UFC Japan Show Will Be Counter-Programmed By UFC Las Vegas Show


(Sources inform us that the Octagon Girls for the UFC Japan show will be Chandella Powell, Rachelle Leah, and Hard Gay.)

So this is kinda weird. According to a new Yahoo! report, the UFC is planning to double-book themselves on the night of their February 26th return to Japan:

“When we go to Japan next year, we are going to be putting on a show at the same time in Las Vegas,” [Dana White] said…When asked how the company was going to handle a dual-show evening from a television standpoint, White just smiled and said, “You’ll see.”

Keep in mind that “you’ll see” may be code for “I have no fucking clue at this point.”

The UFC’s 2/26 Japan show is slated is kick off at 10 a.m. local time in order to have it sync up with the usual PPV start times in North America. Given the UFC’s new deals with FOX and Fuel, they certainly have the broadcast capabilities to pull off a simultaneous show in the States. The question is, why would they run simultaneous shows and risk splitting their audience? And considering that Burt Watson can’t be in two places at once, how can they pull it off logistically?

It’s impossible to guess what’s in DW’s head sometimes. Stay tuned.

Makes no sense to me to have two shows at the same time. Just start the show in Japan at a normal time for them instead of starting it at 10 AM.

@Gobbleston - it's taking place at 10am Japan time?? No.

Of course it's taking place at 10am US time, which is at night in Japan. That was my whole point - there's no conflict unless they were taking place simulatneously.

It seems to me the most obvious answer is that they will show big name Japanese Talent in Japan. Sexyama and some others will draw a big crowd in Japan. Probably sell out there. The Vegas show will probably sell on its own with Big US names. Then for PPV you air the Japanese fights while Vegas does undercard fights then switch to Vegas for the Main card while Japan closes the show. Any undercard fights are then shown after the Main Event like any other dark card, pre-taped.

It's called time zones, people. There's no conflict between the two unless one of them is taking place at like 9am.

MOre than likely they'll air separately (Japan on delay), or perhaps they'll play the Japan fights in between the live fights for the Vegas show.

I seem to remember Dana going on some kind of rant about how he plans to start having shows all over the damned place at the same time. I mean, as it is right now, like 3 UFCs per month are obviously not being purchased by people, right? Right? I mean, I know I'm not made of money. I can't speak for you people. So why not have them at the same time? And CP captcha? Hepatoma is not a word.

This is the same thing they do in boxing all the time. They actually just did it with the Mayweather fight the other weekend. Show all the preliminary fights somewhere else and then show the main event at a high profile place, basically double dipping. It worked for the Mayweather fight b/c they could sell out an entire show just for his fight, so they mind as well double up the attendance, not so sure it would work for the UFC yet.

obviously Dana White will be at the Las Vegas show and is going to announce at the start of the PPV that the 'Live' UFC in Japan is actually taped and that Mick Foley will be crowned heavyweight champion at the end of the night.

it seems pretty obvious that the UFC intends to save on airfare and not fly every preliminary fighter out to japan.
