UFC Booking Alert: Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson @ UFC on FOX 3, Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva Rematch @ UFC on FX 3

(Dude. Don’t even get me started about mustard water. / Props: hypeordie)

After knocking out Christian Morecraft at UFC on FX 1 last month, Pat Barry has booked his next fight. The heavyweight kickboxer will face Lavar Johnson on the main card of UFC on FOX 3, May 5th in New Jersey, which will officially be headlined by a five-round lightweight contest between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller.

Lavar Johnson scored the Knockout of the Night during last weekend’s UFC on FOX 2 card, by smashing Joey Beltran in the first round of their preliminary card meeting. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak that Johnson had carried over from his stint in Strikeforce. His upcoming scrap with Barry seems like a way for the UFC to guarantee some much-needed excitement for their next FOX broadcast. As for Barry, it’s an opportunity to bump his UFC record over .500 and secure back-to-back victories for the first time in his UFC career.

In other May booking news…

The UFC has confirmed that their third FX card will take place May 15th in Fairfax, Virginia, and will feature a light-heavyweight rematch between Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva. Their first meeting in January 2011 was originally a unanimous decision win for Silva, until he popped positive for a urine adulterant and the fight was changed to a no-contest; Silva later admitted to using prohibited “injections” to treat a back injury he had suffered before the fight. This will be Silva’s first match since coming back from a one-year suspension, while Vera scored a follow-up decision win over Eliot Marshall in October.

UFC on FX 3 will also host a middleweight match between Tom Lawlor and Jason MacDonald.

I had a blast watching brock try his hand at this! I think the comments reflect some truth in what his mind was thinking... He was great for a strong moment but the sport evolves. For a strong moment he was able to lock down people with speed, power, wrist moves as he did with mir, got a few glancing shots in vs randy etc... The carwin fight I HAVE no idea how he survived that and wow when he came back to win that one... wow... The game evolved I think the 1 demise of brock that isn't covered anywhere is this: There are gold medal olympic wrestlers that can school brock at wrestling and the top fighters trained 24 seven on getting up, getting out and not allowing the fight to get to the ground case and point brocks last 2 fights cain velasquez and alliaster how ever it's spelled... The fight world i.e. the top just trained to not get stuck on the ground and take the fight to the stand up game and it worked like a charm.. I think now a fighter must have stand up, speed, form to do anything because if you can't take the guy down you must fight him and you may be a horse but even horses have chin's and if your a punching bag during your fight because your game plan was removed by the other fighter i.e can't take him down you will go down no matter what especially if stand up is sorta your thing... these are the best in the world at striking, kick boxing, it's open to anyone so it's the best..Even boxers, know what it's open to fight so if you the best there is a way to know ... anyways I give brock all the credit in the world he fought the best with courage won some, lost some what are you doing to do! There will be robo champs that are just that good will be shocking if we ever see 10 win's in a row from a heavy weight in the ufc but I think it's upon us!

Vera Vs. Silva will be the rematche of all rematches.

@Xeno - Mostly submissions. I tend to finish fights with chokes. Mostly rear naked and anacondas. For some reason I have retard strength when it comes to squeezing chokes. Other than that TKO's. I have only had one "dead cow" KO. It was pretty bad though. I usually am super pumped and adrenaline is flowing and I am doing the normal Paul Harris "get you some" pose but with this guy I instantly felt terrible like I had really hurt this guy bad.
XENOPHON- February 2, 2012 at 2:52 pm
@The_Dead_Cow Says: Mayo, no. Miracle Whip.
@Jackbequick - Vera needs to go, he is taking up space. Tell me about an exciting Vera fight, and I will tell you about a hooker that can hands free puff on an entire cigarette while being rabbit holed and never drop a single ash. Try to learn that trick Carmen.
Jackbequick- February 2, 2012 at 2:37 pm
Vera must be thinking that his nose will be knocked straight this time around. That was one tough learning curve he endured to run right back into another fight with a killer like Thiago. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that "da troof" is going to end up trying the same thing, expecting a different result. Insanity does make for good fights though....
The_Dead_Cow- February 2, 2012 at 2:25 pm
No mayo? WTF

So IronClad is the hateful persona? Damm it, I only made one shower joke and I never mention that you don't have soap on the rope. Speaking of ropes, I read Angelo Dundee kicked the bucket today at age 90.
IronClad- February 2, 2012 at 11:50 am
I was on the fence about Pat Berry. He's a bit neurotic and trys hard to have this kooky personality. This man speaks the truth. I fucking hate mustard water almost worse than Xeno's stupid shower jokes and Skeletors fucking stupid "i hate danga" schtick. I've learned...shake them condiments up, son!
XENOPHON- February 2, 2012 at 11:11 am
Anyone ever realize just how much smaller Pat Barry's left eye is compared to his right eye. Maybe he just got some mustard in it while in the shower, or was that soap, or....?

I believe someone called this matchup in the "Armchair Matchmaker" post earlier this week.

Barry is going have to be smart about this one. Lavar has some power and Barry can't afford to get tagged and loose his momentum if he wants to become relevant as a HW. I'm sure it'll end by knockout regardless of who wins
XENOPHON- February 2, 2012 at 9:27 am
@Fletch the V Stretch - True that. Trying too hard is a formula to ruin...you end up losing focus, it's a weakness, true? It's as erroneous as backing off too early.

Out of curiosity, from your finishes are they KO's, TKO's, or Submissions?
XENOPHON- February 2, 2012 at 9:15 am
dranokills - bring some that mustard water - I got a skin flute sammy for you lil honey musterd.

johnson drops his right all the way to his hip to throw it. barry should be able to left hook him into another ko win.
Lesnarischamp- February 2, 2012 at 7:07 am
Silva and Vera is going to be just as lopsided again.
-
I'm assuming this just a way to re-cut Vera out of the UFC.
-
and a gift matchup for Barry, he should pick Johnson apart.
Kaboom82- February 2, 2012 at 7:06 am
Shake the mustard before you use it, breh. Same rules apply to ketchup. Which btw, I find ketchup water much worse than mustard water.
This was one of the earliest life lessons i recall learning. About as complex as wiping ones own ass.
I'm willing to bet Pat Barrt puts out a video about how every time he takes a dump he ends up smearing shit all over his balls.
.
Oh, and Jason MacDonald still has a job. cool. I was Curious about that for a while.
Fletch the V Stretch- February 2, 2012 at 7:05 am
Haha. Agreed shake your damn mustard bottle retard. Takes 4 seconds.
-
I, once again, see Barry blasting his way to victory.
-
@Xeno: from yesterday's thread. I am not a Greg Jackson style points fighter. I'm just saying that if you push too hard for a finish it can backfire. See pat Barry check Congo. I go out to finish fights myself. Sometimes it just isn't in the cards.
-
@everyone else: poll, who wins the interim title? Diaz or Condit? My vote is for Condit but it will be a battle. If he can stick to his gameplan and avoid a face punching contest, use his MT, circle, never get caught flat footed, and not allow Diaz to dictate the entire pace of the fight I can see him winning. If it's a close fight, Diaz will take the decision simply based on the UFC is clearly calling fights sometimes based on the fights they want to put together. In my opinion anyways.

fuckin bootystar: nonsensical motherfucker gives me a headache
MexicanJudo- February 2, 2012 at 6:45 am
Lavar will KO Barry. =)
dranokills- February 2, 2012 at 6:36 am
If you don't shake up your condiments before use, you deserve to get mustard water (and or ketchup water) on your sammy.
That's like uber stupid...that's like XENO-stupid!
bootystar- February 2, 2012 at 6:29 am
berry has this easy. you don't mess with sabbats like Beltane & get away with it.
