Video: Bobby Lashley Wins MMA Debut

(Props: MMA Madness)

Former WWE star and American Top Team student Bobby Lashley made his pro MMA debut at Mixed Fighting Alliance’s "There Will Be Blood" event in Miami on Saturday night, needing just 41 seconds to open up a cut on opponent Joshua Franklin’s forehead large enough for the fight to be stopped. It was an anti-climactic ending for the audience, but when the gash is shown at the video’s 1:52 mark, you’ll probably agree that it was the right thing to do. Maybe next time Lashley will be able to give fans a better sense of what he’s capable of.

Headlining the MFA event was a fight between former UFC stars Jeff Monson and Ricco Rodriguez, with Monson pulling out a unanimous decision win. The Snowman is reportedly considering a move back to the UFC — and may face Cheick Kongo in his return match — but will first head to Japan for a fight in Sengoku. Rodriguez’s loss to Monson snapped a five-fight winning streak; he has fought nine times in 2008, making this year the most active of his career. Video of the Monson/Rodriguez fight is after the jump.

I think he already has better striking than Lesnar. Probably because He doesn't train alone in the middle of nowhere Minnesota.

Wonder how many more wrestling stars will make the jump.

Lesnar did move his camp to 'the middle of nowhere' for his last fight, but there are some good fighters in MN. Roger Huerta, Brock Larson, and Sean Sherk. Lesnar needs to hook up with any of them and combine camps. Everyone would benefit.

B, not entirely true, he trains with Sean Sherk, the striking pride of the midwest.

Who the hell is commentating. Bandage a cut in the middle of a fight? What are you high?

Both Lashley and Lesnar were real wrestling athletes before being fake wrestling stars. WWE tends to do like UFC and offer big money to wrestling champions in hopes of having "semi-legit" stars on their shows. But most guys are now seeing the money and fame in MMA and will probably choose that over the crazy travel and relatively low profit that WWE gives them.

I hate to see fights end that soon on a cut... but when a vagina springs to life on your face it's time to call it a night.

I would have bet anything Monson would have walked out to Rage Against the Machine. Too bad Vegas had no line on it.

Lashley hasn't beaten anyone other than a guy making his own MMA debut. That's fine, but hold the praise until he gets to a stage in his career where he fights someone decent. Maybe he will be just as good, or better, than Lesnar. But now... we simply have no idea.

Looks like someone forgot to tell Lashley that razor blades aren't used in MMA to open up foreheads.

If Lashley builds up a record or proves himself and gets invited to the UFC that could create a possibility of a pretty cool match up between him and Lesnar. UFC 117 - Mighty Joe Young vs. Shrek

I've seen Lashley train at ATT, and this guy is gonna make it. Humble, strong as an ox, and is quickly picking up his striking ability. Would be worth it to see him vs. Brock in the future

is anyone sitting next to him thinking like why da fuck is he talking to himself while filming the fight when your not suppose to even have a video recorder on you. I just wanna drop kick this guy in the mouth

Lashley caused the cut hitting his opponent with a steel chair while his manager distracted the referee.

they dont need to make a super heavy weight div all they need to do is make a cursier weight divison or something so the lighter heavy weights like gabe gonzoga or randy coture can fight guys there own size
  25. tyler Says:

    Mon, 12/15/08 - 06:29

It's cruiserweight not cursier and it's Gabe Gonzaga not gonzoga also Gonzaga weighs over 250lbs. I don't think he would fit in a cruiserweight division if there was one.

I don't give a fuck about nothin! I'm lovin our sport right now fellas!! I wouldn't give a fuck if they had Lashley fight Corey Hill.....with the broken leg!!! We've been spoiled the last couple years with the most perfect match ups, rematches, and superfights you could ask for. Boxing can't give you this kind of consistent excitement. Not only that, but think about the fights that are ALREADY scheduled to happen that you know will be KICK ASS!!!! MMA still isn't even half as big as it's going to be. I can't wait to see what 2009 brings. Peace boys.
