Video: Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian Go Kick for Kick in the Octagon

Jose Aldo grew up playing soccer, but transitioned to MMA when his love of brawling with rival teams began to overcome his love of scoring goals. His UFC 136 opponent Kenny Florian took his passion for soccer all the way to a position on the Boston College varsity team. Tomorrow night, they’ll be trying to kick each other, in a real sport. As this is a championship fight, their soccer-juggling showdown should have really gone five rounds. But I have a feeling it would have been an even bigger blowout if Aldo didn’t grab the fence in the third. A sign of things to come? [Ed. note: No.]

History was made and Dana wasn't there to witness it. Florian actually took control of the cage for the first time ever in regards to a title. Impressive!

@k-honda: Too true. I could watch Football if it weren't for the primadonnas constantly diving for penalties. It's especially sad when they do have the skill to make hard shots and beat people fairly. It pisses me off when people call it "gamesmanship" or saying "well you've got to accept that he was going to do that" when someone dives. It's not gamesmanship, it's cheating, and fuck anyone who says otherwise.

@ virpz - so you're saying these two are already making excuses?

I will cheer for the two. Both classy dudes very skilled but they had their football skills in doubt there. Kenny speaks some decent portuguese I see. Aldo argued that the ball was too light and Kenny replied in portuguese " Yeah, it is too light, hard to do with it".

How sad would that be if in an alternate universe Aldo had chosen soccer as his main pursuit and then to have to watch him take crying lessons from professional actors in order to try to garner the yellow card every time a gust of wind grazed his face.
I still wouldn't like soccer (too boring) but I wouldn't hate it if those so-called competitors didn't pull that flopping shit so damn much.

Looks like Jose was just kicking for points, where as Ken-Flo was going for the kill.
