Video: King Mo’s Journey to the Crown

It says a lot about the video production skills of that they can make a gum-flappin’ heel-in-training like Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal seem like a sympathetic character. Previously, we’ve seen AE document Mo’s professional debut and his squash match against Mark Kerr, but now the moneyweight contender approaches the biggest fight of his career — his first top-ten opponent, and his first shot at a title belt. Experience and hype are on the side of the champion, Gegard Mousasi, who has run through his last 15 opponents, 13 by stoppage. And yet, there doesn’t seem to be an ounce of doubt in Mo’s mind. He compares the fight to a video game, and one he plans on beating. Fittingly, the clip ends with a sequence of footage from EA MMA, with Mo and Mousasi throwing down. But how will it play out in real life?

I think people are crazy thinking they are going to see Mo put on his back by Mousasi (save by KO). Given Mo's wrestling background this will most likely be played out on the feet or with Mousasi on his back. But Mousasi will win, he is the more technical and talented striker for sure.

Mo's got the power and Mousassi is overrated.

I like both fighters..this is a tough call. Anyone counting out Mo is trippin...but I do give the edge to Mousassi- he's been here before and Mo hasn't....

I'm with you Dante. I don't know which way I'll throw the CP Chips on this one!

King Mo wins with KO in 3rd or Decision.
He's too strong for mousasi.

I'm going with King Mo by KO on this one, even though I can't stand him personally.

Mousasi is over-rated. I was not impressed with him in his fight against Sokoudjou. I think Mo's size and athleticism will be too much for him.

Mousasi via KTFO

^ truth on Genki.

Mousasi's gonna have his hands full, Mo's aggressive style is his chance to knock dude out.

But i still think Sweet Sassi in round 1 TKO.
Japanadian- April 14, 2010 at 8:03 am
Mousassi ftw, King Mo is just another rampage jackson, he has talent and power but his only motivation is money, he'll fight till he gets a movie deal. King Mo will NEVER top Genki Sudo for best entrances.

Sorry just to add, I think it’s been mentioned more than enough times that fighters don’t get paid or looked after the way they should. I think it’s been quite obvious for a while now that the UFC treats the majority of their fighters poorly (their attitude is there are a hundred guys who are chomping at the bit to get a chance to fight in the UFC).
ytrebil- April 14, 2010 at 7:41 am
By the way guys, just off topic, do you think that with the increased ruthlessness of the UFC’s cuts, the way they dealt with Dan Henderson that this is the reason for the increased amount of long, drawn out, dull fights? We’re talking about fighters such as Anderson Silva and GSP who have been some of the most entertaining fighters to watch and recently they’ve just done what they needed to, to get wins. From their own point of views it’s another win, retaining their respective belts and job security. I think Dana and Silva need to really need to sit down and look at future match-ups to give the fans what they want. We know how pissed off DW was with the Abu Dhabi show, but it’s his own doing. You can’t blame these top level fighters for being so defensive and resulting in some really ‘boring’ fights.

Where are the damn updated power rankings?
ReX13- April 14, 2010 at 7:16 am
King Mo is a member/ringleader in Team GDP. I'm not 100%, but i believe it stands for "Get Dat Paper".
ytrebil- April 14, 2010 at 7:12 am
Mousasi is fast becoming my favourite fighter. He has a cool personality, he has viscious strikes and he knows how to finish fights.

This card looks good. Better than anything the UFC have put together of late anyway.
EvilScott- April 14, 2010 at 7:11 am
Man, the footage from the EA looked like garbage.

I just don't see how Mo wins this - he's gonna get picked apart on the feet or submit on the mat.
destinationblood- April 14, 2010 at 7:06 am
Thats a pretty good list 2:18.......What is GDP? I hope its not Groun' Dend Pound
Get Off Me- April 14, 2010 at 6:45 am
In real life, Mo will look slow and Gegard will get the KO.
andoy162- April 14, 2010 at 6:42 am
first ! but on a serious note, mousassi will ground and pound mo.
tko in round 1 or 2 mousassi. i hope mo also has an extravagant exit, especially when he looses this one.
