(Who can you count on in a jam? This guy.)
Remember that UFC event they’ve been planning for July 19? You know, the one they only started putting together recently, and which is purely by coincidence on the same day as Affliction’s MMA debut? Yeah, well, looks like it may actually happen. And it looks like the UFC is pulling out all the stops.
MMA Rated is now calling the July 19 event on Spike TV “official” and says it will be headlined by Anderson Silva making his light heavyweight debut against James Irvin.
What’s that you say? It’s totally insane for one of the sport’s pound-for-pound best to be pushed into moving up a weight class to face, of all people, James Irvin, on a show that is being thrown together a month in advance just to screw with Affliction? Yes, you’re right. Deal with it.
The initial story had Wanderlei Silva taking on Brandon Vera, who is said to be dropping to light heavyweight after his loss to Fabricio Werdum. And MMA Rated also reports that a rematch between Silva and Dan Henderson was considered. But Silva has reportedly turned down the fight because — get this — he doesn’t have enough time to prepare.
What? A last-minute offer to fight in a month on a hastily thrown together show doesn’t appeal to you, Wanderlei? Man, don’t make Dana White question your heart in the press again. He’s not above it.
Cain Velasquez is also said to be a candidate to fight on this show, which is expected to take place at the Palms in Vegas. The UFC is still looking for someone to face Brandon Vera at the time of this report, though the way this thing is going he could be signed to face BJ Penn by tomorrow morning.

I got a feeling that this will be "Dana Whites huge kick-ass announcement" Anyone else agree?

Sweet, sounds like it is a DEFINITE. SI.COM has an article today that says that Dana White confirms the July 19 show is a GO!!! What would make it even sweeter and make the AFFLICTION show have even lesser chances of breaking even: If Dana did what WWE and Vince McMahan did. Imagine if the UFC gave away free shit like money and shit from the UFC shop and tickets to future shows, etc, etc. That WOULD REALLY give a big FU and damper on AFFLICTION'S inaugural show!!!!!!! And would really kick ass for the fans!!!!

LOL... what those UFC fartknockers dont realize is that I have DVR... I will buy the Affliction card and record the UFC event. UFC = Fail
Mon, 06/16/08 - 10:32
Putting Silva in there against Irvin is a disgrace, Silva is going to crush him....I want to see Irvin try signature eyes closed superman punch on Silva....he is going to get demolished.....
Mon, 06/16/08 - 10:48
gea im down for watchin silva wamp on irvin for free. i think wanderlei and dan would be payperview quality but then again so would the spiders debut at light heavyweight. the ufc's just stuntn right now, thats all this is. they have so many quality fighters right now that they can throw together a ppv quality show in a month and play it for free. lol @ the icing on the ice cream. jesse taylor is a super-genius.

Irvin will get served... Affliction? Not so much...See Turd Ferguson's comment. Still, should be interesting to see how this all pans out. Now, where are my UFC action figures?
Tue, 06/17/08 - 02:40
MMAJunkie is also saying that Hermes Franca and Frankie Edgar are fighting along with Cain Velazquez (sp?) fighting someone. I can't wait to see Anderson start murdering people at LW.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 02:51
Holy crap its raining fights!!! This is a win win for the fans anyone who doesn't like this is a turd herder.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 03:16
dont care, affliction card is still 100x better than anything spike could put on.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 03:20
Call Tim Boetsch he fight on a 5 day notice
Tue, 06/17/08 - 03:28
Thats fucking killer. I always wanted to see him drop to 170 instead of gain weight. I wanted GSP to scissor kick his head off. Ohwell, I think chuck liddel vs anderson silva would be a good fight. Hopefully that happens.

I love that UFC is trying to steal afflictions thunder, but if UFC didn't even have a card for this night I guess I'm one of very few who ain't gonna watch the affliction show, cause I just don't care. Tim sylvia is a loser, and Fedor is a coward, and I couldn't care less who wins. They are not in the UFC........ they ain't shit. now UFC wants to give me a free show cause a buncha losers are fighting that night, well cool I'm down for a free show, no competition. I have watched all the other companys shows, they all suck monkey nuts. Im 100% UFC, screw these wannabees.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 05:58
teachbug, you are either really really retarded or a really bad troll
Tue, 06/17/08 - 09:39
@dandaman- it could be a combination. Myself, I would sit through a whole UFC PPV, I cant really watch the full 3 hour show of the other companies, that wont stop me from watching the fights just because it aint UFC. Some of the greatest fights in MMA history happened outside of the UFC. I wont miss that because of some retarded loyalty concept.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 10:58
sol: A perfect example of an AMAZING fight that happened outside the UFC would be Faber vs. Pulver. That fight was fucking epic. I agree, I think this stunt by UFC can ONLY be good for fans. The more competition we have out there, the more fights we get to see.. I'm gonna be pulling Turd Ferguson and buying the Affliction PPV and recording the UFC card. I think it's gonna be an excellent night gentlemen.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 12:25
C-Bus Allstar: The UFC owns the WEC, so technically that epic fight did not happen outside the UFC.
Tue, 06/17/08 - 12:41
exactly. But dont tell dandyman, he is to fucking stupid to know the difference, and hes to busy being an affliction nuthugger. because I have an opinion, and I dont want to watch second rate shows im a troll :) thats fucking rich! you know what else is rich? the UFC....and they put on a much better show, so fuck you dandYFAG.
Wed, 06/18/08 - 05:57
you are the extreme UFC nuthugger. you are labeled a troll for....well, trolling. you need to stop fishing for responses. do us all a favor and off yourself.
Wed, 06/18/08 - 12:57
hey look, its my very own douche bag, again. Its nice to have you fawn over me like this, but sadly "stalking" is a crime punishable by law, be careful little douche bag angel , you might end up pinned to a very big homosexual named Chip in prison. :)
Wed, 06/18/08 - 08:32
listen, all you ignorant morons. if you are saying UFC 100%, you don't know the first thing about martial arts! Affliction has the best card i have seen since PRIDE! I respect and admire the top athletes in the UFC, but they need a place that will treat them like the deserve, and they sure aren't getting that from dana white and zuffa. I say affliction all the way.
Wed, 06/18/08 - 08:35
by the way, since when did martial arts become the WWE????? no money give aways! keep it real. i mean come on.... we don't want mullets and tank tops at mma events.
