(If I have one regret in life, it’s that I was not able to rate the Cabbage vs. Tank fight more than ten Octagons.)
From a press release sent out by Spike:
In celebration of
UFC 100, Spike TV will present a 5-part special, highlighting the best 100 bouts in UFC history, as voted on by the fans. Voting will begin on May 1 on Spike.com (
Ultimate100.spike.com) where fans can choose their top 100 fights from an extensive list of bouts selected by the UFC and Spike TV.
Each episode of “UFC’s Ultimate 100: Greatest Fights” will count down the top 100 with action-packed moments from each contest. The first one-hour installment will premiere Sunday, July 5 at 9:00pm ET/PT, with the next three episodes airing Monday July 6-Wednesday, July 8 at 9:00pm ET/PT. The final episode airs Saturday, July 11 at 9:00pm ET/PT which will conclude a re-broadcast of the entire voted UFC bout.
To help make things easier, Spike and the UFC narrowed it down to 177 fights that you can vote on. But some of their selections are amazingly random. What kind of snot-nosed noob is going to rate Browning vs. Kaplan the most epic fight ever? (Don’t get any ideas, you jokers.) Cummo vs. Crocota? Christison vs. Imes? Who even remembers this shit? We might as well be allowed to vote on every UFC fight, ever. Anyway, your votes do count, so give it a look, and if you spot any notable omissions, let us know in the comments section.

Chri534 is a example of an MMA fan who defends Zuffa and Dana White's tendancies for being petty, lying assholes by saying from a "business standpoint".
Listen big business has been fucking the American public in the ass for years and the bullshit that they pull should be pointed out not defended."
Oh, I forgot, the Elite XC's business plan is a pretty good one too.
Liddell vs. Ortiz 1 was probably the most anticipated UFC fight I remember from the previous generation. I loved that.
Also, loved the Hughes vs. Trigg series.
And yes... I'm being serious. It would certainly be able to break into the high 60's or low 70's on my list.
Listen big business has been fucking the American public in the ass for years and the bullshit that they pull should be pointed out not defended.
From a business standpoint: Do you think the UFC should be trying to promote any fighters who have something that could be construed as a poor relationship with the organization?
Cry all you want, but it's not at all surprising and it does currently make sense from the viewpoint of the people putting on the show.
I also would have liked to see Hazelett's omoplata-switch-to-reverse-armbar on there. I mean, this list includes most of the best UFC knockouts, (where's Shane "The Engineer" Carwin by the way? --I say you notify him and keep that forum on the site for suggesting nicknames to find a new one; maybe run a contest or something...) so why not all of the best submissions as well?
And to the smart people on here questioning some of the omissions from the list: Yes, they're promoting UFC 100 by putting on a five part special called "UFC's Ultimate 100", and they're including fights from all mma organizations; especially trying to highlight fighters who have not been in the UFC or have left the UFC on bad terms (i.e.: not only Tito, but there are others such as Sobral that don't have any winning fights on there...I know it would never happen but I would like to see him try to choke a guy to death again; is there something wrong with that?).
If I flip on ESPN classic you know what they show? Games, fights, matches that have players that no longer play for the league in question. And you know what else? Some of them didn't leave ceremoniously when they retired. Some of them got kicked the fuck out like Pete Rose. But they're still going to show him because he was a major contributor to the sport.
No doubt fighters are getting into the Octagon and wailing it out, but lately, the UFC has begun to lean a little to heavy on professional-wrestling style drama instead of doing as they preach, and treating MMA as a great sport in which they've contracted some of the finest practitioners in the world.
If Strikeforce can stay as entertaining as the last show, now might be the time for the UFC to take notice that the most entertaining fights are, more often than not, the ones that actually have lesser experienced, or lesser skilled guys fighting it out for their chance at glory. Scott Smith and Radach aren't going to be kicking top tier UFC ass, but that didn't make that fight any less awesome to watch.
And the same goes for Diaz vs Shamrock. The UFC can only hope their Silva v Griffin freak show goes as planned. It's one fight fans find compelling that could decisively screw up the marketability of either guy. Knocking Irvin out is one thing. Knocking your poster boy out is a whole 'nother.
No marks on Diaz you say? Because Guida was making sweet, sensual, love.
and Maia has some sweet submissions that would crack a top 100 and they're not on there.
Babalu is another one. The only fights listed are 3 losses instead of a couple of the crazy fights he had, because he's another crazy--almost always entertaining--fighter.
Hey, and fuck you two Nate Marquardt, because you ain't getting shit on this list either. Because I mean, why would you want one of the two contenders actually having a top 100 fight.
I'm annoyed...I'm going to bed.
The only Nick Diaz fights they even left were ones he lost.
nick diaz vs robbie lawlor
I think those should've been on the list ,.. just my opinion though.
