Video: Gray Maynard’s Only UFC Knockout (And Three More Quick Ones)

(Props: UFC)

It’s kind of hard to believe now, but before his current streak of eight consecutive decisions — and directly after his oddball no-contest against Rob EmersonGray Maynard actually knocked somebody out in the UFC. This went down at UFC Fight Night 11 back in September 2007, and the victim was Joe Veres, a wrestler from Columbus, Ohio who was making his UFC debut.

As you’ll see in the above video (starting at the 0:57 mark), Maynard catches Veres with a lead left hook almost immediately, and makes it official with some gnarly shots from the top. Total time expenditure: 9 seconds. Since that night, the UFC lightweight contender has spent two hours and 10 minutes of fight time without a stoppage. But hey, there’s always next time

Maynard was real surprised at the quick knockout. He was upset that he didn't have a chance to lay on him.

How you take any guy with a tramp stamp seriously is beyond me.

Gray's striking is overlooked to often, he landed that same sweet hook on Edgar and almost put him away

Why would you suggest skipping over Don Frye and his marvelous mustache?
