Video: Remy Bonjasky vs. Alistair Overeem

(Round one.  Rounds two and three are after the jump.)

A monstrous-looking Alistair Overeem lost via decision to K-1′s Remy Bonjasky late last night, much to the delight of the K-1 crowd that was trying their hardest to frame this as a K-1 vs. MMA bout.  Fortunatley for Bonjasky it wasn’t.  Overeem dumped him on the mat several times and would have pounded him out easily if not for that pesky referee stepping in.

Overeem’s bulk did appear to slow him down in the final round, however, and a right hand from Bonjasky put him down and sealed his fate on the judges’ scorecards.  Sorry, Alistair.  Now come back to MMA where you belong.

(Round two.)

(Round three.)

remy's entrance song was.... Ennio Morricone - The Man With A Harmonica

What fight did you guys watch? Overeem landed virtually nothing the entire fight. He didn't dominate anything. The knockdown sealed the victory for Bonjasky and rightly so.

That true,Alistair Overeem is on steroids or some other drug for sure,he become big as f**k in short time,he's on something for sure.Be real

Ok - The Overeem / Bonjansjy fight was a pretty crap fight. Remy was tentative and ineffective - looked intimidated and thrown off by Alistair. Alistair was slow, especially as the fight progressed. All considered not a great match.

You can not like K-1, but try to distinguish between not liking the rules and thinking it's crap because it's not mma.

Overeem won't fight in the UFC or North America because he won't pass the drug tests. He's added 20kg since the last time he fought in K-1. He's a big boy.

Yeah the commentary - they were very pro Remy - they are overcompensating - you see it in the Aerts fight too ... cheering on the old school fighter. Painful watching Aerts. Time to wrap it up my friend.

Manhoef - wow didn't expect that to go down that way. Not sure if it was a straight punch but it caught him coming in and there was no doubt he was done. Maeda ... really. Definitely stepped up.

Keep in mind that this was a K1-fight in Japan... reffing is always dodgy. It should have been a draw with extension round. The song Bonjasky comes out to, is called "Man without a gun"

Barry bonds' head looks like a marble compared to overeem's.

Do you really believe that though? I think he's trying to save face for K-1's sake.

read on MMAweekly that Bonjasky had an injured knee.... torn meniscus. Bonjasky apologized for his poor performance and said his knee injury was the reason for his slow movement and no high flying antics.

I wonder, did K-1 really "defend its honor" against MMA? Remy won, but not appealingly, and that entire event was filled with shitty fights and completely incapable judging. I watch all K-1's shit and their MAX shows can be great, but wow, this one was bad.

Fucking steroids man. Overeem went from being a lean, tactical, albeit spastic kickboxer to a lumbering, mindless automaton. Man, where can I get some of that shit?

what was remy's entrance song called?

People need to quit crying about the decision. If the reffing was shit, Overeem was reaping the benefits of that by tossing Bonjasky to the canvas numerous times, catching kicks, and barely even getting warned for it.

The same people who thought that Overeem should have won despite the knockdown probably agreed with the judge who scored the first round for Forrest in his fight with Rampage. If you score a knockdown and your opponent doesn't you win the round.

Overeem looked stiff, I'm not impressed with his striking.

And a fucking pro wrestler Brock Lesnar dominated biggest mma star along Chuck Liddell in US, Randy Couture. So pro wrestling>mma. I won't watch that shitty UFC anymore, pro wrestler would kill them all.

See a point?

The fact that its not is stupid though. I hear a lot of judges score it a draw for the first two so they can make a decision at the end. Also draws are BS. There is no such thing as a completely even round even if its within a ball hair.

"I have a feeling it's gonna continue the trend of fighters from the Japanese fight leagues losing their luster in the UFC for whatever reason."

The reason is that the UFC and all American MMA organizations test for roids and hgh.. overeem is on something..

and to those who say overeem won.. its not a 10-9 must system, so the first rounds were draws.. it makes sense

I'm not a fan of Remy. I always thought he faked that crap in the Hari fight even if Hari's reaction was ridiculous. If AO does come to the UFC, I have a feeling it's gonna continue the trend of fighters from the Japanese fight leagues losing their luster in the UFC for whatever reason. I think he's a beast but he'd be exposed in his conditioning or just get caught for juicing. Although if Brock can get away with it, I guess AO can too.

that was a horrible fight looked like sparing from kids
WalksInTheDarkness- March 28, 2009 at 5:36 pm
That is probably some of the most one sided commentary that I've ever heard. I know it's probably what Overeem deserves after calling out Remy but they didn't seem to have a single word of praise for Alistair yet started screaming when Bonjasky managed to knock him down. Very disappointed by the commentary.

And one final question... where has all of that extra size come from on Overeem? He's huge!

What the hell's wrong with Overeem? When he had the chance to unleash some combos as Remy was cowering/in block position, Overeem didn't do shit. What the f--k? Maybe he was tired as fu'' I guess????

Also, Overeem has no chin and therefore wouldn't last a round with Lesnar or even Carwin.

that fight was fuckin weak. Most boring shit ever. Alistar is definitely suffering from all the weight he has put on. he moves slower than bob sapp and has the snap of a two year old on his punches. Drop the body builder physic bud...its only hurting you
Anonymous- March 28, 2009 at 12:15 pm
K1 is retarded if you can lose the entire fight, but win with one punch. Overeem should stay out of K1, because he would have dominated this guy in MMA easily within the first round.
Fuckanosama- March 28, 2009 at 12:08 pm
What backonbilly said. I've been watching Overeem for years and he was strictly mid-grade till his astonishingly sudden, face-bloating growth spurt.

And k-1 scoring is all about clean blows landed and knock-downs, throws and pushes don't count (not to say the refs are good though).
