Video: Hector Lombard Scores Another Savage KO at Bellator 44

(Props: BellatorMMA)

Unfortunately, ReX was unable to provide us with one of his famous Bellator reports this week, so you’ll have to settle for this quick-n-dirty recap of Bellator 44, which went down Saturday night in Atlantic City. First, we’ll direct you to the video above: Hector Lombard earned his 18th-straight victory (!) in a non-title bout against Falaniko Vitale, crushing Niko to the mat with a right hook in the third frame after a surprisingly dull first two rounds. Lombard’s latest performance follows such previous classics as “Six Second Prison Rape” and “A Corpse Named ‘Whisper’.”

Headlining the card, Xtreme Couture’s Michael Chandler scored an upset decision win over the highly-touted Patricky Freire in the Season Four Lightweight Tournament final, outworking the Pitbull in all three rounds; Chandler was docked a point in the third for groin-kicks. The victory netted him a $100,00 check and a future shot at Eddie Alvarez‘s belt. In non-tournament action, Alexander Shlemenko spun circles around Brett Cooper, picking up his own UD victory, while Giedrius Karavackas battled back from an early ass-kicking to submit Sam Oropeza by scarf-hold armlock. Full results and video of the Karavackas/Oropeza stoppage are after the jump.

- Michael Chandler def. Patricky Freire via unanimous decision (29–27 x 3)
- Hector Lombard def. Falaniko Vitale via KO, 0:54 of round 3
- Giedrius Karavackas def. Sam Oropeza via submission (scarf hold armlock), 3:59 of round 3
- Alexander Shlemenko def. Brett Cooper via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–28, 29–28)

- Jamall Johnson def. Randy Smith via submission (rear-naked choke), 4:16 of round 2
- Jeff Lentz def. Anthony Leone via unanimous decision (29–28 x 3)
- Jay Silva def. Gemiyale Adkins via unanimous decision (30–26, 30–27 x 2)

One last comment....Karavackas tapping out of Sammy Oropeza was sweet....guy had about 200 people there obnoxiously chanting "Sammy-O" all night and chanting to Karavackas " You Can't Win".....was obnoxious as hell....of course the resulting " Sammy Tapped...Go Home" chant, probably was also kind of obnoxious....but cool...Bellator puts on a nice show...good card all around other than the boring Lombard fight...

Lombard is completely overrated.....was at the Bellator show....he was probably losing the fight....did nothing until he connected with the big punch....he's a complete one trick pony...Silva would pick him apart and make him look silly....and anyone with a brain would try to take him to the ground and neutralize his striking...I know the guy can punch, but he's got to have more weapons than that to compete in the UFC....

That's about as roided-up as it gets.

I'm pretty sure having to fight Alverez is NOT a good prize. Take the 100 g's and run, son!

I'd like to see Lombard vs. Palhares in a battle of guys who (look like they) are roided to the gills.

Rex's recaps are half the reason CagePotato is in my feedreader. Get that fool on the payroll ASAP.

Lombard joins the walk off KO club.
Cooper v. Schlemenko is a must see fight if you missed it.
If Chandler hops on the juice hard he might be able to give Alvarez a run for his money.
Karavackas has heart and can take a shot.
As usual, entertaining stuff from Bellator.

"$100,00 check " does that mean $100? or did they mean to write $100,000.00? that would blow if it was only $100

Tai-Pan - + 1 on that..

Honestly Rex13's write ups are so long winded I just skip to the comments. This was much better.
As far as the Lombard fight goes that was a wicked KO to end a boring as fuck fight. Total waste of time until the third round. The other fights were sweet tho, Schlemenko is almost always entertaining, and he landed like 80% of the spinning backfists he threw. Awesome fight and Cooper is tough as balls.
