UFC 108 Cursewatch: Sean Sherk Out, Ludwig In Against Miller

("…and I better not catch you standing up peeing. You sit down when you pee, you got that?" Photo courtesy of USA Today.)

What, you thought the UFC 108 curse had taken a break for the holidays? Bitch it’s just getting started. broke the news last night that Sean Sherk has been forced to withdraw from his January 2nd bout against Jim Miller, becoming the eighth fighter to drop off the card. According to MMA Weekly, Sherk sustained a cut over his right eye in training that required several stitches, and his replacement will be UFC/Strikeforce vet Duane "Bang" Ludwig (19-9). Ludwig most recently scored a first-round submission-via-punches victory over Ryan Roberts two weeks ago at a Ring of Fire event in Denver, and picked up consecutive wins against Sammy Morgan and Yves Edwards before that; he’s also responsible for the fastest unofficial knockout in UFC history.

Sean Sherk hasn’t competed since his decision loss to Frankie Edgar in May. He was scheduled to face Gleison Tibau on the UFC 104 card in October, but had to pull out due to a shoulder injury. UFC 108′s current (but by no means permanent) lineup is after the jump.

Great caption.

Good to see Bang in the UFC again.

I definitly think this UFC is worth watching based on the curse alone. The way things are going, we might get to witness the first death inside a cage (though i honestly hope not).

yeah i totally forgot about Yvel!! throw that nuggah in the thunderdome!!!

thats the best caption of the year!
macreadysshack- December 18, 2009 at 10:07 am
Haha, yeah, Dos Santos, whatever you do, do NOT bend over to pick up your mouthpiece.

I'd say losing two Octagon Girls to the Curse of 108 is worse.

That and Pedro Martinez backing out because of a sports hernia.

I would rank this as the #1 most cursed card of all time. Especially considering that even without the 8 pullouts we have seen already, this card was supposed to feature Lesnar/Carwin and Silva/Belfort at one point. They should just say fuck it, take a cue from the Japanese New Year's shows, and go the freak show route for this card. That would probably be more entertaining. The only fight I really wanna see is Dos Santos/Yvel. Mainly to see if Dos Santos gets shanked in the 2nd round.

Nice caption BTW. Sometimes I wonder if the Bens working out their traumatic childhood issues via this website....

Duane Bang is actually pretty awesome. It'll be cool to see him in the Octagon again.

"it's just getting STARTED, bitches" - made me laugh.

This replacement isn't too much of a blow. I'm laughing in the face of this curse. It'll have to sideline Rashad or Silva for me to bow down to it and call it my master. You hear me, curse???

the third guy from the left in the social code ad looks like a cross between penn at 145 and a sickly greg jackson...

I am pumped that Bang is back in the UFC. I never understand why they would just cut him everytime he won?

Best bas Rutten protege by far.

I would like to see him fight Spencer Fisher.

I'd rather see Cris Santos naked in Playboygirl.

Hey agentsmith, you do know Ludwig is 2-0 in ufc right? I'm not jumping on his sack or anything, but his wins are against Genki Sudo and Goulet. Maybe that's not saying much, but hey his standup is good. I say Hazelett comes out rockin that Grizzly Adams beard again so he can make weight.

I wouldn't even want to spend the money on gas driving somewhere to watch this card for free. I think I will just catch the results on the liveblog and leave it at that.

Hey, CP- can you do some sleuthing to see if the rumors are true, and Thiago Silva is being paid not to back out?
skeletor- December 18, 2009 at 7:05 am
I buy every UFC no matter how mediocre, but I will not be buying this one. Piece of shit. By far the most cursed event of all time. Also I hope Rashad gets his ass beat.
agentsmith- December 18, 2009 at 7:02 am
Is it too late to switch this one over to Spike?

Anybody know where I can find some unified rules and scoring system for grappling tournaments?
cloiselle- December 18, 2009 at 6:22 am
another sorry ass ufc card i WONT BE PAYING TO SEE.
agentsmith- December 18, 2009 at 6:21 am
Actually, Ludwig's most recent fight was a win over some can named Ryan "Are You Ready?" Roberts.

His record isn't the greatest, but it's not the worst either. He won't last long in the UFC.
Robocop Didnt Tap- December 18, 2009 at 6:20 am
I was hoping for Jim Miller/Don Zimmer. Shit. :(

Also, everyone below this line molests collies
imalebowski- December 18, 2009 at 6:20 am
My name's Leonard Washington. Where I'm from? A little town called None Of Your Goddamn Business.

sorry, had chappelle's show on mah brain.

i would honestly rank this as the most cursed event ever. sure, other events had a ton of fighters back out, but this had a huge amount of big name fighters drop out. it went from being almost a super show to god damned mclovin in the co-main event.
