Video: The Reem Episode 10 – Big in Japan

While speaking with Golden Glory founder and manager Bas Boon a couple weeks ago, I told him how much the Potato Nation was digging The Reem series and I asked him if there were any plans to profile other GG fighters like Marloes Coenen, Sergei Kharitonov or Semmy Schilt in a similar fashion. 

According to Boon, the cost of making The Reem (which is completely produced out of pocket by his company) is very high as they have had to hire a crew to follow Alistair 24-7. Although it isn’t something he says they are working on at the moment,  he says he hasn’t closed the door on the notion altogether.

This isn’t the only fan-centric initiative Golden Glory has put on.

If you recall, the Holland-based gym also streamed its Glory MMA and kickboxing event last month for free, although they could have easily charged fans to watch it. Boon told us that the reasoning behind the decision was that they simply wanted to increase the exposure of their fighters and the sport, which is why they decided to give it away.

We need more people involved in MMA who value the fans as much as Golden Glory does.

I'm lovin the Dr. Octagon and RJD2. That's the shit right there! These guys could make a documentary of Dana White taking a shit and i'd still watch as long as there's a soundtrack like this to it.

Agreed, those are actually three sets of fights I would love to see. JDS vs. Carwin for one, Overeem vs. Carwin and JDS vs. Overeem would be amazing as well. I doubt any of those 3 fights would end in a decision.

When I saw the "news" about Carwin's dumbass tweeting earlier I was really hoping it to cause some issues deep down haha. Strikeforce's heavyweight division is great, and I would really enjoy to see Carwin take a crack at Overeem and Fedor:D

I think there is a decent case for that, although I prob put JDS up there. And Carwin might not have the technique, but his striking has been dam effective - if it weren't for the Lesnar fight not being stopped, he would have put away every single opponent he has ever faced in the first round. That at least deserves a mention. Perhaps not as talented at striking as Overeem, but that is one hell of a result.

@ Dazed - I totally agree that fighting in K1 is not the equivalent to fighting bitches. But even if he does win the K1 championship, that doesn't make him the best striker in MMA. I think that needs to be rated based on actual MMA accomplishments. MMA can be very different than K1, and he would need to translate that into a lot of KO's in MMA to be the best in my mind.

Yes TP, this whole k-1 thing, with some of the most dangerous strikers in the world, totally correlates with your statement. Well done, sir.

Come Dec 11, we will get to see how much Overeem has really improved his striking. If he can win the K-1 championship, there will be no doubt in my mind he's the best striker in MMA.

So now we know who filmed the three-some with Marloes and Krista Fleming. I can't wait for that episode of The Reem! Finally an episode that will live up to it's name!!!

Great show as always, what I've learned:

Japan, such a crazy place. I'd love to go someday, it would be a total mindfuck. From what I hear there are subtle earthquakes daily that really mess with tourists minds but are totally normal for Japan.

Overeem is a super-star there, for the UFC to get him they would have to penetrate the Asian market

Those are some fine Japanese women. Usually they aren't my first pick, but damn, son.

Overeem is indeed super strong, I'd love to try out that strength/endurance test and see where I match up with some of my friends/training partners.
