Video: Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva Talk UFC 117 Bout

The UFC is turning up the marketing machine for next month’s UFC 117 match-up between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen with the usual pre-fight interview videos.

They seem to be emphasizing the golden tongue of Sonnen, whose seemingly stepped-up smack talking has eclipsed pretty much every fighter in the game these days.

What may be surprising to many is that Chael didn’t develop his proclivity for spewing quoteworthy lines overnight.


UFC.com’s Thomas Gerbasi chronicled some of Chael’s greatest hits in a recent article, demonstrating why Sonnen enjoyed moderate success thus far in his career in politics.

@Bas Natty - Sonnen beat Nate MarkWart, who was arguably the best contender at MW. Maybe he didn't finish him, and maybe he got the shit pounded out of his face in the process, but he won. And Marquardt is a BJJ black belt. So, while I don't think Chael deserved the shot against MMarquardt, he did earn his shot against Anderson and I think he has a chance.

That said, I still love Anderson, silly antics aside, and am super mega ultra hyper pumped for this fight.

I cant believe some of you are even giving credit to Chael for his fight hyping/shit talking!! He really isnt that good at it and much like a politician he contradicts himself and doesnt really think about what he is saying. Even in the short clip above he says Silva never really beat any quality opponents, then in the same breath says SIlva hurt some of his friends, and that pisses Chael off. So your "friends" are not quality fighters and it pisses u off to see them get beat but its okay to imply that they suck at fighting? Eat a dick at a Republican Gala.

This all kind of reminds me of the movie, "The Great White Hype," except instead of the UFC hyping Sonnen for Raitings, Sonnen is hyping himself. But like the movie, many fans are jumping on the band wagon of the hype and begin hating on the Champ, who in the movie is not and hasn't taken his fights serious. Skip to the end of the movie and the Hype get KTFO in a few seconds in the first round. It would be great if after the fight the TRUE #1 contender (Belfort) jumps in the ring and knocks the champ out.

Chael talks a good game to stir up hype for his own execution, knowing he has nothing to offer. Its known in the MMA community as "pulling an Ortiz" or "Ortizing" and sometimes "clown fudging"

Does all the Silva hating stem from his dancing around and not fighting in his last couple of fights? Is that all it is? I mean i'll be the first to say that it is absolutely rediculous and that it is getting old but at the same time I cant forget all the asses he kicked before. In my opinion, he is acting like a genius in special ed math class, acting out because he is bored and not challenged. Give Silva someone that he respects and is a threat and i think will see a competely different fighter.

I wish for those wanting Silva to lose would just admit that Sonnen will NOT be the one to beat him. Seriously get a fucking clue. There has been NO ONE Sonnen has beat in Silva's calibur. Sonnen hasn't finished ANYONE in UFC caliber. For people to want Silva to lose is fine but to think Sonnen has a chance is a slap in the face to the entire MMA community and fan base. For the asswipe that said Silva only beats people who couldn't remain in the UFC I'm pretty sure Sonnen's punk ass was in the UFC before and left to get his ass whooped by scrubs. Any response to that? Please let me hear what you have to say about that. I implore you, any Sonnen fan please engage, so I can know what makes a fuckstick say this will be the end of Silva.

I just think that Chael got extremely lucky with who he faced...beating Okami and Marquardt. Guys he matched up well against. As soon as Chael gets put against a solid submission artist, the man starts tappin like Gregory Hines. So basically as long as Anderson brings in the noise and brings in the funk....he should decimate Sonnen. For cereal though...after this fight...give Silva Belfort...and then unleash him on the lhw division so he actually tries again.

Coma, couldn't agree more! I hope he loses in the most frustrating fashion possible as punishment for the many ppv's he's ruined. Then again, how humiliating would it be for Anderson if Chael fakes a shot and then thows a bomb and wins by ktfo. He would never live that down...

You could also say that if you get beaten by laynpray then you suck at fighting.. ya know if you can't even mount any offense because you are too busy being manhandled and controled... how can you talk shit on the other guy. Boring to watch, sure, but still a vicory. Unless you think you should just get an automatic win because you don't like the other guys strategy.

Before anyone starts pointing fingers, I have only had one fight and I won by armbar. I have just never liked the argument against laynpraying. If you spend an entire fight laying on your back getting punched and elbowed in the face then you lost the fight. It's frustrating as hell I'm sure and boring to watch, but it's a legit win.

All I want for Christmas is for Chael to man handle Silva all 5 rounds. Not knock him out or submit him. Just work the shit out of him to the point that Anderson has 25 minutes to think about all that silly dancing he did and how he will no longer be dancing with a belt. 25 minutes to be constantly thinking, "Damn I can't stop the take down, I can't get up, I can't do shit!". Ohhh.... one can only hope. God Bless America!

I also agree with theglza. Who gives a shit what language Anderson speaks? He can do whatever the fuck he wants. Fuckin' internet man, gives a bunch of people with keyboards the belief that they can group together and get a man to speak a language he's probably less comfortable speaking. I just don't see Chael ground and pounding Anderson for 5 whole rounds! like, that's a long friggin' time. Chael isn't going to submit Anderson, so wtf is he gonna do? Get knocked the fuck out. That's my guess. Either that or embarrased with Andersons gay dance moves.Or both.
