Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Video: Chael Sonnen Responds to Creepy Robot’s Questioning

If we didn’t know better, we’d say that the folks at Sportsnet commissioned an AI robot from Round 5 in the “likeness” of Dana White to put the fighters he interviews at ease. But sadly, it’s just Canadian MMA talking head “Showdown” Joe Ferraro asking Chael Sonnen questions in an unnatural radio announcer timbre and inflection in the videos above and below.

Even Chael seems taken aback by Twiki’s voice at first, or maybe it was just because the interviewer’s opening of, “Talk a bit about your next opponent Brian Stann,” left “Showdown” open for a predictable Wikipedia-worthy account of Stann’s fight bio.

Eventualy, though, Chael hit his stride after being initially thrown off of his game by Canada’s Casey Kasem and in less than ten minutes he seasons the interview by sprinkling in insults about Anderson Silva, Rampage Jackson, the UFC’s light heavyweight class, Fedor Emelianenko and Wanderlei Silva among others.

The highlight has to be Sonnen’s claim that Fedor has only really had five fights and that his real record stands at 3-2 because of his assertion that fights in Japan are all fixed.

One surprising comment he did make is that he is becoming a fan of women’s MMA, which seems a bit too politically correct for “The American Gangster.

Makes you appreciate the Karyn Bryants and Ariel Helwanis out there who have game.

Chael Sonnen believes that Fedor's time in Japan is not relevant, yet Hendo's is, it proves at least one thing. He is better than a good employee.

I think Chael is both quicker, smarter, and wittier than Dan White. He also is a high level competitor and regardless of PED's can hold his own.

We also know he can set his own agenda and then negotiate out of wet paper bag if need be. All the qualities of a Chief Executive. The only thing he is missing is some depth in strategic planning and a beep-box.

I urge the Fluffer Bros seriously consider taking their venture to the next level. Dump Dana next to the ranks of Chocholate Al and the princess Ariel with a unlimited food and beverage expense account, and the have a board meeting to promote Mr. Sonnen to become the UFC's next CEO.

oh god.......dear dana: by the looks of recent pictures fedor is headed to lhw. either make a deal with the russians as their bargaining power is down or send chael to the shark tank and set up fedor vs sonnen. two good outcomes: sonnen will be a much tougher opponent and more exciting fight than hendo and also chael will be forced forced to shyaddup as fedor will break his jaw. win win in its purest form

Meh...showdown is as good as anyone out there. It is not like there are any good MMA interviewers out there. Much better than the American shit out there where the interviewers kiss the fighters ass while they interview.

THANK you CP for pointing out the douchiness of this douche-bucket Showdown Joe. HE is gawd-awful and makes me want to vomit. The guy is such a cheese-ball in ALLL aspects i fkn cant stand the site of him...let alone when he opens his fat fkn moouth. grghhjhasghdagdgashdas *anger* ... on that note, id like to say i agree with the guy above on that Helwani is a little BItch during his interviews and he did just sit there looking constipated (almost blushing) while Chael was just making sht up. Someone needs to call him out on some of the retarded things this Klan member says.

"Makes you appreciate the Karyn Bryants and Ariel Helwanis out there who have game."

Karyn has a ton of experience interviewing and has some game.
Ariel is more of a quantity vs quality guy, he has a long way to go though i.e. Koscheck interview in Montreal prior to GSP fight and Nick Diaz post fight v. Paul Daley.
Showdown Joe at least has the stones to challenge Chael on the Wandy comments instead of sitting there like he's constipated(like Helwani did when he was bashing pride and shit) plus covers many topics in a short period of time, Joe's got game.

Very good interview, some good zingers, but fairly grounded and toned down (on the Chael scale).

Also, do you think his time-share in Brazil gets the internet.
kneesnbows- July 26, 2011 at 12:19 pm
He may never talk shit about Maia, but always talks shit on Brazilian fighters in general. He was a little too complimentary this time, maybe some one paid him a visit.
sevvi- July 26, 2011 at 11:36 am
He never talks shit about Maia though. Kinda cool. "I might take him up on that. I could probably use that. Demian Maia is fantastic, i might take him up on that offer."

The People's Octagon? Or does he mean Cecil Peoples' Octagon.
Edamus- July 26, 2011 at 10:41 am
Haha, "The People's Octagon." Nice, Chael.
