Video: Rashad Evans REALLY Wanted to Fight Lyoto Machida at UFC 133

(Video courtesy of YouTube/HeavyMMA)

You would think that, considering the way that their last fight ended, that Rashad Evans wouldn’t be very excited to face Lyoto Machida any time soon.

Well it looks like Rashad either has short-term memory or that he’s ready to face his fears, considering that judging by the video above, he seemed to genuinely want to fight Machida when the fight was all but a done deal. Then when “Suga” heard that Lyoto pulled out of the bout due to a “lack of Anderson Silva money” being offered to him for the fight, he really seemed to be crushed.

“No. Ohhhh… Dang. I just knew I was gonna fight Machida again…aaah. I can’t believe this, man. I can’t catch a break in this whole thing,” he complained. “When you have so many ups and downs and so may opponents coming in and out of the picture, what do you have to get up for. It’s just exhausting. It’s┬ádraining and it’s frustrating.”

Although he doesn’t seem as keen on fighting Tito, Evans did give Ortiz respect for stepping up and taking the bout, but he doesn’t give him much of a chance in the fight.

“Tito is the man. It don’t matter to me, to be honest. I’ll smash anyone who steps into the cage. That’s it. I think Tito’s going in there and thinking like, ‘I’m gonna go in there and put up a good fight, but if I don’t win, I don’t win. I’m not expected to win.’ So he’s really in a no-lose situation, so I think that’s his mentality going into this fight. He’s gonna go in there and go for broke and put some pressure on me to try to make me make a mistake. But at the same time, I don’t think he’s goin’ in there thinking he’s gonna win this fight.”

Yes, the first fight was extremely close. It's arguable whether or not tito grabbing the fence saved him or cost him the fight.. but it was very close and I believe tito almost subbed him with a guillotine at the end of a round. I think this one could go either way, Rashad being a very slight favorite.

correct me if im wrong..... but didnt their last fight end in a draw??? i really dont see how odds makers, would give rashad a heavy favorite on the odds with that as well.... plus tito coming off a win, and rashad not having fought in over a year.. guys is gonna have some rust around the me the lunatic i am .. but im thinking tito is going to win.. at least i hope he does. i actually think he is still a credible opponent.

Perhaps he was excited to fight Machida on a short-notice rematch. Best chance Rashad would have...

Maybe he really did forget how their last fight ended, I mean, did you see how bad he was knocked out? I'd pay good money to see him get knocked out like that again.

So Rashad is saying that Tito isn't delusional? Isn't that like the pot calling the kettle, er, nevermind.
