Video: Herschel Walker Shows Us What He’s Got

(Props: YouTube.com/strikeforcefilms)

You know you’re a big deal when Frank Shamrock is handling color commentary for your striking drills. Herschel Walker‘s MMA debut is slated for next month, and even though his opponent is still TBA, Strikeforce decided to shoot some footage of the former football star working out at American Kickboxing Academy to prove that he can hit pads without injuring himself. Of course, this tells us nothing about the ground skills that he may or may not be picking up, but hey, those roundhouse kicks look pretty sharp for a 47-year-old. Tickets for Strikeforce: Miami go on sale to the general public tomorrow at Ticketmaster; as of now, no matchups have been officially announced, so purchase at your own risk.

he looks like he sucks and would get owned in a heart beat. FIrst once again.

I know this phrase gets thrown around allot, but Frank Shamrock has got to be the biggest douche bag in MMA. Since the exit of Bill Goldberg that has been the most highly contested title in all of MMA. What weight is Walker fighting at by the way?

That's not what I heard CP. Strikeforce: Miami is rumoured to be hosting the long awaited rematch between Pedro Martinez and Don Zimmer.

So Strikeforce is still having trouble finding a can for Walker to "beat"?

wow. It took 3 comments for a Pedro Martinez/Don Zimmer "joke". I think we caught the internet douchebags sleeping.

Lunk don't frown on such a highly contested rematch. I'd love to see that down here in South Florida. I also love how the stupid event is called "Strikeforce:Miami" even though it's being held in Sunrise, Florida which is apart of West Fort Lauderdale. It's closer to the swamp than the beach.

i was close to making a comment about him being 47 years old until i realized that we have all been duped into believing that a match between a 46 year old couture and a 45 year old coleman holds more credibility. i have to admit that my attempts around these parts usually go in the direction of failed humor, but in all truth...i think both herschel's high kicks and punching seem superior to what coleman or couture can throw. and to those who look to rip on the dude for being an ex NFL football player that might be out of this league stepping into MMA: you just watched an entire season of UFC programming based on roughly the same premise. let the guy fight, then make the call.

I'm pretty sure Herschal Walker's opponent is gonna be a college mascot of some sort...

hope his opponent also moves in slow motion.

Seriously, I don't doubt the athletic ability of Pro NFL'ers even at his age; however, where is his power and drive? Simple straight punches, sloppy leg kicks and bad foot movement. A strong core is great and all but simply shifting this guys momentum would be pretty easy. I dunno, I guess i'd like to see him get fired up to see some of that power...but at this stage, this guy's a farce. Simply name recognition to sell tickets. Hmm...we live in both a Golden and Plague age of MMA.

I dont know about his kicks "looking nice". He doesnt turn his hips or shoulders. Also, notice how he pretty much drops his hand after throwing it on each punch, left or right. Im just saying. Im sure Herschel is a freakishly strong and somewhat still explosive 45+ year old man - but Couture throws a much purer punch, and posseses a defense and clench game that is light years ahead of what Herschel is packing.

@ Harry Sack/ Skeletor Yea, he definitely drops his hands a little witch each punch, but at least he can actually throw a high kick.Couture's standup is good but hes got his problems too, with that goofy crouching jab he liked to throw so much in the nogueira fight and his habitual bouy like head bobbing. Frank Shamrock is the biggest douche in MMA? I'm sorry I'd have that award to his brother Ken, not even sure if I could do that..there are a lot of douches in mma. I'd give the douche award to Junie Browning Herchel doesn't look too bad, I mean its his mma debut, looks better than fuckin half the people in the UFC house, but that doesnt say much. Gotta be the youngest lookin 47 year old I've seen, i still think TKD is crap though. Plus you know we're all going to watch this shit.

wow. this dude is 47? /squeezes belly fat /one tear rolls down face /eats peanut butter and chocolate covered bacon

Walker against an up and comer whos 25 yrs younger = no interest, Walker vs another similiar fighter using shorter rounds ( say 3 min ) might just be an interesting fight. Sooner or later there will be a division for the older fighters to compete amongst themselves, this is not just a sport for 25-35 yr olds.

    Thu, 12/10/09 - 09:39

^^^^ ya but how many rushing yds has randy or coleman racked up? kinda stupid comparing the three when they competed in different professions
  16. steampunk22 Says:

    Thu, 12/10/09 - 09:48

Sigh. Heavy feet. I hope he can check a leg kick because whoever is fighting him would be smart to just chop him down and then shoot takedowns. Come on Strikeforce, there are better REAL fighters out there. Shit there are better GIMMICK fighters out there.
  17. NateGetsIrate Says:

    Thu, 12/10/09 - 09:56

He doesn't looks THAT bad. I would at least bet on him if his first opponent was Ken Shamrock. Or even Bob Sapp.
  18. Koeikan Says:

    Thu, 12/10/09 - 11:38

He definitely has some flaws in his technique and it would be nice to see some more actual combos, but he looked better than I thought he would.

i cant believe i just sat through that entire video thinking that he was gonna turn it up.... fuck. They are gonna have to throw a major can at this guy just so he doesnt get put in a retirement home.

The only thing that throws slower, less telegraphed strikes than that is a Real Doll.
  22. TheArtof8Limbs Says:

just got the news that walker is going to be fighting a retarded circus monkey....my money is on the monkey

I also skipped through the video in 30-second increments hoping to see some combo strikes.
