Video: Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers Have Their First Staredown

…and as you can see, the size difference is positively Couture/Lesnar-esque. Not that a size advantage helped Tim Sylvia against Fedor last July, but then again Sylvia is a clumsy oaf with doo-doo in his pants, and the Grim is an undefeated head-bussa with Ambien in his fists. Still no word on exactly when the Emelianenko/Rogers fight will go down, but the Strikeforce/M-1 crew is getting a head-start on filming promos for it, and arranged this face-off yesterday in New York. As for the Grim, he knows he’ll be The Man if he manages to score an upset against Fedor, telling MMA Fanhouse:

I’m God then. I’m the God of MMA. I’ll become the God of MMA, right? Isn’t that how it goes? I’m the soul snatcher; I’m the grim. I’ll take all his wins and put them under my belt, and then everybody can just hush up.

It will actually be his 4th fight in the US, but what do facts matter, right?

Rogers has big power, but it will be his lack of ground game that will be his undoing. If fedor gets it to teh ground, it will be over in seconds. That being aid, I really want Rogers to win, just so that everyone will stop misusing "GOAT" by labeling Fedor with it.

But I do think people will take Brett seriously if he can pull it off. People still question the Arlovski victory, but if he can bag Fedor, too? He'll get respect for sure.

Fedor is not ducking anyone. Ever.
Although eventually he will lose... be it a lucky punch.... decision.... SOMETHING. Probably at a time that NOBODY expects it too. It's the rules. Happens to everyone.
But I must point out size didn't help anyone of the other guys Fedor beat.

I think the last thing Brett should want is to win by KO... If he knocks Fedor out, everyone's gonna call it a fluke anyways. The best thing Brett can do is win by unanimous condition is a grueling 3 rounds where he spends his time taking Fedor down at will and defending his armbar attempts with submissions of his own. And I think we all know that won't happen. So either Fedor destroys him with a superior ground game (most likely), or gets knocked out (never happened before...) in which case people would call it the curse of having fought over in america for the first time. I doubt anyone is considering calling Brett Rogers the king of MMA!

Remember how Buster Douglas was instantly the boxing god after he knocked out Tyson? Er... not so much.

Good luck and all, but even if you beat him, that means it was your night. Will people start calling you the best in the world and mean it? Doubtful.

And I guess it's just the fans response to personality because it's interesting the way Rogers is a one trick striking pony and is embraced, but Lesnar preferring to mainly wrestle pisses off everyone else.

Can Grim take a punch? I've only seen two of his fights so I have no idea. In my head I see him doing the same rush he pulled against the Pitbull and I can see Fedor throwing that fallback shot he used against the Pitbull. The outcome: ???

My gut says "g'night Grim!" but JEBUS! he looks big in that video.

Yes, Brett, that's how it went in the Highlander. I'm guessing this fight will go a lot more like, say, Hostel. You'll be the guy in the chair, Fedor will be the guy with the blow torch.

Of all the factors that can contribute to a win or loss for these two, size is not one of them. Grim needs a KO, and with a reach advantage, his chances of landing one may be slightly better.

These guys won't lay on each other, since Grim, I'm sure, would prefer to stand, and Fedor will make quick work of him on the ground.

Should be fun to watch.
