UFC 91 Bonuses + Videos

(Hazelett vs. McCrory. Props to MMAScraps.)

Last night’s UFC 91 transcended its humble lineup and turned out to be a memorably action-packed night of fights, with eight dramatic stoppages and one 15-minute war, which featured Jorge Gurgel once again brawling instead of playing to his strengths. Who knows how many losses it’ll take for him to learn his lesson — Gurgel is now 3-4 in the UFC, with all but one fight going to decision — but the UFC will be rewarding the bad behavior with a $60,000 pay bump. Gurgel and Aaron Riley picked up the Fight of the Night bonus for their wild kickboxing match, which ended in a unanimous D for Riley.

Jeremy Stephens took home the $60k Knockout of the Night bonus for his skull-shattering uppercut of Rafael dos Anjos in the third round of their fight. While there were only two stoppages by strikes to choose from (Gabriel Gonzaga was responsible for the other one), UFC 91 featured five fights ending in submission, and though Kenny Florian and Demian Maia‘s rear-naked chokes of Joe Stevenson and Nate Quarry were just as impressive, the UFC awarded Dustin Hazelett the Submission of the Night windfall for his oma-into-armbar pretzelage of poor Tamdan McCrory. Gurgel vs. Riley and more fights after the jump…

Good comment about Joe's defence to the rear naked "two hands on the fence" ???? what is that all that about...

UFC fighters put on a great show and Maia looks a beast at 185 ( i dont fancy The Count's chances against him )

As for Brock i cant see him getting beat for a few years if he gives 100% and keeps learning in and running up to each fight.

Someone please tell me what the HELL those bumps were all over Hendricks' body. They were even in his forearms for Christ's sake.

jeremy stephens will tear ken-flo up and you all know it he has improved so much on his ground game now he really is a all around fighter....

The fact that one has great respect for a fighter's ability to create put on an outstanding fight does not mean the fighter's appreciative fans are "gay nut-huggers", as some kayboard warriors (K.E.G) claim. Stupid closet-cases. So I think Randy is a respectable fighter and that means that he should go do ghey pron? Talk about repressed man-sex-loving secret desires, KEG. What a good show Gurgel put on.

jorge gurgel got triangle choked by cole miller last time he took the fight to the ground ,and riley was probably better on the ground than gurgel .jorge couldnt even pass alvin robinsons guard in their fight and then he wound up on his back with alvin in his guard and got pummeled for 2 rounds ,he doesnt look like hes gotta dangerous guard or good passing techniques id say gurgels ground game is over rated hes got a good chin and at best is average at everything else .never been a big fan of the guy he kinda seems like a homo i hope ufc lets him go .

Hey, show some respect for Gurgel and "Brazilian asses" you mofo.
Because of them you can watch a more competitive show in UFC.
"UFC Fan"? Gimme a break.
Beqwith- November 15, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Gurgel should get nothing but respect. He is a BJJ stud but he challenges himself to improve his striking. Who else would have the balls to work it out on a stage as big as the UFC. He lets it all go and win or lose if he fights like a madman, the UFC will always welcome him back. Once he gets his striking even more finely tuned he will be unbeatable because he can then incorporate his world class BJJ. How can you hate on a guy who just warred like that? Wake up you cynical morons. That was glory.
dizzle- November 15, 2008 at 11:07 pm
damn.. u can see the force of gonzaga punch go from that dudes face to his body . talk about power
K.E.G.- November 15, 2008 at 10:58 pm
At least we know on thing when and I mean WHEN the UFC cuts old Jorge he will have no problem earning a living as a gay prostitute. I mean with all the attention he's getting from his male fans (Richard Wad) on this site he'd probably make a small fortune. Hopefuly for you guys this will happen sooner rather then later.

write that down in your little book

Jorge Gurgel put on an outstanding, exciting fight with Riley and I'd gladly see him fight again, whether he continues using his standup or BJJ. Gotta give him props. He and Riley contributed greatly to the card. And Gurgel is still more talented and well-respected than beer-gut "K.E.G" will ever be. Bravo on the fight. The best card I've seen yet. And Gurgel would put you to sleep in seconds, KEG.
K.E.G.- November 15, 2008 at 8:57 pm
He’s accomplshed a shitload now, more than you’ll ever accomplish in your entire life. And he can get more women, and has more appreciation and respect from peers than you will, ever. Haha, douche. You call yourself a UFC Fan…queer young’n.

Wow! You really have a hard on for this guy don't you? Fact is who gives a shit about his BJJ it's ineffective in the octagon. Dude got owned on the show and he fucking sucks. The only reason he got a contract with the UFC is because Franklin was backing him. If I never saw him fight again I wouldn't give to shits.

Fuck Jorge Gurgel
bradly bonerface- November 15, 2008 at 7:11 pm
gurgel's jits maybe world class on paper but in the ring it sucks. how many times will he get fixed on one limb and in the process just get bombarde with fists. He's really not that great and his record blows. last night he need to stand or else it would have been a decision.
James- November 15, 2008 at 7:09 pm
One of the best UFCs in quite a long while. It's also the first in a long time that we got to see the entire fight card during the broadcast. Hazlett's submission on McCrory was ridiculous. Your shoulder shouldn't move that way.
Stylin- November 15, 2008 at 7:04 pm
What's frustrating about Gurgel is that two of his students (Hazlett and Brown) both used their jits (that was taught by Jorge) to win their fights. They knew where their strengths were and they used them to victory. To quote KenFlo, "It's time to kill the master." Although, it seems like Gurgel's doing a good job of doing that to himself.

Awesome night of fights. This is the best card I have witnessed thus far for any UFC event. Not one bad fight. I enjoyed every single one.
"UFC FAN" says: "Gurgel! You put on exciting fights but if you can’t win and you don’t want to lose your jiu-jitsu, you can go back to being a English translator you stupid FUCK!"

Couture/Lesnar was stopped due to strikes, so thats three.

Gurgel, next in line to get fired.....I hope.
Chri534- November 15, 2008 at 5:19 pm
haha, nice burn

Something else to point out about Florian's first round stoppage: it took BJ Penn 2 rounds to find a rear naked choke on Stevenson...just sayin'.

couture wanted that fight with lesnar,in no way did he get screwed maybe lesnar didnt earn the title shot yet but couture saw him as a challange compared to the rest of the heavyweights he could have faced. plus lesnar is a big draw cause all the wwe tools order the ppv that he is headlining
