Video: MMA’s Greatest Upsets

Loyal readers of this site know how much we love video highlights and lists of things, so it should be no surprise that we really enjoyed the latest effort from KingAtRock (who you might remember from such videos as this one or that one).  So yeah, we probably would have posted this regardless, but it sure didn’t hurt that he gave us a little shout-out at the end.  Let this be a lesson to the rest of you: never underestimate the power of pandering to our collective ego.

On the real though, this is a pretty solid list of upsets.  It does seem a little strange, considering what we know about each man’s career trajectory, to think of Rashad Evans’ brain cell-destroying knockout of Chuck Liddell as an upset.  At the time it was a shocker, sure, but now it seems like we probably should have seen it coming.  Who knows, maybe someday we’ll be saying the same thing about Thales Leites’ dramatic victory via flying triangle choke over Anderson Silva.  Probably not, though.

Hadn't seen some of these before... Great video.

Williams vs Coleman was BRUTAL. Coleman being totally out on his feet, basically not even flinching and getting a HK full force in the face... Made me cringe.

Really, REALLY good vid. Nicely done!

Some quick thoughts...

Diaz vs Gomi: A classic. One of my favorite fights.

Diaz ve Lawler: WTF? I still can't believe that happened.

Kimbo vs Seth: Although I didn't need to see that again, it deserved to be on the list.

Shembrei vs Sakuraba: I just watched this fight for the 3rd time the other night! Great match. Sakuraba is totally in control...then he starts getting overconfident. A classic lesson in "It ain't over 'till it's over!"

The Terra mother humpers! GSP is great and all but I love Matt Serra. The accent makes it all work, if he was from anywhere else, he'd just be a twat. KO that redneck Hughes for us baby!

Thanks for posting the awesome vid! It's all about the lists and vids.
Randleman knocked Cro Cop the heck out. Watch Cro Cop's arms. They go limp, which can also be said about all the guys who claim that the stoppage was early, when they see a fine woman, because they like men.

Biggest MMA UPset = Well, I guess it wasn't sanctioned or anything, but I think some dude from the IFL got knocked out by a nobody. I think it was Benji Radach or something. The story goes that he hit on some dude's girl, so they both threw some gloves on and the dude ended up ko-ing the IFL fighter. I can't seem to find the video. =/

He left out one of the biggest upsets in MMA history and one of the most important bouts in the history of the sport-the first fight between Randy Couture and Vitor Belfort at UFC 15 in 1997.No one gave Randy a shot in hell at even hanging with Vitor. That was back when Vitor was killing everyone in under a minute, and SEG was planning on making him their next big star. They were feeding him Randy as a tune up bout before throwing him in a title bout against Mo Smith. At the time Randy only had 2 fights and SEG thought he was just a wrestler that Vitor would be able to add to his highlight reel.Boy were they wrong................

Oh Slice ... how you go from inviting bare knuckle punches to your chin from a fellow backyard brawler, then go down to a short jab by a dude with pink hair.

... Seth rigged it, anybody else?

Kimbo Slice Truthers !!!!
