all knew what the raging silver back would do..and did.

Mir did have him seeing tweety bird for a second with the knee, but could not land anymore, as he flopped to his ass-- It would of been nice to see a bit more standup in that fight- Which I will say would of ended the fight differently.

I was not rooting for Mir so to speak.. just against Brock and the linage of douchey bullies that he is the current world pinnacle of..

And that fact was firmly established last night.

---

I think Brock's chin is suspect... just as Cain's is...

I predict Carwin proving both points.
