You can say Chael dominated Stann and Marquardt, look at how he won those fights, how he dominated on the ground, confusing both guys, advancing position on the ground and even finishing Stann.
Had Chael stayed in Marquardt's guard and Stann's guard the entire time they were on the ground, it would be a carbon copy of the A.Silva fight(without the finish). As I said before, take a look at the fight, re-think the word dominate, don't confuse dominating someone by defeating someone. Truth is Chael found himself in A.Silva's guard, a BJJ black belt who has been on his back against plenty of opponents who he beats in the end. Sonnen was winning that fight, but when I think domination in a fight, I generally like to think the fighter who dominated the fight was able to gain side control at the very least on the ground.
Really, why did Chael not stay in Marquardt's guard or Stann's guard if he was dominating the fight already? It's not about nut hugging on either side, it's more about qualifying Chael's performance and unfortunately acknowledging perhaps where and why it all went down the shitter in the last round. I don't think if Sonnen was passing guard at will and mounting his opponent like he did with Stann that he would have got caught in a triangle choke.

I actually fully believe that in their first fight, Anderson did have the rib injury he said. He looked off the entire night, and not just when he was on bottom. His footwork wasn't there, and he just didn't seem to be himself. So I think there is a good chance he will beat Sonnen pretty easily this fight.
So I fully admit that. But some of the anti-Chael folks on here are delusional about that first fight if they think Chael didn't dominate. Saying shit like, "Silva took everything Sonnen had, then submitted him when he felt like it", is just stupid. Chael was having his way with Anderson everywhere he wanted in that fight, and was submitted because he got tired and sloppy. I think a lot of it was due to the injury, but to deny Chael's dominance in that fight is just dumb.

Now it seems crazy to think about, but when the first Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen match was made, nobody cared. Silva had just finished embarrassing himself with Maia, and after fights with Leites, Cote, and Maia, the most exciting fighter in the world was becoming someone nobody wanted to watch. Chael was known more for LnP, and nobody really thought this fight would be very exciting. Chael went out there and sold the shit out of this fight, and he made people care. Then he went and backed up most everything he said. He is already selling this next fight, and call him cray if you want, but he is already making people care about it. Crazy or not, love him or hate him, that will work out to good business for him and the UFC.

The way I saw it Sonnen submitted Stann after beating him up and staying busy the whole time, then calm as anything without an ounce of emotion stands and walks off while taking out his mouth guard.
The first thing he says gets you laughing, calls out Silva as everyone expects and then "raises the stakes" which heightens the tension. Meanwhile Silva first has a mixed look of restrained fear and confusion at Sonnen confronting him in this way with the crowd and general atmosphere seeming to turn on him. Silva then changes to a forced jokey demeanour instead of going up to accept or reject Sonnen's challenge.
The key to all this, is that before the first fight Sonnen was talking a lot but then he came in and backed it up 100%. We all know this which gives Sonnen's words a lot more gravity and Silva is feeling it as the target. Silva will not jump at this fight but Sonnen just made it that little bit harder to dodge.
