If you’ve ever wanted to see what a Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing looks like from the inside, you might be interested in these videos (courtesy of CageWriter), which show Karo Parisyan getting reamed for his painkiller use, Phil Nurse defending his own reputation, and BJ Penn crying for justice. In the above clip, Karo explains why he took those unapproved meds, and throws himself on the mercy of the commission. The "drifting in and out of the state of reality" line comes at 5:54, and the ruling begins at 7:48, where Commissioner John Bailey lays down the suspension and fine, and suggests that in the future, a mixed martial artist’s entire win bonus should be forfeited if he tests positive for banned substances.
Below, Nurse admits that in retrospect, his use of Vaseline during the St. Pierre/Penn fight "doesn’t look good," and gets grilled about it while BJ Penn stares him down at the other end of the table. After the jump: Penn comes out against all forms of cheating, one commission member basically calls bullshit on the idea that you can ingest something that makes you slippery, and another is just glad that GSP didn’t beat him to death. Plus, Penn’s lawyer Raffi Nahabedian calls for a full-scale investigation on Lubrigate.

Well it's certainly nice to see formal hearings in the sport of MMA. In a weird capitalistic democratic way it legitimizes MMA and causes a paradigm shift from viewing the sport as brutal and barbaric to a credible and organized. In this way MMA is evolving. @ the Penn haters: Vaseline was applied somewhere it shouldn't have been on a champion's body, on somebody who is and will continue to be a huge face for the sport. Why isn't that bad? I don't hate BJ Penn, I am just disappointed by his actions the last few years.... I used to be a huge BJ Penn fan, but his ability to stagnate a whole division to feed his overinflated ego turned me off, as well as his lack of class considering he is the belt holder at 155 (not for long, thank gods) Seems like alot of BJ fans have taken his side and are looking for excuses as to why the great BJ Penn did not win.... It is obvious that GSP out struck BJ and having two fighters with vase on thier faces wrestle, your going to transfer it to other parts of the body.... But after BJ displays another sad, sad training camp with his crew of yes men and hangers on then loses, by quitting, and we find his fans are up in arms.....his training needs to change cause what he is doing is not working for him.... With a better work ethic (cause we all know that comparing GSP's training camps to Penns are laughable, not being biased but there are many many fighters that utilize a highly effecient training camp that makes BJ's efforts seem mundane) more varied training with SKILLED fighters instead of the groupies that Penn uses, it goes on and on as too why he is failing with the fans and why he loss so dramatically. I am a HUGE GSP fan and I will be first to admit that I thought all of this was complete and utter bullshit, but after watching this I feel a little sorry for Penn (haha can't believe I am saying that). The way he explains the damage he took and how he knew at a certain moment that he could not hold GSP anymore and was going to be pummeled is interesting. I also will admit that this doesn't look remotely good at all for GSP ecspecially with all the quotes from other fighters and the fact that they filed a pre-fight warning against him. The simple solution is GSP and his corner have to be overly cautious and have only stitches or whoever touch his face with vaseline. Commision can wipe him down every round it doesn't matter, this just needs to be put to bed in GSP's next fight so no one can accuse him of greasing. A dominant win over Alves with no chance of greasing should hopefully end this discussion. I also am not as stark raving mad at Penn for making this complaint like everyone seems to be. If he continues talking long after this hearing is held then yes it will have gone to far. Lets remember that this is the fighters livlihoods and Penn took serious damage that could potentially alter his career (not necessarily but concussions are never good). He could be more prone to ko's now because of that damage who knows and he truly believed that GSP had grease on him, whether it was intentional or not. GSP is still the best fighter in the UFC and will prove it with a win over Alves and end this once and for all. p.s. thanks cage for posting those vids those were cool. I didn't think they would film and release that kind of stuff.
