UFC 139 “Shogun vs Henderson”: Live Results & Commentary

Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story

Speaking of Koscheck, he said during his Q&A that Kampmann is talented but fights with horrible game plans. Will that be the case tonight?

R1: Story crowding Kampmann, driving forward with a barrage of shots. Story is unloading with some BIG shots. Kampmann gets out without getting too hurt. Story with a nice right hand. Kampmann is bleeding over his right eye. We’re seeing some nice body shots from Story. Now Story is bleeding over his right eye. Kampmann with a head kick, but Story blocks it. Both fighters are stnding in the center of the cage, but neither one is throwing out combis. Kampmann with a nice right hand. Story’s aggression has faded, giving Kampmann time to breathe and set up his punches, but the Hitman is hesitant to swing as well. Story dives in for a shot, but Kampmann keeps it on the feet.

R2: Kampmann starts off strong with a punch and head kick. Nice exchange from both men ends with a strong right from Story. The Hitman is gaining confidence and starting to throw more strikes. A pair of blocked head kicks from Kampmann. Nice standing elbow from Story, but Kampmann indicates it didn’t hurt. Story would be well served to go go wild again and swing for the fences, but he’s holding back. Kampmann grabs a body lock and drops Story to his back. Martin is working from half guard, coming close to securing an arm triangle but losing the hold. Story is just holding on with no real effort to escape. Kampmann makes another play for the arm triangle, but nothing doing.

R3: Kampmann looks to be the fresher of the two to start the round. Story reverts to his first round tactic of pressure and heavy strikes, backing Kampmann against the fence. Kampmann reverses position and puts Story against the cage as he works for a double leg. He succeeds momentarily, but Story pops up. Kampmann has his back but loses it and they’re back to the center of the Octagon swinging away. Now Story shoots for the takedown, but can’t hold Kampmann down. Nice knees from Kampmann in the clinch. Kampmann is locked on Story’s torso and looking to drag him down and resume his second round ground dominance. The two trade take downs, but neither is off their feet for more than a few seconds. Now Kampmann takes Story’s back and going for a rear naked choke as the clock winds down.

@ Karma..the judging was have rounds 2 and 3 mixed up and Shogun dominated the 4th round..hendo was out on his feet ..he didn't connect once was taken down 3 you can score that to Hendo I have no clue
KarmaAteMyCat- November 20, 2011 at 7:48 pm
I had that fight
Rd1:10-9 Hendo
Rd1:10-8 Hendo (Dan dropped dude twice and just controlled him and did massive amounts of damage, you do not gain point for just surviving.)
Rd3:10-9 Hendo
Rd4:10-9 Hendo(This Round was really close like insanely it could easily have been shoguns it's really hard to call but you gotta choose)
Rd5:10-8 Shogun.

Todd M- November 20, 2011 at 4:15 am
^ Yeah Gracie could make the cut as well as Randy, It's hard to limit the list to only 4.

Top to bottom pure awesomeness, besides maybe the Bonnar fight it was all exciting and some damn good finishes. Michael McDonald looked awesome tonight, that Soto kid was bringing it and McDonald stood his ground, future contender possibly. Don't ever bet against Faber after a loss, his boxing looked better than ever tonight, I guess he gets another crack at Cruz. Wandy and Le put on a hell of a show, I scared the shit outta my dog when Wand pulled the W, just stoppage it wasn't getting any better for Cung, dude needs to work on his gas tank if he wants to hang out in the big leagues. What can I say about the main event that u guys didn't, that shit was epic good win for Hendo. Man can Shogun take a shot and he was taking over at the end, I really thought he should of kept it standing in that last round but he couldn't quite finish it. After the 4th round I was saying that was the best fight I have ever seen, still might be but the slow last round took a little of the epicness out of it, what can you do it was an achievement that both of them were still fighting at that point, best night of fights for the year. PS to Myklhoey,My MMA Mt Rushmore is Anderson, Fedor, Wandy and Hendo, they are not all my favourites but these guys define MMA especially after tonight.
RSparrow- November 20, 2011 at 2:20 am
I love vandy as much as anyone, but the dudes a Lil slow guys...and jones will pick hendo apart.
jizzninja- November 19, 2011 at 11:06 pm
That was the most amazing fight I've ever watched! An absolute fuckin warbetween two class acts, although, it may have ruined mma from here on out for me.
Xanderschultz- November 19, 2011 at 10:02 pm
Hendo is great because he's the one hold out from the old era that didn't really evolve and is still winning fights. Doesn't really throw combos and hardly uses kicks. Almost never tries any Jits offense (had a guillotine for a sec tonight though). He doesn't even use his wrestling offense very much unless he's rocked. He's just an animal, hits like a truck and picks up W's.

I went 4-1 on the main card. Sunday is the Lord's day, but come Monday, bitches better pay!
RwilsonR- November 19, 2011 at 9:27 pm
Pride Mt. Rushmore - Leni Hart, Jerry Millen, Mauro Ranallo, and Nobuhiko Takada's ass in those sumo diapers.
RwilsonR- November 19, 2011 at 9:19 pm
I'd love to see Hendo test Jones' chin. I think Jones is gonna whoop up on Hendo, though, unless Dan can connect early. If Dan survives long enough to get to the point where he tires out like that, Jones will start dropping those elbows.
cabj1905- November 19, 2011 at 9:16 pm
Urijah Faber on his chin: "This thing's always getting in the way!"
hahah nice
edhedicus- November 19, 2011 at 9:11 pm
How much fun was that to watch? Best card of the year? WOW WOW WOW!!!!
DARKHORSE06- November 19, 2011 at 9:10 pm
@ Mike Hunt - I was joking. Jesuth! Great fight.
cabj1905- November 19, 2011 at 9:03 pm
KO and Sub of the night aside, these guys should get their bonuses tripled for such a fight. Imagine if this had been on fox. Holy shit.
Boo- November 19, 2011 at 9:01 pm
one of the greatest fights ever. There were no losers.
HEY- November 19, 2011 at 8:58 pm
