Any comparison of their defensive styles to Chuck's is just ridiculous and indicative of a lack of understanding. Being a good striker isn't about never ever getting hit, but more about knowning you will get the best of the exchanges.

I will agree that GSP's wrestling, makes his striking more effective. Besides his ability to use shots as feints he often uses wrestling to wear out opponents before engaging in striking. That said I was primarily a grappler for a few years before I really got into striking, so no; I see no "shame" in using all aspects of the game to win. But, it must really require some real mental qymnastics to continually tout GSP's striking as being on the level of BJ or Diaz. It's silly. GSP may very well be the best 170 MMA guy, but do we really have to pretend that means all aspects of his game are individually superior. It's just not reality.

@ Karma - I generally agree with your last on both Anthony Johnson and GSP. The problem I have with Johnson is that he is inconsistent like Melvin Guillard. No doubt he could beat anyone, but I could also see him losing to a lot of mid-tier guys... and he has. And I would hate to see him get a title shot, because if he were to catch GSP and actually win, it would be awful to have an unprofessional champion who can't consistently make weight for title shots. I suppose the upshot would be that while I could see him catching GSP once, if GSP were given a rematch I don't see Johnson winning that fight a significant percentage of the time.

@ Karma - I think Georges would do fine against Diaz's hands, as he is much faster, and he is a much smarter defensive boxer than BJ. He has better head movement, foot movement, closes distance and gets out of range nicely, and mixes up strikes,
Also, I don't get why anybody would think GSP would be scared to be in Diaz's guard. Diaz has a good ground game, but he has never done well with hopelessly throwing his lanky limbs up against a stronger opponent who has good submission defense. GSP will bust up Diaz's guard no problem, and power through to dominant top control. Diaz will keep Georges from progressing past half guard most of the time, and toss up some hail mary triangle attempts that will never be close, but that will be the extent of it.

I'm a little tired of hearing how BJ and/or Nick Diaz have the best boxing in MMA. Both are accurate, but in the same way Chuck Liddell used to be accurate circa 2005 - it is easy to be accurate when you have no head movement or defense, and you just wade in with your eyes on the target. That works if you have a solid chin, which both BJ and Nick do. But it isnt a particularly skillful, and it is a failing strategy if you get tired or your chin starts to give out. GSP has 10 times the talent and skill of either of these two, and this only makes me certain Condit was the more legitimate threat to GSP.

i thought that the vera/marshall fight wasnt too bad. the first two rounds were a bit slow, but the third round was pretty good. but other than that, yes, the majority of the fighters didnt show any signs that they were actively trying to finish the fights.

I was surprised cerrone wasn't on the main card. he definitely will be next time.

If you mean the Spike prelims, they are definitely good, if you like knockouts and good fights. Cant say about facebook ones.

the only complaint i had about the spike prelims was that the actual fights were pretty short. they used vera vs marshall from the facebook prelims for filler.

i recorded the prelims and plan on catching them later. no good?

hmm..... im thinking that meathead, hioki, curran, big country, and diaz win their respective fights.... but i've been known to be wrong before.... but honestly, im left wondering just how much weight big country actually lost.....
