If you were lucky enough to be in Philly for the lead up to UFC 133, you were treated to a Q&A session with none other than Chael Sonnen. True to form, Chael Sonnen gave some brutally honest potentially scripted answers to the fans. And of course, the obligatory praise for Dana White, going as far as saying that Dana White would end the recession if he was president. Really. Not to imply that Chael would ever use plants for a Q&A session, but his response to “What happened in California? (9:52 mark)” seemed pre-packaged, even for an eagle among turkeys like Chael Sonnen.
Some brief highlights:
On whether he’d rather fight Yushin Okami or Anderson Silva:
“Well, I’m going to have to fight both of those guys. Yushin and I have fought before, Yushin and I fought as recently as two days ago. We are definitely going to meet up again in the Octagon, there’s no way around that.
Look, I am the UFC champion. That belt is nothing more than a piece of tin when it’s around Anderson Silva’s waist. I am the people’s champion, I am the linear champion and I am the best damn middleweight to ever live.
So, after Brian Stann and I do business, Dana and I will sit down like we always do, we’ll review a whole bunch of Strikeforce contracts. I imagine my paper airplane collection will get a lot bigger, if you guys know what I mean **ED. note: Damn, too soon**. And then we will decide if I will be granting Anderson Silva a shot at my championship.”
On his attempt to fight Lyoto Machida:
“Look, I tried to lure him into a fight because I was secretly trying to get a bunch of attention and fight an easy match. That upset Joe Silva, now he called in the Marine and I got to go deal with that.”
On his future in politics:
“ …My biggest goal? I’d like to see Brian Stann get elected to the presidency of the United States, if you’d really like to know.”
