Video: Remy Bonjasky vs. Alistair Overeem

(Round one.  Rounds two and three are after the jump.)

A monstrous-looking Alistair Overeem lost via decision to K-1′s Remy Bonjasky late last night, much to the delight of the K-1 crowd that was trying their hardest to frame this as a K-1 vs. MMA bout.  Fortunatley for Bonjasky it wasn’t.  Overeem dumped him on the mat several times and would have pounded him out easily if not for that pesky referee stepping in.

Overeem’s bulk did appear to slow him down in the final round, however, and a right hand from Bonjasky put him down and sealed his fate on the judges’ scorecards.  Sorry, Alistair.  Now come back to MMA where you belong.

(Round two.)

(Round three.)

  1. WASAAA Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:17

FIRST Also, Overeem controlled that fight from start to finish aside from the knockdown.
  2. My Fight Wiffa Cheeto Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:21

THANK YOU!!! Now get us some Melvin Manhoef action and we're set for the day. Take the rest of the weekend off after that. Also, WASAAA... You're whack. You're a fag. Die in a fire with your first.
  3. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:27

Overeem would bum-rape Alistair in MMA, and he also dominated him in K1, save for the lone knockdown. That fight should have been a draw or Overeem win. They should have gone to extension rounds at least.
  4. The Juice Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:35

He would bum-rape himself? See, I think Overeem would tear up Shane Carwin.
  5. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:38

I dont know anything about K1, but from any mans standpoint Alistair Overeem won that fight. Just goes to show, the number one rule is any kind of fighting, dont leave anything to the INCOMPETENT referees
  6. Russell Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:40

So Overeem dominates the entire fight... Dominates the 3rd round, but gets knocked down once, and he loses? I'm just glad an MMA fighter can go into k-1, and dominate the best they have to offer.
  7. krisbeattie Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:00

I think Overeem is a dick but he dominated that fight. There's no way that Remy should have won.
  8. zodiak Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:06

why would u say the out come of the fight in the first sentence under the video? dumb step ur game up
  9. B Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:09

K-1 scoring, reffing and judging is such shit. Go look at the WGP 2008 for further proof.
  10. WAR BONG Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:15

it took Bonjasky less total time to recover from his mutiple pushdowns/trips/bullshit than it did for Overeem to recover from his one.
  11. Wyatt Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:15

I think Overeem looks like a billboard for HGH.
  12. Lumberjack Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:15

The reason Overeem lost that fight is because K-1 uses an open scoring system. Which pretty much means Overeem could win the first 2 rounds but lose a decision because he got knocked down in the 3rd.
  13. Fallon Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:22

That reffing was b.s. No way it shouldnt have went to extra rounds p.s. HGH feels good on my peeen
  14. Dyph Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:43

My Fight Wiffa Cheeto Says: Sat, 03/28/2009 - 08:21 ... Now get us some Melvin Manhoef action and we're set for the day. Take the rest of the weekend off after that. ... Melvin lost, KO'd by Maeda.
  15. trey4life Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:48

I saw overeem throwing an elbow or two, and lots of throws from double underhooks which are fouls in k1. In mma striking overeem would have dominated but this is k1 so bonjasky won. Still a pretty weak win though and manhoef got knocked out in first round apparently wtf?
  16. tapIN Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:51

carwins punches are probably harder than Overeem did u see him fight Gonzaga and knocked him out with a short right hand man that guy packs in so much power not to mention hes a wrestling power house and would take him down and pound him out
  17. Imbecile Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 09:56

No way Overeem passes a drug test.
  18. ballbuster Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:01

remy, what a fn joke. k-1 is soooooooo gay, steroid boy dominates the whole fight, gets knocked down once, and he loses, whacked out, brock rocks!!!
  19. My Fight Wiffa Cheeto Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:01

Dyph Says: Sat, 03/28/2009 - 09:43 My Fight Wiffa Cheeto Says: Sat, 03/28/2009 - 08:21 ... Now get us some Melvin Manhoef action and we're set for the day. Take the rest of the weekend off after that. ... Melvin lost, KO'd by Maeda. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
  20. HillBilly Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:34

At least one of Overeem's Knockdowns in the third round was from a legitimate hard leg kick. I guess I sort of understand not giving him credit for the throws but at least that one should count shouldn't it? I mean, it is kickboxing after all. K-1 is just weird, I'll leave it at that.
  21. Massiveamounts Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:37

It looked to me that Remy was scared to pull the trigger like he does in most K-1 fights, then to showboat after the fight was over.....fucking lame, not a Remy fan any longer. AO looked like he didn't train a lick of kickboxing before the fight, he looked like he knew he could just bully him around the ring and win, and would of cept for making the mistake of ducking and leaving his chin wide open. Oh and the fucking judges for K-1 are krooked as hell, the Lebanner fight was over after the first extra round, Jerome clearly won that round and should of won the fight. The Medea fight was over after three with him clearly winning yet it went into extra rounds. I've lost much respect for K-1 also, they're more into the entertainment factor than judging the fights fairly. Also once again AO proves to be widly inconsistent, he looked nothing like the dominant force he did against Badi, that guy makes me really wonder why the fuck that is, he's got the potential to be one of the greatest yet he's as hot and cold as any fighter thats ever stepped into the ring.
  22. Massiveamounts Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:38

Yep, Hillbilly I thought that was a clean knockdown also, there was one in the second I believe that was debatable also.
  23. Harry Russo Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:47

Throws don't count in K1. It isn't judo.
  24. BJ_Stole_My_Babies_Diapers Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:49

Come on Dana, buy Overeem and put him to work. Your heavyweight division is a joke, a fake wrestler, some has beens and some unproven newbies don't cut it. Get your checkbook and buy Overeem now
  25. Bojangles Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 11:01

    so he would rape himself?
  26. portland mma Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 11:02

"Overeem would bum-rape Alistair in MMA, and he also dominated him in K1, save for the lone knockdown." Hah you are a moron
  27. MikeHawk Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 11:04

I agree, Overeem would defiently thicken up the UFC heavyweight division, and in my opinion he might even dominate it. Carwin? Lesner? give me a break. Untalented buffoons with size. Overeem has skill, plus a head the size of a bowling ball.
  28. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 11:13

    So, who's acting now, bitch?
  29. Backbaconbilly Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 11:27

Without the roids Overeen wouldn;t dominate ANY heavyweight,n just go back and take a look at some of his fights from a few years back before he was on the juice. Hell, Liddell beat the shit outta him for christ sakes. Kongo, Lesner, Carwin would rip him a new one and let you chew on the old one,lol
  30. Fuckanosama Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 12:08

What backonbilly said. I've been watching Overeem for years and he was strictly mid-grade till his astonishingly sudden, face-bloating growth spurt. And k-1 scoring is all about clean blows landed and knock-downs, throws and pushes don't count (not to say the refs are good though).
  31. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 12:15

K1 is retarded if you can lose the entire fight, but win with one punch. Overeem should stay out of K1, because he would have dominated this guy in MMA easily within the first round.
  32. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 01:12

that fight was fuckin weak. Most boring shit ever. Alistar is definitely suffering from all the weight he has put on. he moves slower than bob sapp and has the snap of a two year old on his punches. Drop the body builder physic bud...its only hurting you
  33. Cas Seen Know Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 02:59

What the hell's wrong with Overeem? When he had the chance to unleash some combos as Remy was cowering/in block position, Overeem didn't do shit. What the f--k? Maybe he was tired as fu'' I guess???? Also, Overeem has no chin and therefore wouldn't last a round with Lesnar or even Carwin.

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 04:06

  35. WalksInTheDarkness Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 05:36

That is probably some of the most one sided commentary that I've ever heard. I know it's probably what Overeem deserves after calling out Remy but they didn't seem to have a single word of praise for Alistair yet started screaming when Bonjasky managed to knock him down. Very disappointed by the commentary. And one final question... where has all of that extra size come from on Overeem? He's huge!
  36. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 06:57

that was a horrible fight looked like sparing from kids
  37. Jubbie Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 08:47

I'm not a fan of Remy. I always thought he faked that crap in the Hari fight even if Hari's reaction was ridiculous. If AO does come to the UFC, I have a feeling it's gonna continue the trend of fighters from the Japanese fight leagues losing their luster in the UFC for whatever reason. I think he's a beast but he'd be exposed in his conditioning or just get caught for juicing. Although if Brock can get away with it, I guess AO can too.
  38. MTopola Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:16

"I have a feeling it's gonna continue the trend of fighters from the Japanese fight leagues losing their luster in the UFC for whatever reason." The reason is that the UFC and all American MMA organizations test for roids and hgh.. overeem is on something.. and to those who say overeem won.. its not a 10-9 must system, so the first rounds were draws.. it makes sense
  39. B Says:

    Sat, 03/28/09 - 10:39

The fact that its not is stupid though. I hear a lot of judges score it a draw for the first two so they can make a decision at the end. Also draws are BS. There is no such thing as a completely even round even if its within a ball hair.
  40. Anonymous Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 01:44

And a fucking pro wrestler Brock Lesnar dominated biggest mma star along Chuck Liddell in US, Randy Couture. So pro wrestling>mma. I won't watch that shitty UFC anymore, pro wrestler would kill them all. See a point?
  41. rokabee Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 01:47

Overeem looked stiff, I'm not impressed with his striking.
  42. LAS Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 10:54

People need to quit crying about the decision. If the reffing was shit, Overeem was reaping the benefits of that by tossing Bonjasky to the canvas numerous times, catching kicks, and barely even getting warned for it. The same people who thought that Overeem should have won despite the knockdown probably agreed with the judge who scored the first round for Forrest in his fight with Rampage. If you score a knockdown and your opponent doesn't you win the round.
  43. Anonymous Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 03:34

what was remy's entrance song called?
  44. Zombie Rock Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 04:58

Fucking steroids man. Overeem went from being a lean, tactical, albeit spastic kickboxer to a lumbering, mindless automaton. Man, where can I get some of that shit?
  45. Marcer Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 05:36

I wonder, did K-1 really "defend its honor" against MMA? Remy won, but not appealingly, and that entire event was filled with shitty fights and completely incapable judging. I watch all K-1's shit and their MAX shows can be great, but wow, this one was bad.
  46. Kintama Chikara Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 07:47

read on MMAweekly that Bonjasky had an injured knee.... torn meniscus. Bonjasky apologized for his poor performance and said his knee injury was the reason for his slow movement and no high flying antics.
  47. Anonymous Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 10:48

Do you really believe that though? I think he's trying to save face for K-1's sake.
  48. Anonymous Says:

  49. Crittino Says:

    Sun, 03/29/09 - 11:33

Barry bonds' head looks like a marble compared to overeem's.
  50. Twoguns Says:

    Mon, 03/30/09 - 02:39

Keep in mind that this was a K1-fight in Japan... reffing is always dodgy. It should have been a draw with extension round. The song Bonjasky comes out to, is called "Man without a gun"
  51. Craig Says:

    Mon, 03/30/09 - 07:24

Ok - The Overeem / Bonjansjy fight was a pretty crap fight. Remy was tentative and ineffective - looked intimidated and thrown off by Alistair. Alistair was slow, especially as the fight progressed. All considered not a great match. You can not like K-1, but try to distinguish between not liking the rules and thinking it's crap because it's not mma. Overeem won't fight in the UFC or North America because he won't pass the drug tests. He's added 20kg since the last time he fought in K-1. He's a big boy. Yeah the commentary - they were very pro Remy - they are overcompensating - you see it in the Aerts fight too ... cheering on the old school fighter. Painful watching Aerts. Time to wrap it up my friend. Manhoef - wow didn't expect that to go down that way. Not sure if it was a straight punch but it caught him coming in and there was no doubt he was done. Maeda ... really. Definitely stepped up.

  53. 12345 Says:

    Thu, 04/02/09 - 07:40

What fight did you guys watch? Overeem landed virtually nothing the entire fight. He didn't dominate anything. The knockdown sealed the victory for Bonjasky and rightly so.
