Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale Aftermath: Bonuses, Undercard Results + More

(Diaz and Stevenson earned $25,000 Fight of the Night bonuses and contracts with Cirque Du Soleil. Photo courtesy of UFC.com.)
For the first time in the organization's history, the UFC handed out three Fight of the Night bonuses for last night's Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale show, giving $25,000 bumps to Joe Stevenson, Nate Diaz, Chris Lytle, Kevin Burns, Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida for their thrilling three-rounders. But that doesn't mean the UFC skimped on its other traditional bonuses: Tomasz Drwal pocketed the $25,000 Knockout of the Night bonus for his knee-and-punches KO of Mike Ciesnolevicz during the undercard, and TUF 9's Jason Dent scored the Submission of the Night bonus for sinking on an anaconda choke at the end of the first round of his fight with Team U.S.A. rival Cameron Dollar, after getting beaten up standing for much of the round. Speaking of the prelims, here's how they turned out:
- Jason Dent def. Cameron Dollar via submission (anaconda choke), 4:46 of round 1
- Nick Osipczak def. Frank Lester via submission (rear-naked choke), 3:40 of round 1
- Tomasz Drwal def. Mike Ciesnolevicz via TKO, 4:48 of round 1
- Brad Blackburn def. Edgar Garcia via split-decision
- Melvin Guillard def. Gleison Tibau via split-decision
Blackburn's questionable decision win was booed by the 1,800 fans in attendance at the Pearl, and Guillard's win was even harder to figure out, as he spent most of his fight against Tibau getting taken down.
— During an "Inside the Octagon" segment on last night's TUF 9 Finale broadcast, Dana White mentioned that he'd like to set up a middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and former UFC light-heavyweight champ/current Affliction middleweight Vitor Belfort. Affliction boss Tom Atencio has confirmed that Belfort's upcoming clash with Jorge Santiago at "Trilogy" is the last fight on his contract.

Kirky Says:
Good night of fights, Joe daddy shoudnt get a penny for his lay n pray bullshit. The Guida/Sanchez fight was alot more competetive than I thought aswell.
Geriatric Peon Says:
I think it was bull shit for Guida to get enough credit to make it close enough for a split decision. He got owned in the stand up (obviously) but he did nothing on the ground except for live up to his name of the energizer blanket. Sanchez did more damage on the ground than the caveman did.
DangadaDang Says:
Everyone should be on the lookout for Thmas Drwal, dudes a beast
and anyone who thinks the Stevenson/Diaz fight was lay n pray and not a technical grappling exhibition can suck one
shitbag Says:
You are a fucking idiot. If you can't appreciate or understand the skillset that Joe daddy displayed, you are a fucking idiot. What lay and pray? You fucking douchebag idiot - you don't even reconize BJJ.
Truth2Pwr Says:
-If Guida ever does get to be champ, he'll never be dethroned. That guy was made for 5 round wars. Huerta was the only guy who's ever been able to finish him, and if you gave Guida 5 rounds to wear dudes out, nobody would ever decision him again.
The only difference between defeat and victory for him vs Sanchez was another round or 2 to make up for getting 10-8 in the first. Even so, I gave him the last 2 rounds and would have called it a draw. I don't care what the judges or rankings say. If I could choose from any 155er to have my back in a dark alley, i wouldn't even have to think about it. I want Clay Guida all the way!
-I would love to see Belfort return and fight Silva. I consider him to be the first truly great striker in MMA. Back in his youth, when he would remove the safety and pull the trigger on his full-auto flurries, the ferocious combination of speed and power with full torso and shoulder rotation on every shot was the mythical template that I aspired to in my stand-up training. There was simply nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide once he got an opponent stunned. It was almost like rigor mortis set in after the 1st or 2nd shot and their paralyzed muscles were just holding them up for more punishment after that. Bring back VITOR!
reddog Says:
^^^
totally agree. if you think joe daddy didnt show some awesome shit, you are a complete tool. he owned one of the best 155 ground fighters out there, in convincing style. he hasnt always fared that well, and handed diaz only his second ufc loss. multiple crucifix situations???? un-freakin-believable!! yet another good night of fights.
Diaz/guida rd1 was one of the best 5 mins of fighting i have ever witnessed. hands down. and what judge scored for guida? he won one round, maybe. he recieved more damage on top every time he pulled out the blanket mode. his cromagnon hair was stained red.
i dont even want to add up my points for this night. it might be in single digits. holy underdog.
reddog Says:
i was agreeing with shitbag btw, i totally disagree with truth. and belfort will probably be another former star who is now relegated to washout status in the ufc. although look at shoguns weak shit, and they are giving him the next shot at a title. he couldnt even make three rounds with coleman! totally gassed.
ReDx Says:
Anybody else find it odd that they were advertising for Fight Night Round 4? That's competition for UFC: Undisputed
Sheps Says:
Yeah ReDx, MMA and boxing are two different sports ya tard, if anything the only reason its confusing is because Fight Night is a EA game, and soon enough EA will be in competition with THQ with their new MMA game.
Yeah whoever dissed Joe Daddy is an outright retard, he went out there and imo looked like the best Joe Stevenson any of us has ever seen. Nick Diaz ain't no slump and Joe easily dominated him.
@Reddog, Belfort is anything BUT a washout, watch his last fight with Lindland, he almost killed him.
ReDx Says:
Tard? That's funny. Just because they are different sports means they can't be competition? They are both fighting games. Fans of the sports will care about the difference but when it comes down to gamers, they could care less. They will play the better game and EA has always put out quality games.
So by your logic about them being different sports, if there was a boxing PPV and a UFC PPV on the same night they wouldn't be competing for viewers because they are different sports. Right? I'm just trying to make sense of it because I'm the tard and all. Fucking moron....
ScrambledEggs Says:
reddog sucks his own dick.
Sheps Says:
I'm both an MMA fan and Boxing fan, I'm buying both because I love both sports.
Only tard logic could ask, "Why are they promoting the MLB at an NFL game?!"
Boxing fans would watch a boxing PPV
MMA fans would watch a MMA PPV
fans of both like myself would evaluate the cards and watch the better one. There is no competition, they are targetting two different audiences... ya tard.
Johnny B Says:
Round 1 of Stevenson/Diaz was exciting, but after that it tapered off. I thought Joe did a lot of leaning on Nate and it looked like Joe was more worried about being in a dominant position than finishing the fight. I was pretty bored during rounds 2 and 3.
ReDx Says:
Your tard logic makes no sense. I've never seen cross advertisements in major sports. They promote themselves, not each other. It would make no sense for MLB to promote at a NFL game, no marketing department for any team would ever do that. Of course people are going to make the selection that they want, that's not what the question is.
Different audiences? Its boxing and MMA, both are fighting. MLB and the NFL are different audiences. To say Fight Night and UFC are not competition is obsurd. So would you say that Tekken and Street Fighter are not competition?
You missed the point of what I was saying, if there would two events, obviously you'd choose which one you wanted to watch, but you would never see the MMA card promoting the boxing event. They'd be promoting themselves. Thats why it makes no sense that UFC would be promoting a boxing game.
ReDx Says:
I got it, maybe I should relate it to things that go on in your everyday life..You're working the burger station at Burger King, we know you feel like the shit because you just got your promotion from the fry station, and your manager comes in and wants you to wear a McDonalds name tag.
Fucklord Says:
Stevenson opted to lnp to the best of his abilities because he realized he has bills to pay and if he tried to actually fight he would get clowned by Nate so why not lie on people and collect checks for it. It's the UFC way.
Stockton Bitches 209
ScrambledEggs Says:
ReDx must feel better now that he's so brilliantly revealed to everyone that he thinks you're a piece of shit if you go to work and make an honest living.
So many people think how much money someone has defines who they are as a person.
Know Wonder society is in the shitter.
ReDx Says:
So its bad that I say he works at Burger King but its not bad that he calls me a "tard" because I think its odd that UFC would advertise a boxing game? Also look at your reply to reddog, just because he voiced his opinion, you say he can suck his own dick, that's real grown up, if you're so concerned about how other people are why don't you grow up also? Little bit of a double standard there.
I also have no problem with people in fast food, I worked in fast food when I was in high school when I was young and dumb, then I went to college to better myself. Shep was giving his one sided opinion and showing how much a child he was by insulting to try to prove his point so I just went down to his level.
PurplePickle Says:
Vitor Muthafuckin' Belfort! I was hoping his run in Affliction would get him back in the UFC. I have been a big fan of his since his destruction of Ferrazo and Tank way back. Belfort probably won't dethrone the Spider, but it will be cool to see him in the UFC MW mix. Wanderlei, Bisping, Leben would all make for good fights with Vitor.
PaulO Says:
They need to redo the judge's scoring. They need to change it to:
- Damage (Marcus Davis should not have had it in his head he might have won that fight vs Hardy)
- Continued aggression (Screw feeling out and elusive)
- Attempts to finish (takedowns are worthless if you don't attempt to submit or do damage which can also be done from the bottom)
lilgary Says:
Nate Diaz needs to spend less time trying to be a thug and more time getting strong because he gets manhandled by stronger fighters. The last two fights have proven that he has a lot of work to do before being considered an elite fighter. Better win your next fight, son.
CreamyTitties Says:
I became a stevenson fan after this fight. His repeated flip takedown with the kimura locked on was great (adding that to my game), and the crucifix was great he almost pulled off the one handed choke from there. Diaz played a smart game taking a knee so he couldn't get hit in the head, but that was a major strike of intentional inactivity against him. Great technical JJ fight
Sho Nuff Says:
If you weren't entertained by Stevenson/Diaz, you are watching the wrong sport. Boxing is more your speed. You see, in MMA, fighters can grapple. And fans of MMA enjoying watching two highly skilled grapplers/jits fighters going at it in a technical match.
Despite the way the decision went, can Diego really become more of a douchebag? Is it possible? Or has his total douchebaggery peaked? From his ridiculous entrance rituals, to his stupid destiny/jesus interviews, to his choice of entrance music (who the fuck are you to come out to We Will Rock You? You've never even been champion, you fucking egomaniac) - someone needs to beat him badly. Maybe Kenny can get his revenge after beating up BJ.
Dana White Says:
The return of LNP gg the fighters think just cuz they get the WIN think they can keep there jobs in the UFC NOT.
mayhem Says:
3 Awesome fights!
Joe Daddy and Nate put on a BJJ clink with that fight.
Clay shut down all of Diego's sub attemps which is why he couldnt do much from the top... stop saying it was lay and pray cause it wasnt. Deigo owned him on the stand up, which is why he won the fight. Tuff one to score thats for sure.
Chris Lytle is just at the point were he wants to put on exciting fights, which he is doing just that!
I see alot of lay and pray comments... none of those fights had it. I mean lay and pray is just holding one dude down while doing nothing else. I didnt see that at all last night. Clay was throwing elbows and punches while shutting down Deigo's subs. Joe Daddy was doing the same thing and trying to sub Nate at the same time. Glad they all got fight of the night bounses!
Than Says:
The move Stevenson has Diaz in is called a spladle. It's a wrestling move, but to really complete the move he would have needed to trap Nate's other arm (obviously because he didn't because he was throwing strikes). It is one of the most demoralizing positions to put someone in.
just some dong Says:
Kenny beating up BJ... hahaha never.
831 Son Says:
You guys wanna fight? That will settle it.
prodigy2k7 Says:
Wow, those were some impressive fights. I was way off on some picks, not so much on others. Stevenson looked really good. I would like to see him fight Guida now. The first min of the Sanchez fight is one on the best opening min I have ever seen. Can he beat Kenny again?
Also just finished watching the undercard. I think Tibau was robbed. Even if you lose the first two rounds, a third round domination like Tibau gave Melvin should have one the fight. Melvin looked a lot more focused though. Also, I thought Cameron Dollar looked really sharp. His striking is sick. Why did he shoot? Why did he shoot?
Judo Im Right Says:
Am I the only one that saw Lytle tap in the first round?! He clearly tapped. O Well, he's still the man and I did pick him to win. So, I'm glad Herb let it go, even though he clearly wanted out of that fight at the end of the first.
prodigy2k7 Says:
I thought I saw that to. Wanted to rewind it but the fight was to fuckin good.
Judo Im Right Says:
Yea, 55 seconds left in the first Lytle taps. Glad my man Herb missed that, cause that was a war! and I don't know if I could have handled another wrong pick after going with Diaz and Winner. Pretty cool Dana gave all of the some extra scratch with FoN bonuses
Meohfumado Says:
Seriously, I thought the Stevenson v Diaz fight was awesome. Didn't look like lay and pray to me...but I don't mind technical grappling so whatever...
As far as promoting Fight Night...its a video game. Video game publishers like EA are dying to get ads in UFC shows because its their core demographic (18-35 year old males with discretionary income). The UFC/Spike have no reason to try to stifle the advertising. One...UFC Undisputed has already made bank (top seller in May, and vid-game sales rarely have longevity...sales drop 70% or more in the second month usually), and two...it's MONEY!!! They don't have a habit of turning those ad dollars down, particularly when it is usually a bidding war between video game companies to get those ads (Activision had Prototype ads for UFC 99...so EA stepped up here and laid down the cash for Fight Night).
In addition, most surveys have shown that the majority of players who are into the fighting-game genre are going to buy both games...so the direct competition vs the UFC game isn't exactly an issue either.
TheZa Says:
I also saw that shit. It looked like he was trying to tap but then he got hit and his hand flew through the fucking air.
Judo Im Right Says:
Check for yourself, Tapped at 55 seconds left.

831 Son Says:
WOW. You guys are fucking morons. It wasnt a tap or even an attempt of a tap. You idiots he didnt even put his hand to the ground. He waved his hand in front of his face to block punches then he got up. In no way, shape or form did he tap. So glad you guys arent gonna be a ref.
Retards.
reddog Says:
i never knew my dick would be a topic of interest on CP.
its a lengthy subject
One Two Says:
so whos up first to take andersons belt hendo or vitor?
NECROPHYTE Says:
So wtf? All of a sudden Vitor's back in the UFC ready to compete with the likes of Spider Silva? What's going on with that?
BackbaconBilly Says:
Lytle tapped,lol NOT!
Good night of fights, glad to see Vitor may be coming back to the UFC, he doesn't deserve a shot right away at Silva but he isn't far away either.
ArmFarmer Says:

"fans of both like myself would evaluate the cards and watch the better one. There is no competition, they are targetting two different audiences... ya tard."
Anyone else notice how incredibly fucking retarded this statement is? Someone hand this dude a dictionary and help him look up the word competition.
