(Lytle vs. Taylor)
The UFC released its customary end-of-night bonuses for yesterday’s event in Birmingham. $40,000 bumps went to the following fighters:
Fight of the Night: Chris Lytle and Paul Taylor for their three-round throwdown, which was even brawlier than the main event.
Knockout of the Night: Luis Cane for his TKO-via-punches victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
Submission of the Night: As Fowlkes predicted, Jim Miller gets it for tapping David Baron via Millerplata — which is just a fancy name for a rear-naked-choke.
More vids after the jump…
(Carwin vs. Wain)
(Bisping vs. Leben)
(Jardine vs. Vera)

Why... the UFC 89 section of Cage wiki looks pretty updated...

Vera now a legitimate one of the top boring fighters in UFC, Bisping shouldnt be doing MMA, get into marathon or track instead. hes good but not impressive, just like tim silvia, he came there not to loose!!! didnt came to fight and win. just to survive. made leben frustrated and the fans too!!!! very disappointing main events! litle and taylor figth much better!
Sat, 10/18/08 - 03:16
The UFC shouldn't pay those who give a boring fight and avoid being hurt.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 03:32
Sure Carwin looks great but hes been fighting low level fighters. Lesnar would destroy those guys just as easy imo.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 04:25
The most boring UFC event in a long time, very unimpressive.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 04:45
ya the main events were definetly not as i expected, im glad it was free, almost the whole card went to decision
Sat, 10/18/08 - 05:04
Bisping looked like Starnes the way he back peddled the whole fight. Props to Leben for pushing the pace and trying to get Bisping to fight. Very unimpressive fights. I can't stand fighters who don't fight and this just makes me want to see Anderson Silva tear Bisping's head off. I would pay good money for that fight.

Anonymous - love the comparison between Bisping and Tim Sylvia. There is no denying that Bisping is a good fighter - but he's just not that entertaining to watch and when you boil it down thats what matters most - a fighter that can produced quality a entertaining fights.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 05:42
i love Sokoudjou. hes such an explosive fighter. if only he had taken carwin down on round two the story would be a litle different.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 06:21
"Carwin"- Your crazy if you think Carwin could take Lesnar. The UFC isnt hyping Carwin as much as Lesnar because Brock is a much stronger PPV draw... to be honest, Carwin vs. Lesnar should happen before Brock gets a title shot ! Carwin could take Lesnar AND Couture... No problem.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 06:24
Wain is a BJJ blue belt? Who gives a fuck? Its the belt right after white in BJJ (unlike in judo where its much more advanced) and the douchebags talk about it like its something we should respect. Can you imagine using "You know Joe, Saku is a yellow belt in judo". Are we supposed to be impressed that a fighter spent about 6months in BJJ class? Unless the guy is world class at something, dont mention it .
Sat, 10/18/08 - 06:37
Cane Vs. Sokoudjou was pretty fun to watch, I think the commentators did an especially good job calling that fight also. Bisping vs. Leben stopped being exciting after I watched the same exchange for the 10th time. That was the most repetative fight I can remember. Bisping should be ashamed of himself. If I was fighting in front of my countrymen the last thing I would do is fight cowardly! I would rather lose than have a track meet like that on my reel. Bisping loses any points he had with me, while Leben puts himself in contention for my favorite fighter list. Good show Chris, you done us proud. Also, thank god Jardine won. This is the only outcome at UFC 89 that mattered to me.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 07:07
How can you all keep dissing Bisping like that??? he fought a smart fight and you all act like it was a slap fight where he kept slapping and running. He knows leben can knock him out with one punch so hes not gonna stand in front of hiim. And if anybody was watching the same fight i was Bisping landed some pretty wicked hard shots on Leben that would probably EASILY drop any other fighter.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 07:17
KG You think Carwin could take Randy and brock? Carwin has only fucked up a bunch of nobodies.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 07:40
Props to the new guys (Miller, Baron, Hardy). They impressed me more than the four co-headliners. I would like to see these newcomers in future UFC events.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 08:00
man those "fans" seemed quite disrespectful to most of the fighters
Sat, 10/18/08 - 08:30
carwin would beat lesnar via broken face and pride, get off lesnars nuts he is just money in the bank period. leben looked much more patient and mature yet I feel the leben of old would have won this fight.
Sat, 10/18/08 - 08:55
Bisping has a good game plan.. watch the silva vs. leben fight... silva did the same thing until he caught leben with a real solid hit that dazed his bitchass. What starnes did and what bisping did are two VERY different things... starnes ran like a bitch... the whole fight. plus the fight was in his hometown... no way he looses a decision there. just like the hamill fight. people always bitch was someone fights smart... espically against an immature fighter as leben.. you see the crap he pulled at the end of the 3rd round? i wouldnt touch he glove or give him a respectful good fight hug for that crap...
Sat, 10/18/08 - 08:58
plus i liked when joe rogan slammed that crowd after the jardine fight... even though american fans would of booed as well at such a crappy fight, but it was priceless. it will happen when people start drinking alot... haha
Sat, 10/18/08 - 09:15
coming from Rogan i took it as more of a slam on alcohol consumption. WAR ROGAN!
Sat, 10/18/08 - 10:14
Boring.
Sun, 10/19/08 - 12:31
The sorry thing about it is Bisping said that it was his gameplan to get a unanimous decision. What is this - a points karate tournament? A boxing match? No. This is the "ultimate" fighting championship. Come to fight, not get a decision! I agree with joe - boring!
Sun, 10/19/08 - 12:34
And as far as comparing Bisping to Silva - no f*cking way. Silva may have waited for an opening and avoided punches, but he doesn't fight for a decision victory, he fights to knock somebody out, tko them, or submit them!
Sun, 10/19/08 - 01:33
You need to get off of Lesnars nuts. There is NO WAY Lesnar could hang with Carwin. Carwin would punch a hole inside Lesnars pasty white face. They even said that Carwin's hands couldnt even fit insides Brocks 4XL glove, they needed a special 5XL for him. The man is 10-0 and none of his fights have gone past the 1st round... and Lesnar has the title shot fighting Couture? Maybe it would be illegal to have Carwin fight Couture, they wouldnt want to see a homicide take place in the Octagon!
Sun, 10/19/08 - 01:37
Does anyone else see 2 light heavy weights with almost identical records both going for the same title shot against Griffin? Machida vs. Bisping Oh... god... no! It's going to be the worst fight in recent history.
Sun, 10/19/08 - 01:43
Dude, Bisping is a middleweight.. But you are right, watching Bisping fight Machida would be like turning magnets backwards and trying to stick them together
Sun, 10/19/08 - 02:53
Give me a break. Lesner would destroy Carwin. Carwin only beat Wain because Wain has less ground game than Kongo. Wain had Carwin stunned with one shot but then promptly got taken down. Also for the record Machida is very entertaining to those of us who understand the subtleties of what he does. Machida stays in the pocket. Is the first to strike in a lot of instances, and when Machida counters it's his opponents who are doing the running. Unlike Bisping's fight with Leben where it was mostly just a quick counter then Bisping run his ass off.
Sun, 10/19/08 - 04:24
machida vs bisping would be interestingly...hilarious!!! imagine 2 counterpunchers, man, they'ed stay there all 15 minuites staring at each other! every time one would punch the other one would run back vice versa. lol! comparing machida and bisping, lyoto seemed to have more balls than bisping. and lyoto is a very technical fighter, relaxed when he fights compare to bisping who look likes he's peeing on his pants with his stance and flatfooted footwork. as clay guida said" bispings one of the most overrated lightheavy weight right now" and i think when rampage was still delusional when he said that "bisping will take the title off anderson". bisping will wait til somebody beats silva or retire, then hell fight for the title shot! SCARDY CAT!!!!
Sun, 10/19/08 - 04:29
Oh Fu@*sh#t! who ever wins on the franklin a1nd henderson will be bispings next opponent!!! MAn bisping pissed dana white off real bad to get that matchup! i think bispings next plan is to go down to welter weight! lol
Sun, 10/19/08 - 04:33
just cant wait for that match !!! both ex Pride and UFC champions!!! hahaha the count should start counting now for the day he gets KTFO!!!- anonymous
Sun, 10/19/08 - 05:53
KG, are Carwin's nuts 5XL too? How do you fit them in your mouth?
Sun, 10/19/08 - 06:33
@Angry Monkey 'but he doesn’t fight for a decision victory, he fights to knock somebody out, tko them, or submit them!' Ahem! Don't you remember his fight against Brandon Vera....he held Vera against the cage for fear of being knocked out just to hold on for a decision victory!!!!! Sylvia is an ape
Sun, 10/19/08 - 07:36
# John Says: October 19th, 2008 at 10:25 am The most boring UFC event in a long time, very unimpressive. I agree. Even the Lytle Taylor fight was boring as hell.
Sun, 10/19/08 - 07:38
I'm late as usual. Anyway, I just finished watching UFC 89, and all I have to say is that I am glad I don't have to hear Mike Goldberg's 'herky jerky' commentary anymore. Jesus Christ!
Sun, 10/19/08 - 09:20
Taylors fight was the best on the card; if Lytle wouldn't of kept clinching with him he would of got knocked out. Gutted for Paul. The two main events were a little disappointing though. Overall not the best event which is a shame because when you look at the matchups it could of been an awesome card; Paul and Chris were the only ones who really brought it though.
Sun, 10/19/08 - 02:42
@Seamus I'm talking about Anderson Silva, not Tim Silvia. Silvia IS an ape. It was in reference to the post from Ray.
Sun, 10/19/08 - 08:17
@KG "But you are right, watching Bisping fight Machida would be like turning magnets backwards and trying to stick them together" That is classic.
