Video: Nick Newell Scores 71-Second Heel-Hook Win at XFC 15

(Props: oneness2004. Fight begins at the 2:40 mark.)

On Friday night, undefeated MMA fighter and CagePotato film critic Nick Newell increased his pro record to 6-0, picking up yet another first-round stoppage at XFC 15 in Tampa, Florida. Nick was the aggressor early, slugging opponent Denis Hernandez to the fence and taking him down with relative ease. From there, he softened up Hernandez with ground-and-pound before dropping back into a heel-hook. It’s as surprising as it is painful, and Hernandez is forced to tap. Newell’s attempt at an off-the-cage victory somersault is somewhat less successful, but overall, it’s a great showing from our homeboy. Congrats, Nick.

After the jump: Full results from XFC 15, plus another sick submission from the Ryan Thomas vs. John Kolosci bout.

- Eric Reynolds def. Jonatas Novaes via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3)
- Carla Esparza def. Felice Herrig via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
- Nick Newell def. Denis Hernandez via submission (heel hook), 1:11 of round 1
- Corey Hill def. Charlie Rader via submission (brabo choke), 3:58 of round 1
- Brandon Sayles def. Imani Lee via verbal submission (punches), 3:09 of round 1
- Ryan Thomas def. John Kolosci via submission (reverse triangle choke), 4:46 of round 1
- Marlon Moraes def. Chris Manuel via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
- Socrates Pierre def. Phil Daru via unanimous decision
- Anthony Christodoulou def. Bruce Lutchmedial via TKO, 3:59 of round 3

(Thomas vs. Kolosci. Submission begins at 5:52.)

Good job Nick, you are a Warrior!
Knurft- December 5, 2011 at 3:41 pm
The lad can't use his 'shorty' to punch directly, as u can see at 3:30. He only uses elbows....had something to do with nerves and being freaking painfull, can't remember precisely. It's also why surgeons leave some flesh/skin/muscle, they put it over the bone so they can have a prothesis without being in pain while wearing it due to friction etc. Maybe he'll be able to smack once, being a tough-ass fighter, but i doubt you'll ever see some 2handed g&p from him.

KarmaAteMyCat- December 5, 2011 at 2:02 pm
Xeno you are to witty/amusing not to just laugh at dammit! I am suppose to fight on Dec 17th at Raging Wolf Productions I stepped up a weight class to find opponents which is whatever I guess right? After having a bunch of guys back out of fights with me at 135lbs I just can't not take a fight I need more fight experience. So yeah I'll be fighting at 145lbs my opponent I had was a top 5 wrestler in NY and did very well in High School and College however he unfortunately had a run in with a table saw and that run in just happen to involve his index finger I'll put it up on my Blog. Sucks but thats life man their doing the best they can to find me a last minute replacement so we'll see. FedorKat dammit that was funny..
XENOPHON- December 5, 2011 at 1:49 pm
Newell..if your around.
When you going to step up the level of opponents your the ring with, and quit padding your record with the low hanging fruit?
Speaking of low hanging fruit, when is Karma "its made out of 100% paper" FedoraKat going to fight next?

You think this dude has an advantage, I saw this dude fight one time with a giant wrench as a hand, nearly crushed a dudes head, that was an unfair advantage, damn Techno Destructo, I am glad GWAR killed him.
claycarter76- December 5, 2011 at 11:40 am
This dudes nickname should be Mind Quad (american dad)
KarmaAteMyCat- December 5, 2011 at 10:57 am

"there are in fact two bones right thereā€¦.if you look closely, Newell has about an 8? stub right there"

hitekredneck: You don't have to exaggerate this. It's his arm, not your penis.
ThePeoplesTroll- December 5, 2011 at 10:52 am
he has one friggin arm thats a huge disadvantage. the only good thing about it is it's shaped nicely and can trap a heel lol
O Chan- December 5, 2011 at 10:32 am
what about the weight disadvantage? I mean, I would assume an army would weigh between 5-10 pounds and clearly without it, his weight would be distributed differently throughout his body. So while the guy is fighting a 155er, he could actually be fighting someone at 165 if he had an arm.
Props to that guy though, he could kick my ass if he wanted to.

this entire comment section: can't tell if stupid or just trolling.
danomite- December 5, 2011 at 8:25 am
Plus, you didn't even mention how much easier it is for him to keep his guard up without all that extra weight to carry.

Whatever happened to the proving grounds thing? Didn't he win? Did shark fights go belly up while he was recovering from injury?
Ani703- December 5, 2011 at 8:23 am
Let's give this guy a hand.
danomite- December 5, 2011 at 8:18 am
damnit Fred beat me to it.
danomite- December 5, 2011 at 8:16 am
I totally agree. Huge advantage. That's why Kyle Maynard had to go to bum-fuck Alabama to fight. No Athletic commission in the world would let a Superhuman like him fight regular guys. I mean, if missing one arm is an advantage, then you could only imagine the advantage a guy like Kyle, with no arms or legs, has over other guys. It's the equivalent of giving a guy horse steroids and letting him dip his gloves in glass before the fight. Totally unfair.
Fried Taco- December 5, 2011 at 8:10 am
So Kyle Maynard has an enormous advantage when fighting?
Congrats Nick! Very nice win!!!!
Duh Ogre- December 5, 2011 at 7:57 am
Also it's one less arm to be submitted. No worries about arm bars coming from that direction
RichO- December 5, 2011 at 7:56 am
Since I am not anatomy savvy, let's agree to disagree. lol
hitekredneck- December 5, 2011 at 7:33 am
RichO: there are in fact two bones right there....if you look closely, Newell has about an 8" stub right there
RichO- December 5, 2011 at 7:21 am
I'm not arguing the fact he has an elbow. I simply said it's not a 'straight bone' because there's muscle tissue covering the elbow. It's soft tissue at the end, not a bone. Regardless, it'll hurt like hell.
HandsofGold- December 5, 2011 at 7:09 am
Man i have a uncle that has one arm exactly like this and when he puches you that bone hurts its like catching a elbow from 12-6, when he punches straight down on your face. I think that would be dangerous to some fighters. But good win for him.
amsterdamheavy- December 5, 2011 at 6:50 am
@RichO Obviously, there IS a bone, cause the fuckin stump MOVES and its rigid, he can post on it and he can hook a leg with the crook of his elbow, it isnt flopping about.

I know an amputee and his stump (leg) is a goddamn flesh club.

Lose/Lose situation for the other guy. "Hah, You beat a 1 armed guy" or "HAH, you lost to a 1 armed guy"
