Ultimate Fight Night 15 Weigh-In Report

Ah, beautiful Omaha, Nebraska. Where any mention of the Cornhuskers is enough to work a crowd into a frenzy. I just returned from the Ultimate Fight Night 15 weigh-in, which was fairly uneventful except for the odd fact that every single fighter weighed in precisely on the mark. Every middleweight hit 185 on the button. Every lightweight, 155 exactly. You get the picture. It was eerie. Makes you wonder if the athletic commission here isn’t just phoning it in. One guy who seemed a bit nervous about the whole thing was Clay Guida, who stepped on the scale as if he were trying to sneak up on it. Maybe his brother’s troubles have him worried.

But the most interesting thing to happen at the weigh-in had nothing to do with the fighters on Wednesday night’s card. Before things got underway, Matt Hughes answered questions from the fans who arrived early. He talked at length about how good Robbie Lawler is, how he wouldn’t advise Lawler to fight Anderson Silva, but would like to see him face Georges St. Pierre, whose stand-up game is not as good as Lawler’s, according to Hughes.

“I know I want to see that fight,” he said. “I wouldn’t even want to corner Robbie. I’d just want to sit on the side and watch.”

But then, when the Q&A session was over, Hughes asked for a couple extra minutes on the mic. He said that he often gets asked about his most memorable story in the fight game, and then proceeded to share, unprompted, a tale from his “pre-Christian” days.

It seems Hughes was down in New Orleans and on Bourbon Street with Pat Miletich and some of the boys after a fight. He and Miletich got into a drinking contest, chugging beers out on the street with both fists. They had just finished slamming a couple and were walking down the street when Miletich stopped and bent over to puke in the street. Then he walked a couple steps, puked some more, then kept going, stopped, and puked some more. At some point, Miletich looked over at Hughes and pointed to the gaping space where his false teeth should be. Pat Miletich, MMA great, had just realized that he puked out his false teeth.

So what did he do? He walked back and sifted through each pile of vomit until he found them. And when he found them? He poured beer on them, put them back in his mouth, and kept going.

If you still care about the official weigh-in results after that, they’re after the jump:

Dan Miller (185) vs. Rob Kimmons (185)
Mike Massenzio*(185) vs. Drew McFedries (185)
Jason Brilz (205) vs. Brad Morris (205)
Kyle Bradley (155) vs. Joe Lauzon (155)
Ryan Jensen (185) vs. Wilson Gouveia (185)
Joe Vedepo (185) vs. Alessio Sakara (185)
Eric Schafer (205) vs. Houston Alexander (205)
Alan Belcher (185) vs. Ed Herman (185)
Clay Guida (155) vs. Mac Danzig (155)
Josh Neer (155) vs. Nathan Diaz (155)

* When Massenzio was introduced, Joe Rogan appeared so bewildered by his last name that it became immediately clear that he had no idea who this person was. Should be interesting to see if he figures it out in time for tomorrow night’s broadcast on Spike TV.

For the record, my post was a joke. I thought that was apparent, but I guess I need to clarify. Hughes was a bad-ass as a fighter, but he is a complete assface as a person.
Davey D is a fucking douche- September 16, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I took an internet tough guy class, so I know that's what Davey D is. All talk, no action, runs his mouth on the web like those he claims to despise. He also has a tiny penis, his mom is a whore and his sister gives awesome head.

Anyways.... I always liked hughes in his earlier, dominating days when he still had some class and wasn't a full blown carpenter sheep. Now he is delusional, but I guess that describes all christians. Well, I guess that describes all religion. BTW, Hitler had some great submissions, but the ground and pound from the US was too much for him.

Hey, everybody. Miletich fished his Roebuckers out of a pile of puke! Oh, what were we talking about?
mayhem420- September 16, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Soooo Matt wants Robbie to fight GSP? Matt knows that Robbie got KTFO by Nick Diaz.... right? Yet some how GSP is going to lose to Lawler? Ha HA!
Wow every time he talks Matt just sounds more and more like a bitch.
LukeTheDuke- September 16, 2008 at 12:16 pm
HEY EVERYONE: I wanna see Jeff Daly vs Matt Hughes II and see if this cyber tough guy can fight as good as he can talk shit. Lets set it up.
sol- September 16, 2008 at 12:13 pm
internet commenters aren't allowed to bitch? If you did'nt just say that on the internet it wouldn't be as stupid.

Like Operator said, we're not criticising his ability to fight, we are criticising his ability to whine.

"yes i'll have the 185lb. guy who is a champion in another company fight the champion from the UFC! Oh, what's that? No, no, no, no, not their 185 lb. oh gosh no, I meant their 170lb. champion"

Right on Jeff Daly! I remember that, I was there..... it was right after I videotaped Sasquatch, chupacabra, and little green men from Mars. I can remember it as if it were yesterday. You're so hardcore dude, I just wish I was as badass as you!

Sounds like Davey did some training and got himself a superiority complex. Unless somebody is criticizing matt hughes on his game as a fighter then I don't see the big deal. If he is gonna act like a whiney bitch about his loss GSP then fuck him cuz it's his personality that brings it out in people not what he has done as a fighter.

@Davey D + Farthammer

A fan doesn't become a fan solely on the achievements and abilities of the athletes they follow. You choose to be a fan based on the people you see as role-models. We can all say that Hitler actually ran his country well. He held a lot of power and the masses followed him. However, he was a complete fuck up in the head and we realized that. Do you see my reasoning? So if you come off as an "arrogant prick" and you "call out (unprovoked) the guy who beat you down twice" then you deserve criticism. That doesn't mean that you can't be a Matt Hughes fan. It just means you choose who to be a fan of based on whatever desirable qualities you choose. And you choose to hate people for their undesirable qualities.

Honestly, I hate the way Quinton Jackson can't man up to a loss. He just bashed on Forrest the entire time after losing. Then in the video documentary of the first 10 years of Pride, he talks about his loss to Sakuraba. He said something about how he wasn't at 100% during the fight he was around 60% and would accept a rematch any day. That sounds a like a true sore loser to me.

PS - I'm not really much of a Hughes fan, but he does come off as a sore loser sometimes. He seems like he's slowly realizing he lost his prime. But what's to be expected of a former champion with his credentials?
The dude- September 16, 2008 at 6:28 am
well if you're ugly and dumb like nate what are you to do? Fighting is perfect. Doesn't have to worry about getting uglier or dumer as a result.
Jeff Daly- September 16, 2008 at 6:03 am
I had a street fight with Matt Hughes in 2001 in Arkansas after a circuit show. I beat that little geek so bad he couldn't breath.
Farthammer- September 16, 2008 at 3:13 am
I agree with Davey D. If you are a mixed martial artist, you are immediately above reproach and cannot be criticized. Even if you come off like an arrogant prick everytime you are on TV like Hughes, internet commenters cannot make fun of you. Even if you call out (unprovoked) the guy who beat you down twice, and claim you were bored at his fight and walked out, then later claim you never said that even though it was on one can make fun of you.
Craig- September 16, 2008 at 3:07 am
davey d,

when a fighter is as stupid as matt hughes OPENS his trap about a guy who not only beaten him BUT DESTROYED HIM, the fans have a right to call his punk ass on it, PERIOD!!

MATT get over the fact that u got OWNED!!!
Davey D- September 16, 2008 at 2:20 am
Geez, the disrespect ya'll have for fighter's is unbelievable. I highly suggest each and everyone of you to take a class in BJJ, Muay Thai, or just basic MMA if at all possible for 3 months. Then say what you will about MMA fighter's. If can't respect them then then you don't respect yourself.

If they piss you off so much don't pay attention to detail and waste your breathe. MMA is a better off without fake ass fan's who claim to be in the know but are just flat out hater's. Be cool.

butthole macheesemo is matt hughes
Juan Blanco- September 16, 2008 at 1:00 am
Hey Matt! Was it God that told you Robbie could beat GSP? Wow, Georges really knocked something loose up there pal... You suck!!!
Old, Bald and Irish- September 16, 2008 at 12:17 am
Ditto to Hughes being hung up on GSP. Memo to Matt:

"Nobody cares about you and GSP anymore. Let. It. Go."

Awesome Miletich story. That guy must be Irish.

Rogan got the name wrong because he's as high as a kite. If he had spent more time rolling on the mat instead of rolling joints he probably would have gotten his black belt in half the time.

Joe Rogan + Rape Choke = Awesome

The last ones the best....

sorry matt

u piece of shit
Leo Laporte- September 15, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Hughes really plays that sore loser card so well.
who cares- September 15, 2008 at 11:53 pm
matt is washed up and done. he should at least have respect for the current champion that beat him not once but twice.watta joke
TUF Guy- September 15, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Nate Diaz should do commercials for dog food.
TUF Guy- September 15, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Matt Hughes is a homo. I hear he loves to teach his fighters how to submit from the back but he never actually chokes them out... he just wrestles them for like 2 minutes, gets a mini seizure and then exhales loudly.
balls- September 15, 2008 at 11:18 pm
How long do you think Houston Alexander will last this time? The dude honestly is shitty apart from his power he really has nothing.
Pow- September 15, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Matt Hughes is so hung up on GSP.. Desperate to see him lose, even throwing the fighters he trains at him..
captain asshammer- September 15, 2008 at 11:03 pm
that pat miletich story is fucking hardcore. if only a baby had picked up his teeth and pat axe kicked it. that is the only way this story could be better
