Video: Countdown to UFC 89

In the official UFC 89 hype video we continue to hear about Chris Leben‘s transformation as a fighter, which has quickly become one of the main storylines heading into this event. Oddly, with all the talk about Leben’s transition from brawler to technically sound MMA fighter, whenever anyone talks about his strengths they inevitably end up talking mostly about the characteristics of a brawler (hard-hitting, looping punches, good chin, etc.) while ascribing to Michael Bisping the characteristics of a technical fighter (straight punches, apparently, which is laughable to Chris Wilson). Not saying Leben isn’t a different fighter these days, just saying the whole thing is interesting.

Anyway, give it a look and you won’t be disappointed. Despite burning through all the stock footage of British landmarks in existence, it’s another solid effort from the Countdown crew.

CP guys, I couldn't find a place to comment on the Jason Guida/Mamed fight. That needs to be put up as a story. That may be the most ridiculous fight I've ever seen. I don't know what's worse Guida losing his mouthpiece then not accepting a replacement, the ref freaking out when he couldn't find the mouthpiece, or Guida pushing the ref when he stopped the fight. Sheer brilliance. Guida did look pretty good for the first minute or so, however.

Leben and Bisping. I'm liking it. A soccer hooligan vs. a rasslin' fan. Perfect.

the more i think about it, the more the fight could be exciting, but i don't think it makes anyone a contender. maybe the winner's fight after this one, but this fight makes no one a contender...

anyway -- bisping/leben... ho-hum... at what weight will they be fighting? sherdog has leben listed as a 185 and bisping as a 205. regardless, i don't feel like this fight makes any difference in the belt contention picture...

a leben / kimbo fight would be nice... bisping would destroy kimbo right now... idk, i'm bored so i'm rambling. watching nog/herring right now... what a dumbass move, letting him up, heath!

Willi u clearly dont know much about MMA... Do you know what's the difference between Bisping vs Leben and Ken vs Kimbo? Bisping vs Leben is relevant for their weight division, the winner may very well get a tittle shot, another difference is the exposure MMA can earn in other countries like england by having their poster boy represent them well.

It may not be a worthy of PPV main event, but since is free...
Besides i'm sure ppl in england would much rather pay to watch their poster boy in the main event than GSP or some other big name out there

The Bisping vs. Leben fight is a great fight. But I agree with willi that it really shouldn't be receiving top billing. The undefeated British poster boy fights the brawling Yank... it's a good story line, but neither of these guys really have the clout to pull a main event. I wonder if the UK crowd is getting tired of cards that are so mediocre that the Americans always get them on free TV.

I can understand trying to convince the brits that the Chris Leben- Michael Bisping is their version of what GSP-Hughes was in Montreal but give me a fucking break... who's that stupid to believe that this is a main event type of fight?
some british nobody against another reality tv cunt... Kimbo-Ken was this laughable as a main event but at least Elite and Affliction have good fighters.
