UFC 116 Post-Fight Press Conference

(Now who’s laughing? I mean at my MMA career, not my tattoo.)

Just a reminder that we will have the post-fight presser right here at approximately 1:00am ET.

Will Chris Leben get Submission of the Night and Wanderlei Silva as his next opponent?

Will Sotiropoulos-Pellegrino or Soszynski-Bonnar get fight of the night?

Will Gerald Harris get Knockout of the Night for his slam KO of David Branch or will Dana give it to a main card fighter?

Who is getting dropped and who is getting a title shot next?

All of these questions and more will be answered below.

Lytle got robbed, had Brown in two different holds
Brandon69- July 4, 2010 at 4:28 pm
Is the press conference video working for everyone ? for me it just stops about 10 or so minutes in when Leben says he needs to go back and watch the tape. It just stops and starts over.
Häkkiperuna- July 4, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Can't we all just get along? We can never have anything nice.
edster- July 4, 2010 at 11:23 am
I too think Lytle should have received submission of the night. He had Brown so tied up that the man wasn't even able to tap and instead had to give a verbal tap. How can that not be the ultimate submission?
cecils_pupils- July 4, 2010 at 8:22 am
Hey wiffa - so who's side are you on for chrissakes? When things are all chummy over at BE you are harping about the Potato over on BE. Now that you don't like something they say about Brock and you come running to Mike Russell to save you? WTF man. That's some bitchassery IMO.

Choose NOW. Either you stick with Potato Nation and stop talking shit about us over on bloodyvajayjay, and say sianara to ALL those fucksicks - or get the hell outta here and don't come back. Potato Nation has no room for this bullshit.

What's it gonna be wiffa? Are you with us, or against us?

@ Jizzninja what an idiot, Werdum would beat any HW in the UFC huh? Do you think because he beat Fedor he absorbed his powers? That must of been Danas plan when he cut him from the UFC, Werdum was too good keep in the UFC so cut him and let him go to a shittier organization.
MyFightWiffaCheeto- July 4, 2010 at 6:43 am
Hey Russell. Can you fuck with BloodyElbow again... Read this Haterade they dumped on Brock. hxxp://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/7/4/1551642/best-in-the-world-brock-lesnar-and?login=1278246849# Fucking Snowden.

"Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan called Brock Lesnar's title defense against the relatively unknown Shane Carwin the biggest heavyweight promotion in MMA history. We'll know next week whether that was true when the pay per view numbers trickle out, but certainly Fedor-Cro Cop and even Sylvia-Couture had significantly more buzz in the community. Goldberg made another claim I think we can dispute right away: he said these were the two best heavyweights in the world. I saw something different. I saw a wildly entertaining fight between two guys who are still nowhere near finished products in the cage. To channel Georges St. Pierre for a moment, while I was entertained, I was "not impressed with their performance."

We learned a few things about Brock Lesnar tonight. We confirmed what many suspected: Brock Lesnar doesn't like to get hit. As soon as Carwin touched him, Lesnar did more than cover up. He flat cowered against the cage. He wasn't hurt as much as terrified. Make no mistake-Carwin had that fight won. Against anyone who isn't the promotion's heavyweight champion, that fight gets stopped due to some brutal ground and pound.

Lucky for Lesnar, Carwin isn't merely a one-round fighter. He doesn't event have that much in him. Three minutes into the bout and Carwin's heaving breaths couldn't feed his mammoth muscles. Lesnar survived, less because of his own defensive prowess and more because Carwin gassed and gassed bad.

We learned a few things about Shane Carwin, too. When the fight went to the second round, Carwin was no longer participating. He looked like he was approaching a heart attack and was like a spectator at his own execution. Lesnar took him to the mat with a sloppy tackle and shortly thereafter finished him with an arm triangle. It was hardly a display of technical prowess. Carwin had either checked out mentally or simply couldn't summon the energy to defend himself.

As a spectacle, it was amazing. Lesnar's display of fortitude will become a big part of his legend. But this fight still leaves tons of lingering questions about what kind of fighter Lesnar will become. He looked helpless against Carwin, scared and desperate. His standup game is still rudimentary. He got tagged with everything and landed almost nothing. If he gets hit by Cain Velasquez, one thing is for certain. We know Cain won't falter, will never quit that prematurely. This is a winnable fight for Cain Velasquez and one I'm looking forward to very much."

YEah I dont wanna be all "Leben is da man" but the fight was very even and he showed a lot of heart. I still like Sexy-Yama, though. Brock surprised me a bit with that choke, but I think he just "got" Carwin. Both these fighters are vastly inexperienced compared to lots of other champions (Silva, Penn etc) so losing in the second round to such a basic maneuver after punching yourself out, doesn't surprise me. I still want to kill myself because Brock Lesnar is the champ, but it just makes me want to train harder.

Interview of the night...Akiyama
dgabriel88- July 4, 2010 at 5:31 am
Lol jizzninja just because Werdum beat Fedor recently you think he'd "stomp any ufc hw". Hardly when JDS has already tko'd him in 1min in the first round.
jizzninja- July 4, 2010 at 4:29 am
Imo ufc is the biggest hype train ever. WEC is where mma is truly at. All this HW division hype is crap. Overeem would stomp any of ufc hw and I would say fedor and werdum would as well. Was it an entertaining fight tonite...sure. Was is it a top notch display of mma, far from it. Lesnar beat a guy who beat a bunch of cans while lesnar himself has only beaten cans. Now I'm not all hate I do like cain and jds I think those guys are the future of the hwd but as for now lesnar has still not proved shit to me. When lesnar goes 32-1 then ill say he was the best hw. Dana knows it, he's the one that builds all the hype over this comical character that is lesnar. The real champs are the ones that don't have this hilarious hype train behind them promoted by organizations yet a hype train purely by their performances.
newdeal- July 4, 2010 at 4:26 am
People say the lesnar fight could have been stopped in the first, i was thinking which watching it they were probably close to a stoppage until they showed a different angle that would be more the refs angle where it showed bricks massive arms completely covering his face, Brock took some good shots but most were hitting his arms. Also i was watching a video awhile back where big John was giving instructions in he locker room and he said if you are getting shots landed on the ground it's ok and if you turtle up its ok too as long as when the ref says to move you try to move your position. If he says move and you don't do anything then it's over. I have to assume they told brock the same thing in the locker room because he was blocking himself however he was trying to stay moving any time he could get some space. I was shocked to see him move from mount to an arm triangle i thought he would try some gorilla punches but his game is evolving, now he needs to do some work on taking a shot and escaping from the bottom

Fucken great fight card stoked with every fight

Great goddamn card. Shit I'm wasted.
ghostboner- July 4, 2010 at 12:42 am
Bones vs the Janitor doesn't exactly give me a Boneser, but after tonight I can't really complain. This card was good enough to save the rest of the year if all the fights suck.

I liked Brock's "I'm gonna drink a Bud, and get on top of my Harley.."
Smitty- July 3, 2010 at 11:29 pm
And just think fellas, we got Bones Jones and The Janitor comin up next. Okami is also back in action. 6 days later we get to see if Chael is really the man to take the spiders belt. And if that ain't enough, we get the Benivedes/Cruz rematch on WEC. Great night of fights tonight, but we got some good shit right around the corner.
RwilsonR- July 3, 2010 at 11:05 pm
I was very surprised, but that was one of the best nights of fights I have seen in a long time. Not a bad fight among them, even on the Spike undercard. Well, the Kendall Grove fight they tacked on to the end was pretty average, but all the rest were great.

I thought Lytle got cheated out of his submission bonus. I was as impressed as anyone with Brock's improved submission game, but Lytle's submission was a thing of beauty. And I'm not one to think they should determine bonuses based on need instead of merit, but that $75K will mean a lot more to the firefighter who would double his night's winnings with the extra cash, rather than the guy who will be walking away with several million dollars. Putting that aside, Lytle undoubtedly earned that submission bonus, and it is really the only complaint I have.

...Well, I also think they could have given out fight of the night honors to 3 different fights. But that isn't a complaint so much as a statement on how strong the fights were tonight.
Morningwood- July 3, 2010 at 10:51 pm
who thinks Akiyama fights in the UFC again? I think he should, but what I'm wondering is if Leben gets Wandy next. Akiyama will have to wait a 8-14 months to fight Wandy. Do you think he'll stick around?

I hope he does, his Judo is awesome and very entertaining. I just wonder if he'll get frustrated and leave.
rite leg ospitahl- July 3, 2010 at 10:42 pm
good point sexy yama really showed me something, poor conditioning and a good chin. but lets not get excited, leben aint neccessarily a contender. good night though, very true.
nickyroose- July 3, 2010 at 10:35 pm
Look back I am the number 1 cock chestner hater. But tonight he showed something. Leben is fight of the night. I had Carwin all the way. But when I saw that dude sucking air, I said sheeeeee-it. It looked bad. 1st round Out wrestled and out struck Chestnar second round GASSED. Disappointing. Lesnar got handled by Randy before the hit. But still being able to come through what some say should have been stopped and come hard again is impressive. Sexy-yama has a following now but tonight is Leben- Lesnar.
Morningwood- July 3, 2010 at 10:27 pm
It was a pretty good card tonight. Leben's a warrior!!!
