[VIDEO] Believe it or Not, Ben Henderson CAN Be Submitted

(Hey Donald, you let me know when you’re gonna stop armbarring me like my little sister. Sound good?)

I did something terrible this morning, Potato Nation. After waking up with blood on my hands and a splitting hangover beneath an underpass I did not recognize, I was forced to stumble across five miles of snow covered wasteland, wearing only one shoe mind you, to make it home. I fired up my computer to find a video of newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson competing in the 7th Arizona Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu International Open awaiting my viewership. In need of a pick me up, I watched it, figuring that there was no way in hell my boy “Smooth” would be submitted by this Daniel Grippaudo sumbitch, because, let’s be honest, Henderson CANNOT be submitted. We all know the first round anaconda loss to Rocky Johnson that soils his record was made up to prevent 155-pound grapplers from committing mass suicide. There is no “Rocky Johnson.” There never was.

Anyway, after watching the video that rests just a mere paragraph away, I proceeded to run to the nearest elementary school, steal the microphone from the principal, and inform those listening to the morning announcements that Santa was in fact a lie. Do I feel bad about it? Surely, but the point I was trying to make is simple: give up hope. The boundaries of life are disintegrating before our very eyes. Nothing is real anymore; Santa, your parents, Jesus, none of it. If it turns out that the following video is not, as I suspect, a complete fabrication, then I hold these truths to be self-evident.

Watch at your own risk.

@ArmFarmer - The guy in the black gi did something illegal, so the ref gave him a warning (raising the fist). Considering that the ref restarted the match on stand up after the break, it seems likely that the guy most likely had a illegal grip as he took Henderson down into his guard. I can't tell from this vid, but it's most likely something like 4 fingers hooking from inside the sleeve, which is not allowed.

Henderson won bronze I think at the 2011 bjj mundials at brown belt

Like taco said, he didn't want to risk an injury so he tapped quick. Also, it's not like he can just start pounding the guy like he would in an MMA match.

@Flatt2u - you see that a lot at gi competitions.

Why did the ref restart them after the guy pulled gaurd? And why do they look so confused and hesitant right after the td?

looks like the shoulder lock mir used to finish pete williams(?); nice catch. i'm sure it was made easier by the combination of a gi and not getting punched in the face, but you can't take anything away from dude - he tapped a beast of a fighter.

The ref just dragging two people around in the background kinda tripped me out. I had to go back & look again. (1 minute mark)

if you guys want no gi, we have it:
Sean Roberts Submitting Ben Henderson:

Doesn't really matter, gi or nogi, if we talk about BJJ, Bendo is good but not even close on being the LW champ. He will be submitted as long as he fight good grapplers in this kind of tournaments. (wich is a good thing).

Anyway, props to Bendo for competing "outside" his area.

Cue butt-hurt gi only guys....
blaphtome- March 9, 2012 at 9:09 am
You may be right on that, but I would add that gi and no gi are two completely different games. That guy likely couldn't have even set that up if the two had been shirtless. Gaining that kind of control from guard in MMA is a whole different animal.

In all truthfulness, I think Bendo tapped quickly because he doesn't want any chance of being injured. If it was a fight in the UFC, he wouldn't have tapped and escaped that arm bar to go on and beat the crap out of his opponent.
