If you were an MMA fan four years ago, you can probably imagine what your reaction would have been had someone, preferably Scott Bakula from “Quantum Leap,” gone back in time to show you this poster for UFC 99. For one thing, you would have been blown away that the UFC even made it to UFC 99, and that they hadn’t yet transitioned to an all-robot fighting organization. Then there’s the shock of seeing Pride bad-ass Wanderlei Silva in the Octagon to face UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin, and in Germany for fuck’s sake.
Basically, your head would have exploded right then and there, all over Scott Bakula, which is why time travel is dangerous to begin with and should probably be avoided until we are responsible enough to not use it for stuff like showing fight posters to people.
Now think about how you view this poster in the present day. It’s still a credible fight, and still interesting, though for entirely different reasons. Let’s just say no one’s head is in any danger of exploding here, with the possible exception of Wanderlei. And if you weren’t an MMA fan back in 2005 and you don’t really get what I’m going on about here, allow me to derisively say, noob!

commentsbut uneducated, no... Franklin hasn't beat anyone that matters since he got his face smashed by Anderson Silva in 2006 - Lutter and and Jason McDonald both washed out of the UFC, Okami was promising (but he has gone nowhere with his only wins the past 2 years since the Franklin fight being against Evan Tanner and Dean Lister(who also washd out of the UFC)), and then also a win against the UFC golden boy Matt Hamill, who has gone on to defeat such world-renowned superstars like mark munoz and and reese andy(i can sense the world utter a collective gasp of fond remembrance at those last two household names in MMA)
so if I mischaracterized Rich Franklin's recent career showing, please tell me where?
not trying to hate on the guy, but I certainly hope he and Dana White spend Christmas together like DW and Liddell, or else he is facing a tootsie roll out the UFC's revolving door.
I am really looking forward to 98, 99 is rounding up..100 just because you kinda have to, 101 is coming along nicely as well...
I think Franklin can take it to another level again...with a little luck, which never hurt anything.
"The ComeBACH"
get it. i've been waiting to use that one
i have waited a long time for ufc in germany. franklin and wanderlei should be fireworks.
just so happens i will be visiting the grandparents there at this time. maybe we can get some tix, but kinda a long drive from bocholt.
i was just stating my observation - Franklin looked awkward in his fight against Hendo.
How far the mighty have fallen...
