The Japanese MMA scene might be slumping into the second decade of the 21st Century, but the Land of the Rising Sun is still the industry leader in unrestrained mayhem and total batshit craziness. Props to MMA Fighting.com’s resident gaijin Daniel Herbertson for passing along the above video of a lightweight fight last week in the Grachan organization … and the unexpected rampage that occurs immediately following it. If we only knew word one of Japanese – instead of spending all four years in high school and two years in college studying German, which turned out to be a waste of everyone’s time – we could give you a bit more context here. Just being big, dumb white guys, we’re going to have to take Herbertson’s word for a lot of it.
Here’s the Reader’s Digest condensed version: According to DH, Grachan is a Japanese promotion that (as you can see) uses a cage and prides itself on its "hardcore" image. In the vid, the dude in tights (Takeo Shiina) gets clowned by the dude in board shorts (Jung Hyun Lee) during their prefight stare down at Grachan 5. Lee does some head-waggling and kiss-blowing and then comes out of his corner at the opening bell with a Mitrione-esque grin on his face. Shiina doesn’t take too kindly to it. At all. Just a minute or so into the fight he KOs Lee with a left and then goes absolutely ape shit. When veteran referee Samio Kimura dives into the line of fire to call for the stoppage he gets a hammerfist to the back of the head and a knee to the ribs for his trouble. Shiina is eventually restrained and in the aftermath we can’t help but notice some important cultural differences …
Actually, this whole exchange is handled so weirdly by Grachan – an organization that also apparently thinks it’s totally cool just to blast that one Pitbull song throughout the fight – that we almost want to call bullshit and say this whole thing is a work. But we won’t, because the punching and kicking looks mostly on the level. Now, we all know if this happened in our beloved Octagon, Shiina would be staring down the barrel of a lifetime ban personally delivered by a very pissed off Bald Father. In Gachan, he’s allowed to parade around the cage smiling and getting his hand raised and then climb atop the fence to celebrate while the audience cheers his exploits. Check out that grin at the 2:11 mark. Pretty strange, right?
At 2:27, Shiina kneels down to get a final taunt in on Lee, which apparently draws the ire of CMA Korea teammate and Dream veteran Won Sik Park. This is certainly the most staged-looking part of the video, where it appears that Park and Shiina hammer out a bout agreement for a future meeting between the two. Shiina is eventually disqualified – the news is delivered by a man we can only assume is the organization’s senior referee, judging by his blond Mohawk – but then he is allowed to address the crowd on the mic. Maybe, despite the fact that he so clearly doesn’t give a fuck, he’s apologizing. Unknown.
Anyway, the whole thing is either rigged or makes Strikeforce look like they’re running a very tight ship. If you have five minutes, it’s worth a look. If you’re really interested, stick around to the very end to witness Shiina’s halfassed handshake and bow to Kimura as if to say, “Dude, it’s whatever.”

commentsI have a hard time believing they look in the mirror after a trim and are like 'Kampai' !!??
Second, those wacky Japanese love a good mind fucky. I'd be willing to place a pretty heft wager that Asian #1 wasn't supposed to bomb Asian #2, and when he realized he just turned Asian #2's jaw into his own private Hiroshima he had to make it look like shit was getting out of hand.
And watch the ref. I've seen 5-year-old girls get hit harder than that and dude reacts like he was chopped down with a fucking Katana.
One was scared and the other was proud of it. The one who expected to lose the most got in a lucky shot and used the opportunity to inflict as much pain into his opponent as he had fear in his heart! His emotions overwhelmed him. And when the ref interfered,......well stupid motherfucker shouldn't have gotten in the way of such an obvious letting of built up anger!!!! LMFAO!
I read the comments first, btw, and almost didn't watch (thinking it was definitely a work).
1:20- The overzealous bastard falling on his face jumping in the cage.
2:07- A weak DX style crotch chop, proof it is at least semi staged.
BadBoy for Rife Bitches!
ok i gave the actors fighters too much credit, they looked much more up and up
Braces for Deletion admonishment
