No longer a free agent, MMA living legend Dan Henderson is slated to challenge Jake Shields for Strikeforce’s middleweight belt at the organization’s next CBS card in April. Dana White may take full responsibility for Hendo’s exit from the UFC, but according to Henderson in the video interview above, the signing was the best thing for him, really: "The opportunity to fight on CBS is huge…and you just don’t get that elsewhere. To have the opportunities to still be able to fight the top guys in the world, that was one of my main concerns, and they have that here as well. There’s no red tape to go through with sponsorships. Clinch Gear‘s not banned from the organization. I’m just happy all the way around."
Responding to White’s recent claims that he’s permanently "done" with Henderson, Dan was his usual respectful self: "I think the fans know Dana White. Personally, as far as our relationship, he’s still gonna be alright with me, but business-wise maybe he has to put on a certain front for certain things. And either way I’ll say that he’s still fat and he needs to diet down a little bit. I’ve been telling him for a long time. Hes spending a lot of money on expanding those suits."
As for his next opponent, Henderson described Jake Shields as "bigger than me…I think he does cut quite a bit of weight to get to ’85" — which seems like an odd claim based on information he probably made up. And sure, it’s no Henderson vs. Silva II, or even Henderson vs. Marquardt, but whaddya gonna do: "I don’t know how excited the fans are gonna be about that fight," Henderson said. "But I think it’s a good matchup and I’m excited about it."

Henderson should mutilate Shields. Shields won't be able to take him down, and if some how his prayers to the MMA demigods come through, and he manages to take Hendo down, he won't keep him down for long. And WHOOSH! There goes 2/3's of Shields game. Now what is he going to do? I see Shields as a less technical, albeit stronger Bisping in the stand-up department. Im happy for strikeforce! i think they are slowly taking on more and more good fighters like Fedor and Hendo and big Entertainment names that could turn in to good fighters like bobby lashly. I think Strikeforce should pick up a number of guys the UFC has just droped like Dennis Kang. I really enjoy watching him fight! Dana is getting FATTER! Rich basterd!

Regardless, this is good for both organizations. The only thing that will make more money than Dan Henderson sticking around to fight Marquardt or Silva is Dan Henderson returning to UFC someday and picking up where he left off. The drama will sell as much as a fight and in either case, everyone wins. And I'm not saying Strikeforce is the new juggernaut, but I do find it interesting that very few wanna give them a chance... despite them scoring some names like Henderson and Fedor. It's like the nerdiest guy in school banging the head cheerleader, but no one gives him props for it... they just repeat what a nerd he is. They may go tits up, who knows. But the UFC was on the brink of extinction at one point, too, and some deep pockets jumped in. All it would take is someone like a Mark Cuban to get behind it and you have a different story. I just don't see how free Fedor/Henderson fights are anything to laugh off. I'll take it. It's not like Elite XC pushing Phil Baroni as the co-headliner. Right now, I keep reading "So what? They have what... two big names?" Twelve months from now it could be 10 big names, especially given the way the UFC likes to cut people for losing.

hendo will destroy shields...id be SHOCKED to see opposite of that. anyways...strikeforce is doing pretty well getting these big named fighters...the problem is finding competition for them. im no expert on the roster strikeforce currently has, but im sure its not nearly as stacked as the UFC's divisions. good luck to hendo though, as though he needs it, lol.
