UFC 125 to Feature Marcus Davis’s Lightweight Debut, Mike Brown’s UFC Return

("That’s it. Diet starts tomorrow.")

After getting put to sleep by Nate Diaz at UFC 118 — his third loss in four attempts — Marcus Davis announced his intention to drop to lightweight. According to MMA Junkie, the Irish Hand Grenade’s 155-pound debut will take place at the UFC’s stacked New Year’s Day card in Las Vegas against Jeremy Stephens, who publicly requested to be Davis’s first lightweight opponent. Stephens most recently lost a split decision to Melvin Guillard at UFC 119.

Another likely matchup for UFC 125: Resolution will be former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown making his promotional return against Diego Nunes. Brown made a single UFC appearance as a lightweight back at UFC 47 in 2004, losing by first-round submission to Genki Sudo. He most recently scored a quick TKO over Cole Province at WEC 51 in September. Representing Nova Uniao, Nunes has put together a 4-1 record in the WEC, and is coming off of consecutive decision wins against Raphael Assuncao and Tyler Toner.

The tentative lineup for UFC 125 is after the jump…

Main Card
Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (for lightweight championship)
Jose Aldo vs. Josh Grispi (for featherweight championship)
Clay Guida vs. Takanori Gomi (LW)
Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim (WW)
Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann (MW)

Preliminary Card (not necessarily in this order)
Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva (LHW)
Jacob Volkmann vs. Antonio McKee (LW)
Phil Baroni vs. Brad Tavares (MW)
Matt Wiman vs. Cole Miller (LW)
Daniel Roberts vs. Greg Soto (WW)
Mike Brown vs Diego Nunes (FW)
Marcus Davis vs. Jeremy Stephens (LW)

This card is ridiculous. I haven't bought a ppv in a while, but I might have to get this one.

Kommst du aus Deutschland?

I didn't pity Marcus Davis when he first become a zombie with an insatiable appetite for brains, but locking him in a cage with Nick Diaz is just cruel.

Hopefully Baroni comes out inspired for this fight.

How the hell did Vera snake himself into another UFC fight? I couldve sworn he was released.

Jesus this card is stacked. I mean, the dark portion would have been PPV worthy a year or so ago.

Any one of the main card bouts sounds like a FOTN. Nice. Very nice. *Edit: well, except for the LW strap

You beat me to it!

Wow! This is indeed a great card. Stacked with Lighter weight classes too. This will be explosive!

Sucks that MTB's match is gonna be in prelims. I hope Spike airs his fight...

War MTB and Aldo!

why does joe silva allow a fighter coming off a loss to pick his next opponent? he called out guillard and then got beat in a terrible fight. He shouldn't get to pick the radio station in the car let alone decide who he fights.

i'm leaving it up but i just remembered it was vice versa with the guillard thing. but i still don't care, that fight sucked.

@agent smith.

Mike Brown was on the prelims in his last WEC outing as well...
danomite- November 11, 2010 at 8:23 am
I guess they decided to stack the card with potentially exciting fights to compensate for the inevitable Gray Maynard hugfest.

A year and a half ago Vera v Silva could've headlined a card.

For the main card I'll take:

That card is so stacked it's a real shame that some of it will be dark. That whole thing should be televised. How about extending the free prelim show on Spike to 2 or 3 hours and putting every single fight on the air?
omunto- November 11, 2010 at 8:04 am
Wow that may be the samllest combined weight on a card I've seen. So many small guys. They should have tossed in 1 Heavyweight bout so that those two would feel like giants in the locker rooms.
agentsmith- November 11, 2010 at 7:59 am
Mike Brown vs Diego Nunes is second on prelims. This is the downside of the WEC assimilation, guys who used to be on the main card in the WEC are now stuck in the dark matches.
BalkanToni- November 11, 2010 at 7:47 am
This is one hell of a card! Much better than the crappy one they're throwing at us loyal German MMA-fans in a few days.
jgrant- November 11, 2010 at 7:43 am
Those prelims would make a stacked UFN or two.
