You would think that, considering the way that their last fight ended, that Rashad Evans wouldn’t be very excited to face Lyoto Machida any time soon.
Well it looks like Rashad either has short-term memory or that he’s ready to face his fears, considering that judging by the video above, he seemed to genuinely want to fight Machida when the fight was all but a done deal. Then when “Suga” heard that Lyoto pulled out of the bout due to a “lack of Anderson Silva money” being offered to him for the fight, he really seemed to be crushed.
“No. Ohhhh… Dang. I just knew I was gonna fight Machida again…aaah. I can’t believe this, man. I can’t catch a break in this whole thing,” he complained. “When you have so many ups and downs and so may opponents coming in and out of the picture, what do you have to get up for. It’s just exhausting. It’s draining and it’s frustrating.”
Although he doesn’t seem as keen on fighting Tito, Evans did give Ortiz respect for stepping up and taking the bout, but he doesn’t give him much of a chance in the fight.
“Tito is the man. It don’t matter to me, to be honest. I’ll smash anyone who steps into the cage. That’s it. I think Tito’s going in there and thinking like, ‘I’m gonna go in there and put up a good fight, but if I don’t win, I don’t win. I’m not expected to win.’ So he’s really in a no-lose situation, so I think that’s his mentality going into this fight. He’s gonna go in there and go for broke and put some pressure on me to try to make me make a mistake. But at the same time, I don’t think he’s goin’ in there thinking he’s gonna win this fight.”
