Video: The Reem Episode 4 – Back Home

(Video courtesy YouTube/TheReem)

This episode of Alistair Overeem‘s web-based mini documentaries opens with the Strikeforce heavyweight champ returning home from his media tour of the U.S. following his win over Brett Rogers at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery last month. Meeting him at the airport are his teammate Marloes Coenen and his mom, Clair, who says she’s always afraid when he fights that he might get hurt, despite him being a "big boy."

Ubereem’s  training partner — recent Strikeforce signee Siyar "Afghan Killa" (insert Josh Koshcheck or Jake Shields joke hereBahadurzada makes a guest appearance in the vid, as does renowned Golden Glory coach Cor Hemmers who talks a bit about the strategy they employed for Alistair’s fight with Rogers.

Giving us his itinerary for the remainder of 2010, the English-born Dutch-raised fighter says he will fight for the DREAM heavyweight title, compete in the K-1 Grand Prix and prior to that will fight for Strikeforce one more time this year. What an underachiever.

Alistair seems like a relaxed dude who would be cool to hang out with. My opinion may change after this weekend’s MMA Expo in Toronto, depending on the reception I get from him.

I see another criticism of his movement, I don't see it to be honest, I think he looks awkward because your not used to seeing someone so massive keeping so compact, he's a kickboxer....Carwin, Lesnar etc are wrestlers..I'm not saying he could beat Lesnar or Carwin...I dont think hes been testing himself with quality opponents but I'd love to see them deal with his leg kicks

Wait, I don't get it.. is Ubereem's parents both white?

Here's my bold statement of the day: Pat Barry would beat Overroids in MMA or kickboxing.

I think Overeem is a cool guy, but I think that’s the Dutch in general. They’re all pretty laid back and easy going from my experience (I live in Europe).

He’s a good fighter and extremely strong (obviously) but I still think he always moves rather awkwardly across the cage/ring. Like he doesn’t look too natural or that he could get knocked down easily.

Fedor better beat Werdum. That is all.
ghostboner- June 8, 2010 at 10:00 pm
Oh Marloes. When will you love me? Or at least drop the restraining order and lawsuit?

P.S. Can you order a Horse Whopper at BK in the Netherlands?

My opinion of him has shifted lately as well, been watching reruns of M-1 nations challenge where he was coaching some of the Dutch guys, he came across as a pretty thorough and respected coach.
He also gets met at the airport by Marloes Coenen, and she is cute

My opinion of ubereem changed a bit after watching that vid. Some great hiphop in the back drop too.
leonard cohen- June 8, 2010 at 6:56 pm
It's cool that he is proud if his third place finish in the Pride Grand Prix. Overeem is a fighter, no doubt.

So that's the secret to his physique? Burger King and video games? I've been on that regimen for years and I look more like roy nelson. I must be playing the wrong games.

Does "The Afghan Killer" sound to anyone else like he kills Afghan(i) people rather than is one of them?
El Guapo- June 8, 2010 at 4:48 pm

"The Afghan Killer" moniker should go over well with the U.S. crowd.

We are a truly progressive and accepting group of people!
