‘UFC on Versus’ Weigh-In Results; Vera vs. Jones Staredown Gets Physical

Two notable moments came out of yesterday’s UFC on Versus: Vera vs. Jones weigh-ins at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. First off, James Irvin made his public debut at middleweight, and my God, I would kill for those cheekbones. Seriously, the phrase "cancer survivor" comes to mind. Also, Jon Jones got way up in Brandon Vera‘s face after they hit the scale. Dana White stepped in to separate the two so their forehead-jostling wouldn’t turn into something more serious. Jones explained his high emotions following the weigh-ins, telling Steve Cofield: "I just really don’t like Brandon as a person. I just think he’s disrespectful. I think he’s arrogant. I think he’s full of himself…I guess I let his arrogance get under my skin a little bit. It’s just a learning experience. In the future I’ll deal with talkers better."

Brandon Vera being involved in a fight of the year is about as likely as Tito having the flu and not some insane concoction of STD's running rampant through his system from his wife's oversized/overused box.

Jones by technical murder round 2.

After making Hamill look like the black dude from the epic beard man video and still losing, Jones is gonna be itchin to pound some face (legally this time). And Vera will move even closer to irrelevance. As long as I don't have to see his stupid celebration dance I will be happy.

Iunno, I think Vera clearly won that fight. If you just beat your idol in a great 3 round scrap, you'd probably be pretty upset after the decision was called. Lots of emotions going on in fights. I wouldn't blame Vera for acting a little disrespectful after that bogus decision.

That being said, I can't see a way Vera wins this fight. I enjoy his fights but he has lost that ruthless stand up he had in his first couple UFC fights @ heavyweight. This fight won't go well for him. But I like both guys, so if Vera somehow squeaks a win through, good for him.

It's going to be a great card with a lot of knockouts. That's the only certain thing.

BTW - I hope Irvin gains a lot of weight before his fight, motherfucker looked downright sickening in his weigh-in.

Irvin looks like he just came out on top if this season's Survivor. Did you see him opening up the sports drink as soon as he weighed in? It looked like he could not wait to chug that down. I think this wait cut will prove to be too much for him. What a shame. I was really hoping that this would be the beginning of something for him. Maybe there is still hope if he can finish it quick.

I lost what little bit of respect for Vera I had for him when he walked out of the cage after losing to Randy. The guy is funny, but a spoiled kid when it comes to grown-up stuff. How can you say Randy is your idol, your hero, then refuse to shake his hand after you lost to him. Idiot.

James Irvin - DAYUM! I don't know how to react to that. I can now see what he would look like if he had to be an emergency sub-in for Ghost Rider.

Jones looks like he's ready to eat Vera right there. Vera's gonna have to pull some magic out to get things to go his way here, but who knows what might happen in this crazy fight business, right?

Well that was odd. Didn't expect that from bones.

Vera's off the shelf canned ebonics is kinda irritating, but I dont know if I'd go so far as "disrespectful". All the kids are doing it.

I was already prepared for some top shelf action from these two, but it looks like it's going to be a burner no less.

Irvins weighin made me send 5 bucks to UNICEF.

He should change his name to bones and Jon Jones can be the Martian Manhunter.

FYI, commodo dragons have a deadly mouth full of killer infections. One bite and you are dead for life. Yes. Precisely that.

Don't count Vera out. His infection riddled gape-hole may have just shown us a crack in his bonesy opponent. It will most likely get shut during the fight, but never count the trash talker out, or the trash that comes out within the fight.

As for Irving...DARN! That guy needs some fluids, pronto!

Let's not forget: Having a little extra fat helps you take a punch to the midsection better. Let's see how Irvin fares against knees from the clinch.

Those kid's on the Christian Children's Fund look better then Irvin, although he still looks better then Swick.

It being Irvin's first fight at 185 makes me think he may not have a gas tank for this one.

Vera's inconsistent fake blaccent is grating on my nerves. It doesn't make him sound tough, it makes him sound like Justin Timberlake.

Jon Jones just set the tone for the fight. See how Vera reacted? He held up his hand and was like "Whoa buddy, calm down, I was joking". Brandon Vera is soft. Great technical fighter, but he doesn't have a killer instinct.

Jon Jones ferociousness surprises me, never seen that from him before, but it's good for him. It tells us that he's going to win this fight. Even if he breaks his hand. Or his rib. Or his arm. In Jones' mind, he's already decided the outcome of the fight and he'll do anything to achieve it.

And that's something that Vera can't do, it's just not in him. He'll be thinking, "It's okay if I lose, it sucks but oh well. I'll win the next fight."
